If you’ve been waiting for VBT’s new 2023 destinations and tour dates, the wait is over. VBT’s brand new tours are open for booking—and space is going fast. Our experienced trip designers have their fingers on the pulse of active travel trends—so they know how to select up-and-coming destinations that will be all the rage in the coming season. We bring you 2023’s top highlights—in their own words.
New! California: Death Valley National Park Self-Guided Tour
Cycle Death Valley and marvel at landscapes teeming with life. “When most people think of Death Valley,” says VBT Trip Designer Chris Skilling, “they imagine scorching heat and inhospitable landscapes.” But in the cooler months, this storied region in the Mojave Desert becomes one of most magnificent bicycling spots on the planet. Far from a barren desert, it’s home to some of the largest salt pans in the world, undulating coffee-colored dunes and rust-hued badlands, spectacular canyon outcroppings, distant snow-frosted peaks, and the famed Joshua Tree. To say nothing of the super-bloom season, when the desert floor becomes carpeted with a riot of vibrant, colorful flowers. “It’s an otherworldly place,” Chris continues. “And it’s a wonderful way to escape the chill of winter and have an unforgettable biking experience in the sunshine.”
New! Spain: Balearic Islands, Mallorca & Ses Salines Guided Tour
Discover the secrets of paella—and stellar wines—from a Mallorcan chef. Mallorca is graced with soaring limestone mountains skirted with emerald forests and glistening blue waters kissing crescent beaches. Between your magnificently scenic rides, you’ll pause at one of the Mediterranean island’s oldest vineyards, a scenic finca run by a local family. Their source of pride? Well, the wine, of course! But another indulgence waits in their kitchen: a lesson in preparing paella. “The dish is Spanish through and through,” says Trip Designer Andrea Chlebova. “Its origins are humble, a farmer’s meal cooked over a wood fire with rice from the fields and whatever else was at hand—tomatoes, onions, snails, duck.” You’ll learn to prepare “paella mar y muntanya,” or “sea and mountain” for the seafood and meat it contains.
New! Italy: The Dolomites, Bolzano to Ora Self-Guided Tour
An invigorating and scenic spin down a magnificent Dolomite mountainside. “When in the Dolomites, every rider must cycle over the Pordoi Pass, where famed Italian cyclist Fausto Coppi made a name for himself in the 1940s and 50s,” says Trip Designer Katia Torre. “It’s required!” The second-highest surfaced road in the famed mountain region—peaking at 7,346 feet— is also one of the most stunning byways in the world. Maybe that’s why some 9,000 riders converge here each year to race in the Maratona dles Dolomites, traversing seven passes in a single day. “But don’t worry,” Katia continues. “We shuttle you to the top of the pass, so you’re free to coast down these wonderful dramatic hillsides into a charming storybook village, where lots of traditional delicious lunch options await.”
New! Massachusetts: Cape Cod & Provincetown Guided Tour
We’ve reimagined our classic Cape Cod spin to give you a closer view. How do you update a longtime VBT favorite? “We’re leading guests deeper into areas of natural beauty and arranging more authentic experiences,” says Trip Designer Phoebe Kittredge. “That means, in addition to the Cape’s famous bike path, we will explore the hidden, quiet back roads within the Cape Cod National Seashore.” Expansive woodlands and coastal beaches lead you north from the Lower Cape all the way to the tip. Along the way, a guided boat tour delivers you to the harbor-seal colony. You’ll sample oysters freshly plucked from the sea. And you’ll visit Provincetown, the freewheeling and charming enclave at Land’s End.
