Spain

Scenery, riding history, art, food - it has it all

This was one of the best VBT tours we have taken. Food, riding, scenery, exploration of the art of Dali, wonderful guides and fantastic accommodations. Pre-trip in Barcelona is a must do to see the Gaudi architecture and Picasso museum as well as experience Catalonia at its best.

VBT Continues to Deliver

It starts with the guides and they deliver on a continuous basis. Andrea and Javier (Javi) are excellent at delivering the experience promised by VBT and go above and beyond to make it all work and make sure you are happy. There are always glitches along the way, mostly created by the guests. They work tirelessly and effectively to solve every problem. Like all the other trips (we have done many). It's so much more than the wonderful biking. The farm visit to the apple orchard is amazing. Who knew so much science and technology are needed to be successful in this day and age. They explained why more than 150 apples stresses the trees and produce inferior apples. They showed us the technology they use to eliminate excess blooms. The resultant apples, juices and ciders are wonderful. The enjoyment of our visit to the Dali museum was magnified many times over by the enthusiasm and knowledge of Kim, our guide. I had no idea how many elements were in each Dali painting and how his mind worked.

What a Great Tour!

We thoroughly enjoyed our first VBT experience. The tour route was very well laid out and we cannot not say enough about how impressive our tour leaders, David and Frederico, both of whom are natives of Portugal. Kudos to VBT for the way they planned and conducted our tour!

Perfect in nearly every way

We were a group of 8 (most of whom knew each other) which was a perfect size. The biggest problem was that when we tried to leave Barcelona for Girona, the train track was under construction and therefore no train could get to Girona. It meant two subway changes to get to another train station and ultimately to Girona. It happened to be my 73rd birthday, and included way too much schlepping of luggage up and down multiple staircases etc, we all were grumpy, but finally reached our destination. Wish VBT could have forewarned us of that We had only one mechanical support need, but other wise all the bikes were great. And for the hill out of Girona the eBikes were much appreciated. We loved the places to stay, but one thing to suggest is that we back-tracked on the route which seemed like you were just trying to add to the mileage for a day --- can't remember where that was, but perhaps another option is possible. My husband and I did the extra ride out of LaFranc and thank god for the eBike because it was VERY steep but so worth it. THanks for the suggestion. We loved the trip

Costa Brava Self Guided Adventure

We just returned from a wonderful self guided trip through Costa Brava. The hotels were perfect, great locations for exploring and wonderful amenities. The routes led us through beautiful countryside, panoramic views and charming medieval villages. Only suggestion would be to search for additional routes as we road the same road section 3x!!!! A few routes were a little nerve racking with high speed traffic, but VBT kept those sections short and we were well warned with the Ride with GPS app. The app with voice directions was very easy to follow. Overall this was a great trip filled with fun memories.

One great trip!

Of the 10 trips we have taken with VBT, Mallorca is one of our favorites. The guides were fun to be with, the accommodations were a cut above, and the scenery is spectacular. The trip is rated easy/moderate which is accurate, given the climbs that are on some of the main routes. One afternoon option was especially difficult on a road bike, but the remainder of the days can certainly be done without e-assistance. The Palma pre-trip is interesting and the offered guided walk is worth the fee. We didn't opt for the post-trip in Barcelona since we had been there on a prior VBT trip. This trip is definitely one to consider.

Mallorca on hybrid bike was just perfect for us.

This was our third VBT trip. We were able to get great exercise on hybrid bikes while seeing beautiful sites in the countryside. We liked the increased miles, we did all plus and independent rides except for the BIG independent one (25 additional miles with big climb in the heat of the late afternoon). We were the second to last trip of the spring season and traffic was definitely an issue. Husband liked the Salt Flats tour the best and I liked swimming in the sea in two different locations. Also loved the swimming pools and bars at the 1st and 3rd hotels (but our rooms were just ok) after our days on the bike. We had time in the mornings to walk and see the towns we stayed in. Our guides, Bibi and Carolina were excellent! We were glad to tour Barcelona on our own prior to the start of the bike trip.

On the Douro

Very enjoyable trip. Guides were excellent. The meals on the River Boat were also excellent. Would highly recommend this trip.

Portugal & Spain Bike & River Cruise: Douro Valley

Perfect combination of biking and boating.

This trip was the perfect combination of biking and cruising. The Emerald Radiance was a top-notch level Riverboat with a crew that felt like family by the end of the trip. The rooms were small but had every important amenity. In the evening were entertained by local dancers and singers that were an excellent representation of the local culture. This trip should be on everyone’s list.

This tour has incredible scenery and enriching cultural attractions.

We visited Andalucia Spain with VBT in Nov. 2012. This was our 24th bicycling trip with VBT and was our best trip yet! Andalucia is more scenic than we ever imagined and the bicycling along rural roads and trails is the best way to experience this area. The longer cycling routes offered each day were through rolling hills with sweeping vistas overlooking olive orchards as far as the eye could see and small white-housed villages nestled in the hill-sides. Andalucia offers many cultural and historic attractions in Seville, Cordoba and Granada that make this a very enriching and rewarding trip.

Spain: Landscapes from the Camino de Santiago

The Country Walkers Landscapes from the Camino de Santiago trip was outstanding. Country Walker guides Diego Del Barrio and Pol Roig Iniesta were extremely knowledgeable, organized, and capable leaders. On scale of 1 to 10, I rate both guides a 10. The various hikes and village tours were very interesting and completed as scheduled. The hotel or parador accommodations were all outstanding. Food was plentiful and exceptionally good.
