Itinerary & Map
Or, Expand All Days
DAY 1: Depart U.S. / Fly overnight to Split

Depart the U.S. for Croatia. The particulars of your arrival overseas are detailed with your flight itinerary and airline tickets.

DAY 2: Arrive in Split, Croatia / Transfer to Trogir

Upon arrival at the Split airport, claim your luggage and clear customs. Our local representative, who will be holding a VBT sign, meets you outside the customs area in your arrival terminal. Your minibus transfer (approximately 30 minutes) is provided by the Hotel Palace Trogir.

At the hotel, check in and spend the remainder of the day exploring Trogir. If you arrive early, your hotel room may not be available until 2:00 pm. You can store your luggage at the reception desk.

On a tiny island behind medieval walls lies the Old Town of Trogir—just steps away from your hotel. Its streets form an intriguing maze and Romanesque and Renaissance edifices wait around every corner. Masterful architecture and a magnificent cathedral have earned Trogir a place as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Outside the walls of the Old Town, you can stroll the seaside promenade, lined with cafes and luxurious yachts in the summer.

VBT provides you with City Information in your Final Travel Booklet that includes recommendations on what to see and do in Trogir during your stay.

DAY 3: Meet Trip Leaders / Transfer from Trogir to the Island of Brac / Warm-up ride / Welcome reception

VBT No-Air Package guests: Your VBT Trip Leaders and the rest of the group meet you at the Hotel Trogir Palace in Trogir at 9:00 am (Address: Put Gradine 8, 21 220 Trogir, Croatia; telephone: +385 (0) 21 685 555). If you are scheduled to arrive at the Hotel Trogir Palace later than 9:00 am or if you are delayed, you must take a taxi, a ferry, and then another taxi at your own expense.

In the event of a late arrival you will need to travel on your own to Hotel Pastura in Postira on the island of Brac (approximate cost is 30 euros/$39 USD, travel time approximately 2 hours). Please contact Hotel Pastura (Telephone: +385 (0) 21 740 000) to advise the staff of any travel delays or changes, and they will alert your VBT Trip Leaders.

VBT Air Package and Pre-Trip Extension guests: Meet your VBT Trip Leaders at 9:00 am. They will be wearing VBT staff garments. Please have your bags out for collection before 8:00 am so they may be transferred to the ferry ahead of the group. The group will leave the hotel at 9:30 am for the 45-minute drive to the Split pier for your ferry, which sails at 11:00 am to the port of Supetar on the island of Brac.

Across from the ferry terminal in Split, you may purchase something to eat from one of several small restaurants or grocery stores to bring along during the one-hour journey to Brac.

On arrival at the port of Supetar, minivans transfer our group to the village of Postira and the Hotel Pastura, your home for the next three nights. This welcoming, 4-star hotel's location is convenient and quiet and features comfortable, air-conditioned rooms with balconies.

A charming and quiet village now, Postira dates to the 14th century. Located five miles from Supetar, Postira is nestled between ocean and hill, embraced by centuries-old olive fields and pine groves. One of this town's most famous sites is the remains of a basilica in Lovrecina, a bay with a very beautiful sandy beach.

In the afternoon, join our Trip Leaders for a safety and bike-fitting session, followed by a short warm-up ride along Postira's harbor and a loop to the picturesque village of Dol. In the early evening, we walk to a nearby typical village restaurant for a welcome cocktail reception on the quaint terrace, followed by a traditional Brac Island dinner. Later, return to the hotel and fall asleep to the lapping sounds of waves outside your room.

DAY 4: Cycle from Postira to Pucisca and Skrip / Visit stonecutters' school / Home-hosted dinner

We start our ride to Postira, following a quieter road along the scenic north coast and passing through simple villages bordered by fig and olive trees. You'll enjoy views of the mainland throughout our ride. Stop in the port town of Pucisca and visit the stonecutters' school here. Brac's world-renowned stone has been used in the construction of some the world's most famous buildings, including Diocletian's Palace in Split and the White House in Washington, D.C. This is a unique opportunity to see students' work and learn about a near-forgotten craft at one of the world's few remaining stonecutting schools.

After lunch on your own, you may choose to shuttle back to the hotel or cycle back to Postira. Today's longer option is to continue past Postira to Skrip, then return to Postira. Skrip is the oldest settlement on the island and the source of the stone we learned about earlier. Upon returning to the hotel, use your free time to relax or walk to the beach.

Just prior to dinner, your Trip Leaders give us an introduction to the Croatian language. Use your newfound skills tonight as you share a simple but authentic Croatian dinner in a local home. We always enjoy connecting with our hosts during this event, and it gives us a chance to witness daily life on this breathtaking island.

DAY 5: Shuttle to Vidova Gora, the Summit of the Adriatic / Ride through rural villages / Visit Milna, the Bay of a Thousand Ships

After breakfast, we shuttle to the highest point on the island, Vidova Gora. This lookout, known as the summit of the Adriatic, affords some breathtaking views. From here, enjoy more great scenery as we coast through the villages of Nerezisca and Lozisca.

From Lozisca, we ride a nine-mile loop down to the port of Milna, the most beautiful marina on the island. We stop here and relax for an included lunch at a local restaurant. Afterward, we continue toward the port town of Sutivan and then along the coast back to our hotel in Postira via Supetar.

Tonight, you may explore the typical Croatian restaurants in town. Your Trip Leaders can make recommendations.

DAY 6: Bike to Bol and Zlatni Rat Beach / Boat ride / Explore Hvar town and fortress

This morning, we say goodbye to our hosts and transfer by coach across the top of the island to the base of Vidova Gora. From here, we ride through easy terrain and the ancient medieval settlements of Praznica and Gornji Humac—real examples of how the island's towns and villages developed from separate homes, usually shepherds' houses.

Enjoy breathtaking views during our downhill roll to the beach of Zlatni Rat (meaning “Golden Horn”), the most famous beach in all of Croatia. This spit of land reaches out into the water with a gently sloping beach. Here, you can swim in the Adriatic's crystal-clear water before lunch on your own in the adjacent town of Bol.

Just after lunch, embark a private boat to Jelsa on the island of Hvar. Then, we shuttle to our hotel in Hvar town. (In the event of inclement weather, this transfer operates as noted below.)

Nearly 42 miles (67.5 km) long and seven miles (11 km) wide, and only three miles (5 km) at its narrowest point, Hvar is the most famous and seductive Adriatic island. Along with Bali, Zanzibar, Mykonos and Capri, Hvar has been called “one of the most beautiful islands in the world” by Condé Nast Traveler magazine. Its permanent population of 12,000 people clusters on the west of the island, adjacent to the most fertile and protected land.

Your hotel's central location affords the perfect vantage point to explore Hvar town, a medieval Croatian town with a strong Venetian influence dating to the 16th century. Visit the Arsenal, built in 1612 as the first municipal theater—Europe's oldest and perhaps smallest. Its purpose was to bring the aristocratic and bourgeois classes together, and it stands as a symbol of reconciliation between social classes and of the abolition of privilege. Women were not admitted until the second half of the 19th century. Take in the expanse of Saint Stephen's Square, the largest square of the Adriatic after Saint Mark's in Venice.

Tonight, walk to a nearby home for a delicious dinner. Our hosts will teach us how to prepare some of the best local dishes during a group cooking lesson. Dalmatia is known for its Prosek (sweet wine) and Plavac (local red wine); taste both over a festive dinner this evening.

Inclement Weather Itinerary:

If rough weather makes it impossible for our small chartered ferry to operate, guests travel between Brac and Hvar on the large car ferries that operate via Split. This creates a longer travel day. The two ferry rides are separated by a two-hour visit to Split, where you take a discovery walk and enjoy lunch on your own. Inclement weather may make the promoted activities impossible.

DAY 7: Ride Hvar's dramatic wilderness / Explore Stari Grad

After a leisurely breakfast, we ride past fields of poppies, rosemary and lavender. The ride starts with a steady climb of about four miles (6.5 km) to the village of Brusje and rewards you with a sparsely inhabited and dramatic landscape crisscrossed by a seemingly endless number of stone walls. Views stretch across the sea to neighboring islands and the mainland. If you prefer, start the ride in Brusje and pedal to Stari Grad, finishing with a four-mile (6.5 km) downhill coast into this authentic Dalmatian town situated at the end of a narrow bay. Originally founded in the fourth century BC, the town's main square offers a number of options for lunch on your own.

For a greater challenge, continue past Stari Grad on one of two long-ride options. After lunch, you can continue biking to a pass near Jelsa and climb toward Poljica into an even more remote environment, finishing with a two-mile (three km) downhill ride to Velika Stiniva (“Big Cliff”). Enjoy a swim, and later board our VBT van for the shuttle back to our hotel.

Back at the hotel spend the afternoon exploring more of Hvar town or swimming at a neighboring beach. Dinner is on your own.

DAY 8: Ride through lavender fields / Explore Vrboska harbor

Today's ride, certain to be a highlight of your trip, is relatively flat. It carries us through verdant fields and quiet stone villages and alongside the narrow harbor between Vrboska and Jelsa.

Our first destination is Vrboska, an adorable harbor famous for its fortified church. Unique in Croatia, the structure resulted from a strange but urgent need for both the church and the secular citizenry to fortify their village from invaders. From here, we skirt a fjord on a flat and scenic road, perhaps stopping at a small cove for a cooling dip (don't forget your swimsuit!). We end the morning with a picnic in the old fishing port of Jelsa, where we see the well-maintained houses of local ship captains. Enjoy a refreshing dip here.

Then, we ride through the mountain village of Pitve. With its traditional stone houses, konobas, or taverns, and terrace gardens, Pitve epitomizes the island towns of Croatia. We shuttle back to the hotel from Stari Grad in the late afternoon, or opt for a longer ride that brings us back through Brusje to Hvar.

Tonight, enjoy a farewell dinner on the terrace of our hotel, overlooking Hvar Harbor.

DAY 9: Transfer to Split / Free time / VBT No-Air Package ends

VBT No-Air Package guests: After breakfast, transfer back to the port of Split, arriving at approximately 1:15 pm. Important: Flight departures from Split airport prior to 4:00 pm are not recommended. If you depart earlier, you must make transfer arrangements from the last hotel at your own expense. Taxi cost from Split harbor to Split airport is approximately 300 Croatian Kuna /$60 USD; travel time is about 40 minutes.

VBT Air Package and Post Trip Extension guests: Transfer after breakfast by ferry and van to the Hotel Atrium in Split for your final overnight stay (travel time is approximately three hours). Arrive around 2:00 pm and spend the rest of the day shopping or relaxing in one of the city's outdoor cafes. VBT provides you with City Information in your Final Travel Booklet that includes recommendations on what to see and do in Split during your stay.

DAY 10: Depart for U.S. or begin your optional extension in Split

Please ensure that you are ready in the hotel reception area at the designated time. VBT recommends you check the time of your transfer with your Trip Leaders during the week. The transfer is prearranged and prepaid.

Note: For guests with early-morning departures, breakfast at the hotel may not be available. Please check with the front desk to verify the times that breakfast is served.

VBT transfer times and departure points are finalized in advance and cannot be modified for individual guests. If you extend your stay beyond the scheduled program dates, return transportation to the airport will be at your own expense.

The Croatia tour lead by Lada and Marco was incredible, the best trip of my life. The combination of biking through beautiful country sides, ocean coastline, incredible accommodations at hotels, exposure to Croatian culture lead by fantastic guides, and a great group of fellow cyclists made our trip amazing! Every moment of this trip was filled with delight and wonder. As we rode our bikes through the beautiful islands, winding our way through groves of olives trees, listening to the gentle bleats of grazing sheep, or pedaling along old Roman roads, we were privileged to experience the countryside as an uncommon tourist. The crystal waters of the Adriatic sea beckoned us at every turn. Our local guides made all the difference as they facilitated dinners at local homes and tours of businesses, allowing us to go below the surface of a typical tour. We fell in love with the Dalmatian Islands during this perfect vacation of bike riding, sight seeing, relaxing, exploring, dining, history, culture and more.

  • Great trip; exceeded expectations; great biking, beautiful country

This was our first VBT trip and it didn't disappoint. Great and challenging biking, with bike-level options, gorgeous country, at every turn; trip was very well-organized and super trip leaders. Our group of 7 from ages 17-58 loved this at al levels. The others in the group were quite friendly and everyone meshed well. The accommodations were nice, food and beer good and we enjoyed a number of dips in the sea, which surrounds you pretty much all of the time. Dubrovnik should NOT be missed, whether as pre-trip or on your own (the pre-trip package was good and the Dubrovnik hotel really great).

  • one of our favorite trips ever!

This is one of the best trips we've ever experienced. We knew very little about Croatia before our trip, and found it to be an amazing country, with so much fascinating history, incredible scenery and friendly people. It helped that most everyone speaks English, as the Croatian language is a bit challenging. The biking was outstanding, as was swimming in the crystal clear waters of the Adriatic sea, and the food excellent. Our trip leaders (Lada and Matej) were very knowledgeable about the locale and history, extremely helpful in every way, and went way beyond our expectations in making the trip for all of us a great experience. They even arranged a sailing option on the last day to get us back to the mainland, which added an adventure we hadn't planned on. An additional pleasant aspect for us was the opportunity to hear many different varieties of excellent music, from jazz to traditional Croatian folk music to classical, performed by superb musicians in the most wonderful settings. We very much enjoyed getting to know our fellow travelers. We found them to be an adventurous group, and enjoyed sharing experiences with them and left having made many new friends. We also did the pre trip visit to Dubrovnik and the post trip to Split, and were happy we did. One month later we are still reveling in the experience, and consider this a trip of a lifetime for us.

  • Croatia's Dalmatian Islands are hidden cycling jewels

If you want farm to table at night , quiet roads surrounded by the turquoise blue Adriatic waters with ancient Greek and Roman antiquities this is the trip for you. The local cars are used to cyclists and are polite which is relaxing. This trip has it all including a little sailing . Small villages and ports make wonderful walking at night after dinner and before bed time in sometimes quaint castles with the most modern necessities. The guides never blinked at our strange requests and fulfilled them in a moment. Their attitude is "This is your trip and we are here to make it the best for you" If you want to have a unique cycling experience go to the Dalmatian Islands with VBT

Some hills make this a "moderate" rating but it is worth the challenge. Directions are really easy to follow, making it a great pick for first-timers who are comfortable on a bike. The guides we had could not have been better. Cheerful, full of information, and a willlingness to go beyond what was expected. Probably the best overall trip of the six we have taken with VBT.

  • Beautiful Croatia and it's People

First bicycle tour with VBT, we were very impressed with all the logistics, routes, accommodations and the guides! Lada and Matej were excellent, extremely knowledgable about their country and proud to share all the history. We learned so much about Croatia, there's no better way to see a country then by bicycle and VBT did a fabulous job! We rented a Sail boat and sailed around The Dalmatian Islands for another week and Lada continued to assist us throughout our sailing trip. She helped with land transportation, arranged dinner at Roki's on beautiful Vis, it seemed everyone knows and loves Lada! Thank you Lada and Matej we will never forget you and your amazing country. Now trying to figure out where VBT will take us next?!?!

We’ve taken bike trips with other companies, but VBT beats them on value, on logistics and friendliness. Our guides, Lada and Marko combined knowledge of Croatia and biking expertise with warmth and humor. I felt like I’d met long-lost cousins who were intent on providing a fabulous holiday in their country. They encouraged us on the uphills, pointed out fascinating sites as we pedaled by, and were happy to take pictures of us enjoying the phenomenal scenery. (no need for selfies!) What exceeded expectations were the well planned (and low traffic) routes, the impeccable logistics, and bikes that had no flat tires all week! We rode, we laughed, we ate well and slept at great hotels. The only negative was saying goodbye. At least I have lots and lots of photos. Thank you Lada and Marko….and VBT.

Dubrovnik is truly the jewel of the Adriatic and the Dalmatian Islands a beautiful area to bike and take in the culture. Surrounded by the sea, the countryside is breathtaking and the routes through ports and villages are marvelous. You’ll smell the scent of pine as you bike roads virtually free of traffic, taste the finest olive oil and take in what the local konobas have to offer. Quality accommodations, delicious meals, friendly villagers and great company!

Breathtaking views everywhere you look, combined with fascinating old cities and towns and warm, friendly people. Cycling doesn't get much better than this. Very little traffic on the roads. Great leaders who love their country and strive to share that love with their guests.

  • Beautiful country, awesome guides- loved it and would do it again

VBT did it again! 18 women joined together to bike in Croatia with two outstanding guides, Lada and Neven. We loved the hills and challenges and looked forward to our daily dip in the Adriatic sea. During our after trip, we rented a driver to take us to the National park where we saw beautiful terrain and lots of waterfalls. We then rented a sailboat complete with a woman skipper and sailed and swam and had food and wine and watched the sunset. An amazing trip! Our flights were perfect which was improved from our trip the previous year to New Zealand. That was very important to us. A job well done

The leaders were great. I would have liked more of the cultural sites and attractions scheduled into the tour stops. Most of the tour was biking with no added local tours as in the past VBT trips we have taken. The trip was rated mild to moderate. Relative to past tours we have taken with VBT this should have been rated moderate to difficult.

Spectacular trip! Excellent trip leaders lent so much to the whole experience (thanks, Marko & Lada)! Wonderful travel group! Superb food (be sure to try the octopus, Peka-style), wine, brandy! The extra adventures added immensely to the trip! Oh, and the bicycling was very gratifying with hills (up AND down!) and great routes! Accommodations were excellent - wish we had more time in each place! We highly recommend the pre-trip to Dubrovnik, but next time would skip the disappointing post-trip in Split. One day would have been enough. Overall, we would do this trip again without hesitation! Will not disappoint.

  • A trip of a lifetime!

My best friend, Diana, insisted that we book a trip through Vermont Bike Tours as she and her husband had enjoyed past trips with this company. I was skeptical as I have always thought tour groups were too restrictive and I dreaded spending time with strangers. Well, this trip to Croatia proved me wrong...it was a trip of a lifetime. The Dalmatian Islands were stunningly gorgeous, our hotels clean and comfortable, the food delicious, the biking amazing and challenging, and our guides, Neven and Marko, outstanding. Everyday was just perfect. I loved riding at my own pace with encouragement from our guides and the others biking with this group. It was so much fun to enjoy lunch or dinner with new friends or a beer after a long ride. Neven and Marko, native to Croatia, were so knowledgeable, accommodating, funny, encouraging, helpful and "easy on the eyes." I so enjoyed learning about a country through the two of them. They always answered my questions about the culture and even shared interesting facts and experiences of their own. Biking and traveling with natives, gave me a good understanding of Croatia and the culture. The trip was fantastic and I would highly recommend this trip to Croatia...I look forward to booking future trips through VBT.

Wonderful scenery, captivating villages, great food, excellent guides, and spectacular swimming. You should be in quite good physical shape to bike all of the hills but, with the support wagon to take you up the steepest hills (9-10% grade), it is not essential in order to fully enjoy this trip.

  • One of the BEST!

The tour of Croatia and the Dalmatian Islands proved to be MUCH better than expected! The cycling routes seldom lacked a view of the spectacular Adriatic Sea. The tour guides were beyond phenomenal. They were attentive to the needs of all 17 on our tour. Their vast knowledge of the history of the country helped everyone appreciate much more than just the scenery and cycling. Everything was pre-planned to perfection. When it seems easy, you know that a lot of work went into the planning. The guides devoted themselves 24/7 to meeting the needs of the entire group --- all with different cycling abilities and all with different expectations for how they wanted to spend their time. They were the perfect combination of kind, attentive, funny, informative, helpful and caring. In addition, we made friends on the tour from across the country who will now be lifelong friends. We couldn't have designed a more perfect vacation. My concern now is, "How can another VBT tour top this?"

  • Breathtaking sights on a daily basis

Croatia appears to be the "hidden gem" of Europe. From beginning to end of our VBT tour, the scenery dazzled our group. We couldn't even come up with adequate words to write on a postcard because the sights were more beautiful than any adjectives could do justice. I will never get tired of remembering the glitter and refreshing nature of the Adriatic Sea, or the narrow cobbled streets with pathways of stairs and laundry hanging on the line overhead. The daily cycling itineraries always provided enough challenge to make any given trek exciting and invigorating. But there was also just the right combination of flats and coastal roads to make you feel like you were living the envious easy life.

  • Best vacation ever!

I will never take another vacation that is not a VBT vacation. I cannot say enough good things about our trip and our trip leaders Matej and Neven. So organized, polite, patient and helpful and so unbelievably knowledgeable about their country's history. Planned events were perfectly orchestrated, and for the perfect amount of time we did have to ourselves, we were given a list of suggestions and recommendations. The riding was challenging at times, but we had plenty of stops for Gelato, swimming, and sightseeing so we had time to catch our breath. We had a great group of people from all over the country who were similar in ability, which was perfect and almost all did the full rides everyday. We did the pre-trip to Dubrovnik which I highly recommend and we did the post trip to Split which I recommend as well - do not miss Plitvice Lakes! Croatia is such a proud and beautiful country, rich in history and tradition yet so welcoming. The coastal areas and islands with their magnificent beaches and laid back attitude, make me want to come back again and again.

  • The best one yet!

This was our 6th VBT trip and the best one yet. The scenery was amazing. The biking was definitely moderate (several steep hills with switchbacks) although not quite as hard as the Tuscan Hill towns. Guides (Neven and Matej) were superb! Hotels were great. Perfect mix of biking and other excursions (swimming in the Adriatic Sea, ferry rides, boat ride to Hvar, etc.). When we told people that we were going to Croatia their reaction was either "Wow, I've heard it is beautiful" or "Why?". After this trip I have become an ambassador of Croatia's tagline "the Mediterranean the way it used to be". Unspoiled coastlines, challenging biking, kind people, sunny weather and fresh delicious food.

Croatia is a jewel of a country. It is one of the most beautiful and friendly countries I have visited. Many of the citizens speak English. Dubrovnik is a must see. I would go back and explore other islands. The trip leaders were very special people. Food was outstanding. Swimming in the Adriatic was pristine. I would recommend surf shoes. This was our first VBT trip and it far exceeded all that I had heard from friends and our expectations on the beauty of the Country of Croatia. Our hotels and travel arrangements were first class. Our every need and want was taken care of by expert guides who enriched our trip with their knowledge of the history and culture of this very old country. We enjoyed interacting with the local people by visiting their homes and enjoying Croatian cuisine. Our rides allowed for novice as well as some challenging hills for those that wanted the extra push. We experienced very little traffic and some wonderful old villages. The amazingly beautiful landscape, the crystal clear Adriatic, the rich history and culture, and the warm, welcoming people make southern Croatia a truly unique travel experience. • This tour's natural beauty was enhanced by the historical information provided by the leaders

The initial 6 mile ride revealed the country's natural beauty and charm. Pomegranite trees, lemon trees, lime trees, olive trees and grape vineyard with elderfly folks picking the grapes decorated the country side. One farmer walking down the road with a donkey and a goat reflected the slower pace of life. The hospitality of the people was apparent when we went to their homes two different evenings for dinner--loved the octopus salad The political and historical background of Croatia came alive through our two leaders who presented the pros and cons on Croatia becoming part of the European Union. The cooling dip in the aquarmarine blue of the Adriatic Sea awaited us after the long serpentine climbs on the bike

I've always thought of myself as an independent traveller and didn't think I would enjoy being part of an organized tour. The bike tour in the Croatian islands changed my mind completely. I thought VBT organization and in-country trip leaders were excellent. It was clear how much background research had gone into selecting routes and setting up special experiences. The hotels were fine, the food excellent and every day was a pleasure. I was very impressed by how the trip leaders made everyone comfortable, regardless of bike experience. • Returning to this part of the world after 42 years was one of my dreams.

Having hitchhiked all over Europe and Northern Africa in 1970 the place I most dreamed of returning to was the former Ugoslavia. The area surrounding Dubrovnik left a lasting impression on me with the Adriatic Sea being the backdrop of many of my memories. On this trip, seeing Dubrovnik by kayaking around the island of Lokrum, swimming on lovely beaches, walking the wall and enjoying time in the old city was just the beginning of a truly special experience. Biking on the islands of Brac and Hvar gave me a new delight with fabulous views at the top of each mountain and around every turn. Each town was more lovely than the last with history an American can hardly imagine. The Adriac Sea is still a hypnotic clear blue so what your camera can't capture your mind will hold forever. Sharing time with our VBT leaders and a wonderful group of people was another highlight. For the post trip my friend and I were lucky enough to make our way by car up into the Plitvice Lakes National Park which was an experience not to be missed. Driving from Split was easy and the sights dramatic as we moved up into the mountains of green which at times felt much like Vermont. Croatia's beauty is unforgettable.

I loved this trip for many reasons. The scenery is spectacular, the Croatian people are very proud of their country and it shows, the bike riding was challenging but doable with excellent van support, and the seaside villages are beautiful with wonderful swimming opportunities plus the roads were well off the beaten path. One of the most important things for me was meeting Croatians, visiting their homes, having a chance to eat excellent Croatian food and enjoying their company. VBT guides, Milan and Neven were really terrific at guest support, from resolving a hotel maintenance issue to anticipating my van support needs. You do need to be able to bike hills, it isn't flat. But the guides are there to take you to the top of the steepest if you aren't up for it. Croatia stole my heart.

Cycling in Croatia was the experience of a lifetime! The scenery was gorgeous, the cycling was challenging, but worth the effort, and the guides were knowledgeable and encouraging. The hotels were lovely, and the food was delicious. What else can I say? I'd go again in a minute!
