Latvia & Lithuania: The Baltics
The sandy reaches of the Curonian Spit make for spectacular cycling—and you won’t find another bicycling vacation that explores this unique ecosystem. Spanning the Curonian Lagoon and the Baltic Sea, this 61-mile sand-spit brings you through fresh pine forests, wetlands teeming with bird life, and acres of dunes tumbling into cerulean waters. Explore the fascinating Hill of Witches, where Lithuanians crafted whimsical sculptures, and learn how to polish your very own piece of amber during an amber workshop. Discover the pinnacle of Latvian cuisine during a meal at a Michelin-recognized restaurant and enjoy some Lithuanian home cooking during a cooking class with some friends of ours at a lakeside manor house. Explore Latvian castles, pedal the Baltic coast, and explore beautifully maintained cities. With long summer days and short nights, you’ll have plenty of time to drink in the beauty of this unspoiled destination.
Tour Highlights
- Explore the Curonian Spit, a natural boundary between mainland Lithuania and Russia—and a UNESCO World Heritage site.
- Delve into Lithuania’s amber heritage on a tour of the Amber Museum, housed in a historic palace, and at a local artisan’s workshop.
- Tour the Cold War Museum, located in a former underground missile site.
- Cycle along forested bike paths from cosmopolitan Riga to the seaside town of Jūrmala.
- Stay in historic boutique hotels, a lakeside resort, and a countryside manor.

Your vacation is about to begin! Spend your first night aloft and arrive ready for an unforgettable trip.
A local representative or driver welcomes you on arrival at Tallinn Airport and arranges your complimentary car service to your centrally located hotel in Tallinn, approximately a 20-minute drive.
Welcome to Tallinn, Estonia’s captivating capital—a city where medieval spires, cobblestone lanes, and red-tiled rooftops meet a vibrant modern culture. Settle into your elegant boutique hotel in the heart of the UNESCO-listed Old Town, where centuries of Hanseatic history mingle with contemporary charm. Ideally located within walking distance of the city’s most treasured landmarks, your hotel blends historic character with refined comfort—an inviting base for the beginning of your Baltic adventure.
If you arrive before the official check-in time of 3:00 p.m., your room may not yet be ready; however, the hotel will gladly store your luggage so you can start exploring. Step outside to wander through Tallinn’s storybook streets, lined with pastel-hued merchants’ houses and hidden courtyards. Stroll across Town Hall Square, admire the onion-domed Alexander Nevsky Cathedral, or climb Toompea Hill for sweeping views of the harbor and the city’s medieval skyline.
As evening falls, discover Tallinn’s thriving culinary scene—where candlelit cellar restaurants, modern Nordic bistros, and cozy cafés celebrate Estonia’s seasonal ingredients and coastal flavors.
Lunch and dinner are on your own today. Your City Highlights include curated recommendations for dining and sights to help you make the most of your first day in Estonia’s enchanting capital.
After an included breakfast, enjoy a full day to explore more of Tallinn’s timeless charm at your own pace. You might begin your morning at Kadriorg Park, a serene oasis of tree-lined avenues and fountains, home to Kadriorg Palace, commissioned by Peter the Great, and the world-class Kumu Art Museum, showcasing Estonian and international works.
For a glimpse into Tallinn’s maritime past, stroll to the Seaplane Harbour Museum, where historic vessels and interactive exhibits tell stories of exploration and seafaring life. Or venture beyond the Old Town walls to discover the city’s evolving creative side in districts such as Telliskivi Creative City, filled with cafés, galleries, and design studios.
Pause midday for lunch at your leisure—perhaps at a cozy Old Town café or a modern Nordic restaurant featuring locally sourced ingredients. The afternoon is yours to continue exploring, shop for handcrafted textiles and amber jewelry, or simply relax with coffee and pastries in a sunlit square.
Dinner is on your own this evening. Your City Highlights include curated recommendations for sightseeing, dining, and local experiences to help you make the most of your final day in Estonia’s capital.

After an included breakfast, enjoy a full day to explore Vilnius and its surroundings at your own pace. Use your City Highlights as a guide to uncover hidden gems and notable landmarks throughout the city. Perhaps revisit favorite spots in the Old Town, admire the frescoes of St. Anne’s Church, or explore the city’s vibrant cafés and galleries.
We highly recommend a day trip to Trakai, a picturesque lakeside town just 30 minutes from Vilnius. Its centerpiece, the magnificent Trakai Island Castle, rises from the serene waters of Lake Galvė like something from a fairy tale. Once the residence of Lithuania’s grand dukes, this red-brick fortress offers fascinating insight into the region’s medieval history and architecture. The scenic setting—surrounded by wooded shores, bridges, and shimmering water—makes Trakai an ideal destination for an afternoon of exploration, photography, and relaxation.
Return to Vilnius in the late afternoon, where the rest of the evening is yours to enjoy. Perhaps dine at one of the city’s acclaimed restaurants, sampling Lithuanian dishes reimagined with modern flair, or take an evening stroll through the softly illuminated Old Town.

After an included breakfast, enjoy another day to discover more of Vilnius, a city where Gothic spires, Baroque domes, and modern design coexist in perfect harmony. Use your City Highlights as a guide to explore both well-known landmarks and local favorites at your own pace. Art lovers may wish to visit the MO Museum, a striking contemporary space that celebrates Lithuanian and Baltic art through innovative exhibitions. Alternatively, ascend Gediminas Hill for panoramic views of the Old Town’s rooftops and church towers, or step inside Vilnius Cathedral and its crypts to explore centuries of history beneath the city’s most iconic landmark.

Hotel Pacai
The luxurious Hotel PACAI was once the most magnificent mansion in the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, the residence of the noble Pacai family and host to heads of state. In 2018, with the vision of local architects and designers, it was fully reimagined to reflect the Baroque grandeur of 17th-century Vilnius. Located at the heart of the Old Town on the main Didžioji Street, one of the city’s oldest thoroughfares, you’ll be steps away from boutique shops, restaurants and the historic buildings of Cathedral Square and the rest of the Old Town. Each air-conditioned room provides a seamless blend of local touches and urban sophistication.
This trip was wonderful with its history, beautiful scenery and exhilarating bike rides. The Curonian Spit was a favorite part for us. The guides were terrific and made the trip even more interesting with their knowledge and attentiveness. Accommodations were great. We highly recommend this trip; it is a part of the world we never expected to see and it was fascinating!
