Incredible riverside and forested bike paths, perfect tour stops (like the castle theater in Cesky Krumlov), and great guides! My husband and I can’t wait to do another VBT tour.

Terrific trip. Prague is now one of my favorite cities. The differences and similarities of these 3 countries was most educational. Terrific tour guides and energetic people.

Fantastic tour with local tour leaders and great cycling for all levels
We took this trip after having done a supported trip in Europe with another company and were thrilled with VBT. We compared the 2 companies before choosing VBT and for almost 1/2 the price we stayed in the same hotels and had the same number of meals. This was also the only tour company we found that included airfare and it was a great value and enabled us to upgrade to business class for what we considered a worthwhile expenditure due to their incredible airline deals. This tour was wonderful because the riding was just challenging enough with the various options for the beginner to avid athlete. I loved riding along the Danube and either a hybrid or road bike would be fine on this ride because the sections that were packed gravel were not a problem on the road bikes. We loved all 3 of the towns we stayed in and thought it was really the perfect combination to see as much as possible of the area. I would strongly suggest including at least one of the pre or post trips because it’s really easy to do since you are starting or ending their anyway and the service we had at those hotels were great because of their relationship with VBT. We also loved this tour because of our trip leaders. They were both locals from the area and this made all the difference in the world. They really understood the culture, what we were seeing and this was a huge difference from a leader that is merely fluent in the local language. I would highly recommend this trip to anyone who wishes to see these countries and the small amount of sight seeing/tours that were included were perfect for us. We can’t wait to get on another VBT tour.

Trip was well beyond our expectations.
An incredible trip. We made so many wonderful friends, and loved the biking. Our leaders were very accommodating and took care of our every need. We have been on many biking trips over a lifetime and consider this trip with VBT one of our favorites.
Wow! What a trip!
This was our “trip of a lifetime”! Jan and Juri are consummate hosts. They share their vast knowledge of the Czech Republic, Germany and Austria. They are warm, friendly and greatly contribute to the tour experience! We can’t wait for our next VBT trip.

A truly exceptional tour!
I’ve been on four overseas VBT trours, and the countryside on this one was the most beautiful of all. We exercised the option to stay in Prague pre-tour, and it was a marvelous experience, as was every facet of this trip. The tour leaders, accommodations, and variety of experiences were all absolutely wonderful! VBT is the only way to go. I’ve been enjoying its tours since 1984.

This is a fun tour with amazing things to see.
We really loved our trip. The guides were top-notch, friendly, helpful, and a lot of fun. The scenery was gorgeous and we had plenty of time to stop and look around.

Locations were the best they could be and rides were well thought out on good paths and roads
A five star bike tour. Prague, Vienna, Cesky and the danube in one tour with wonderful accomdations. Our favorite of the five European tours we have taken.

Great cultural insight
Our private tour of the castle at Cesky Krumlov was one of many highlights for me on this trip. Seeing the theatre from the 1700’s and the many painted stage sets, the wooden benches, and imagining the whole place lit with candles in that era, made quite an impression.
Another image that I treasure from this trip was riding my bike away from a beautiful Inn with grape vines terraced on my right, fields with poppies, fruit trees and the river on my left, and the steeple of an ancient church and a small village ahead. It was breathtakingly beautiful.

My family really enjoyed this tour more than they had expected!
This was our first trip with VBT and it was such a great time. It was beautiful locations, good food and company. It was also a no worry trip as VBT really thought of everything that they could do to make the trip run smoothly. I would definitely recommend that everyone do a trip like this at least once or more in their lifetime. It was a blast! Thanks for a great and memorable vacation!

This was one of the very best bike tours that we have ever done–interesting in so many ways including the history of the area, the sight-seeing, the beautiful rides along the Danube and Inn Rivers, and a great group of people.
Great tour, so glad we signed up!
The ride was quite easy and the scenery spectacular. One of the highlights of our trip was the town and surrounding area of Cesky Krumlov> the Czech people and history of the country were well worth the trip, and then to our delight we loved Passau and the Wachua Valley. A great trip.

Fabulous little towns to stop, gawk, take photos.
You start off in Prague which is just brilliant and international while
Staying authentically old and historic. Then off to the ride and very
Educational info on WWII and Russian captivity (only if you are interested to pump guides who are cute and informed)Fun to have company to enjoy the adorable towns constantly showing up. Beautiful scenery and pretty easy flat ride. And then you are rewarded with great guilt free meals. Could do a month of following
The river, but then they sent me home and the trip was over.

A very special experience
Our tour leaders were fabulous, hotels lovely, and riding surprisingly mostly off road through vineyards, forests, and along bike paths. It was a wonderful trip and highly recommended. A great value and highly recommended.

Imagine waking in a quant inn to a central European sun. Ahead of you is a full day of biking through amazing countryside. It can happen. My experience on this tour was indescribable in mere words. Try it for yourself.

my 1st tour with VBT and many more will follow-EXCELLENT
from start to finish, VBT had all the bases covered. We were met at the airport door by our taxi/escort, who brought us right to our hotel. The next day we met the group and the guides, and the real fun began. People from all over the states and Canada- everyone soon became friends, and we had many laughs and funny experiences. My wife and I will go on our 2nd VBT trip to France in September. And next year is Italy! Can’t wait!

My favorite tour!!!
We have taken at least 10 VBT tours and this was my favorite. Beautiful cities and great biking! I loved biking along the Danube. It was also great fun to be transported by train, boat in addition to the bus! We made lasting friendships on this ride.

Best trip with VBT yet and they are all excellent!
This trip was by far number one in my book. Loved the country and the accommodations. Highly recommended.
Three countries in one week
This tour offers a wonderful little “taste” of three different countries, and it was nice to spend at least two nights in each country. I think the greatest way to see the world is from the seat of a bicycle. VBT is the only company offering this type of vacation that I’ve travelled with, so I can’t compare with other companies; but VBT has never disappointed, so I’m not inclined to try the others. The routes were very well planned out for us, and I can’t imagine anyone did not have a wonderful time. Our tour leaders, Josef and Zuzana #sp?# were outstanding.

The heart of old Europe...
Romantic castles, the second oldest theater in Europe, the raging Danube…deep forests…this is a trip featuring high drama in both architecture and nature. Check out Cesky Krumlov, in the Czech Republic: was there ever a more romantic setting tucked in the mountain, white water rapids in the river curling through the town? The Monastery at Melk is the epitome of High Baroque art and architecture. In between, ride through ancient forests and along the Danube…all so romantic!
NancyK, Evanston, IL, USA
I don’t know if it was because it was my first bike tour ever, but this VBT trip was perfect in so many ways. My fitness level wasn’t the best, and I had to use the van a couple of times, but even van time was great. The hotels were all unique, in the Czech Republic it was a historic castle, somewhere in Austria there was a small inn with the most delicious breakfast imaginable. I took this tour in 2008 when it was fairly new for VBT, I am not surprised at all that it has become one os its most popular bike tours. If it weren’t for so many other great destinations that the company offers, I wouldn’t hesitate to go on this tour again.
Graciano, Beverly Hills, CA, USA
Another excellent VBT trip.
The route and the towns visited were excellent. The guides were a lot of fun and very helpful. All the accommodations were excellent as well as the provided meals. The group was the most cohesive of all 3 VBT trips I’ve done. I credit the guides for having a fun opening cocktail party that seemed to get things off on a good note. I recall a picnic with grilled sausages and a lot of excellent food. It was along our bike trail and next to one of the rivers were biked along. As with almost all my VBT experiences, it met or exceeded my expectations. That’s why I’m doing another one next month and am already planning to do yet another one next summer.

This was a great trip. Chesky Krumlov was a real surprise and I think they have the most beautiful European Palace I have seen. Other than some bad weather, everything was excellent on this trip. The leaders were great, the group was great, the food was great—we loved this trip.

A great value and good introduction to Eastern Europe
We wondered about the roads and amenities when we signed up for this one. As it turned out both matrched usual Western European standards. The Czechs have long prided themselves on culture and hospitality. Both were in evidence. The Guides were competent and comfortable and willing to go the extra mile as shown by finding a chup for my camera after I haplessly ruined the original. We even got a swim in the Danube and a evening at the Vienna Boys Choir!

THE VIEW, THE FOOD, THE LEADERS, ALL MADE THIS A TRIP TO REMEMBER!.

Great tour to an unfamiliar spot
This was wonderful tour as the variety of the scenery and the tour itself was great. Prague was a great place to unwind before the trip got started with it being walkable with a ton of things to see. The trip itself provided great scenery and flexibility throughout the time on the bikes. The guides were great and spent all of their time making sure everyone was comfortable and providing assistance whenever needed.

A trip with a wonderful balance of small towns, scenic environments and city splendors
Of the several VBT trips we have taken this might be the most varied in terms of places we biked and city experiences. A train ride, biking by the Danube and through forests, the visit to Czechy Krumlov with its magical fairy book castle in addition to the wonders of Prague and the stunning architecture of Vienna made this trip seem like a months worth of adventures rather than just one week.
Ladybug, Baltimore, MD, USA
Pretty towns, good food, decent cycling. Not one of our favorites, but still a worthwhile tour.
Great in so many ways!
Prague is surely one of the most beautiful and interesting cities in the world. Cesky-Krumlov, Melk, and Passau were very pleasant surprises and Vienna a great end to this trip. The villages and countryside along the way were diverse and welcoming. The leaders were very competent and full of positive energy. I don’t know how you could beat this trip for scenic and sensible bike routes mixed with an incredibly rich culture of foods, architecture and both very old and quite recent history.

Everything about this tour was better than we were told it would be. The tour leaders (Zuzana and Hanka) were knowledgeable, caring, more than competent, and lots of fun! The places we went and things we saw – spectacular! Food, drink, hotels, and on and on – couldn’t have been better! Would we recommend this to others? Yes, and we have. Matter of fact we are coming back for a new VBT tour and are bringing friends with us!

Amazing trip along the waterways of central Europe.
I enjoyed the diversity of terrain, and towns. In general I felt that I biked as much as I wanted to. I tended to do little add-ons that the guides shared with me. The towns and Inns were fabulous. The food was hearty. The friends and guides were the best part of the trip!
SeanM, Rochester, NY, USA
Beautiful tour of the countryside between Prague and Vienna, especially cycling along the Danube
This tour was very well organized. The cycling was complemented by a short train ride through the Sumava National Park and a boat tour along the Danube. The tour guides were from the Czech Republic and Germany and they were able to provide information to the group that only locals can. We were even taught some German to get by. The option of three days in either or both cities at the start and end of the tour is a wonderful feature. I would definitely travel with VBT again and I have recommended the company to many of my friends.

I think about this trip often and it brings a smile to my face every time. My boyfriend and I dream about our next trip with VBT. I can’t wait for the next adventure!

Can't miss this trip!
This trip includes beautiful scenery, interesting history, interaction with some local people, scrumptious local food in both formal and informal settings, and most important, the friendships established with the the leaders and other participants in the group. It was so nice to go on a vacation and not be totally out of shape when I returned home so for those of you who like being active, learning about other cultures and making new friends, this is the trip for you!

individual attention by guides
This tour filled a bucket list item for me. The guides were fantastic and helped a 60 year single women meet others and enjoy the trip. I roomshared with a partner VBT found for me and it made a new friend. The bikes were in good shape and the guide was able to change a tire in minutes and get me back on the trail. Hotels and eating establishments were top rate. I will never forget riding through the vineyards and seeing grapes and pears on the vine.

Train rides, boat cruise on Danube, and biking too
I liked everything about this trip. Would have to review my photos to be more specific since it has been a while since I took this trip.

Cycling is the ONLY way to see these countries!
I’ve been to Europe many times, but not to these regions. Since the Czech republic is still in recovery from former communist rule, the county is flourishing. The terrain in pastoral and the people genuine. It was such a pleasant surpise. Our “hotel” in Germany was formerly a shipmaster’s house and was truly elegant. Eating a wonderful dinner inside a wine cellar was probably the highlight of the trip. The variety of expericences–the cycling; the tours; the bar-b-que; the boat trip on the Rhine is what makes a VBT vacation so unique. This was our second trip with VBT and will not be our last!

Very scenic ride through national parks
The trip guides were wonderful. Made the trip.
The ride itself was a bit “flat” in that we were in parks all of the time with little other types of scenery.

This was a special trip– pedaling along the Danube with castles and grand homes across the river. The small towns were delightful and gave you a feel of bygone days. The guides were the usual spectacular leaders one comes to expect with VBT. Witty, warm, knowledgeable, and fun. I would sign up for this trip again it was so charming.

This was an excellent trip, besides the breath taking views the guides were exceptional. We didn’t want this tour to end.

A trip of a lifetime
The trip was amazing. Our native speaking guides were fun and personable, tending to our every needs. We had a great balance of cycling and touring. Even our modes of transportation between cities were interesting … Train, boats, bus. The accommodations were comfortable and each had its own charm. We so loved our experience that we’re cycling Provence this Fall!

This tour has alot of variety
Each VBT trip we have taken has been excellent and this one does not disappoint. First we stayed in central Prague before meeting our leaders and the location was ideal as also the hotel. We stayed in Cesky Krumlov, a walled town, and had our introductory ride in the area. The next day we explored the countryside. We left Cesky Krumlov and boarded a train for 2 hours that took us to a German forest where we started our biking. The scenery was lovely and we stopped along the way to have lunch and continued on to Passau. We biked along the bike paths both on the German and Austrian sides stopping in small towns along the way. We left Passau on a boat along the Danube and after a short boat ride we departed with our bikes to continue cycling along the Danube. For several days we explored small towns, visited abbeys, and saw vineyards. This trip offered so much variety not only in scenery but in various modes of transportation. As always we had excellent guides. You can’t go wrong with a VBT trip.
This tour offers wonderful experiences of three distinct areas and cultures
This was a wonderful trip with amazing sites in all three countries. Our guides were very helpful, lots of fun and very knowledgeable about the history of the countries. My favorite day was the train trip through the National Park and cycling into Passau. If you’re looking for a trip with easy riding, lots of culture and beautiful scenery…..this is your trip!

Probably our most favorite trip.(So far!) Biking, trains, busing and river cruises with our bikes. We loved the variety and unique cultural experiences in three different countries. We were lucky to get tickets to a different concert every night in Prague and a special organ concert in Passau. Opportunities for adventures are endless. The home made vegetable soup along the way was memorable!

First time and it whet my appetite
When I got a new bike the summer I took this trip, a friend suggested I try a bike vacation. She had done this years ago with another company. I did research on the web and decided VBT was the best value and offered the most features. (After I decided my younger son, an avid cyclist, suggested I look into VBT–I beat him to it.) I didn’t know what to expect, and I totally loved it. The towns we saw, the bike paths, the trip along the Danube–what can I say? It was a fairly flat route, like I’m used to here in Chicago. The weather was a little cold and rainy, like I’m used to here in Chicago. The cultural add-ons were so welcome. I decided after my first trip to take another. By the way, I booked this trip 3 weeks before I took it.

Beautiful scenery, great food, plus history to boot.
I did not think VBT could match our first VBT tour. We were skeptical but we were absolutely wrong. This trip equaled or exceeded out first trip. If scenery, food, history and meeting new people are items you want to have on a guided cycling trip, then look no more. The trip leaders, just as before, help make the trip memorable. The 40+ years of experience that VBT has under their belt definitely shows. We look forward to our next trip.

Biking through Czech Republic, Germany & Austria
What a beautiful place the Czech Republic is and what a wonderful tour. My other half is a much better bike rider than I am and this tour was perfect for the both of us. I was able to bike as much or as little as I wanted. He was able to do all of the riding and asked for extensions. It was lovely to bike at our own pace and sight see. All of the sight seeing tours – castles, churches, small towns, food – all wonderful. How much fun and romantic to bike with him along cobble streets and chat as we went along. The biking pace and sights were hypnotic. One could not ask for a better group or guides.
Monica, Trumbull, CT, USA
The tour has a perfect balance of guided tours and freedom to explore on your own.
We did the pre trip extension and toured around Prague on our own. The hotel was in a perfect spot as it was close to everything we wanted to see and easy to find after we’d wandered around all day. It was hard for me to choose a favorite place or ride each new stop represented a new adventure. Our guides were very helpful and caring people. I especially enjoyed the information they shared about their own countries. It added a personal note to learning about their cultures. As I rode up and down the verdant hills of Czech Republic, thourgh the forest into Germany, or along one of the rivers, I couldn’t help but smile. It was all so beautiful and I felt so lucky to be there.

An amazing trip through the Czech Republic, Germany, and Austria
Our trip was magical. We have never been on such a fun and rewarding vacation. We biked through the most amazing country sides, through villages and small towns and along the Danube River. There is no way we could have seen all of this if we wouldn’t have been on bikes. In additional to our biking we took a river boat, a ferry boat, and a train. What a fabulous experience. Our guides were absolute the best. Not only were they the cutest and sweetest guys you would ever wanted to meet, they also thought of everything. The food was delicious and the accommodations superb. VBT out did themselves. We will definitely travel with them again.

See "Old Europe" through modern eyes.
This trip is not just about cycling through beautiful countryside and enjoying charming old European villages. It is more, much more. It is a series of lessons in European and human history, dating from the 12th Century (and before) up through recent times. The “Velvet Revolution” happened only 23 years ago and the vestiges of the communist occupation are still to be found.
We enjoyed speaking with the local guides who have lived through turbulent times, emerging into the Western way of life only in recent decades. They are still passionate about their culture and way of life that had been stifled after WWII by the Russian occupation.
And so the Czech Republic that we experienced has lovingly preserved its historical structures, has refurbished its towns and cities, and has opened its arms to tourism. The warmth and charm of these people is everywhere to be experienced.
In addition to enjoying the vistas, the charming ancient towns of Cesky-Krumlov and the Wachau, we also were able to partake of the pleasures of the local cuisine, wines and fabulous beers. If it were not for the daily exercise I think that my clothing would not have fit me at the end of this wonderful journey.
Thank you, VBT, for making this experience possible and for providing us with such excellent service.

1st class al the way!
This tour was outstanding from beginning to end. The coordination and communication between trip leaders was excellent. All accommodations and meals were 1st class. The cultural/local tours were extremely interesting. And, the biking was a BLAST. We have recommended VBT to several others since our return and can’t wait to schedule another trip for ourselves!

God bless those tour leaders for hanging with this old lady.
The problem with this tour for us was that we were at least 15
years older than the next participant. This is one reason I prefer
Elderhostel and their biking vacations. However, the money is
about the same for like vacations and there is no question you
have superior food and far superior hotels. Your map system of
biking is absolutely awful. I thought it was just me until the last
or maybe the 2nd to last day of this tour all 20 of us could not
even get out of the hotel parking lot correctly.(it was the day we
passed the “Venus” replica).
Great leaders — the best we have ever had. Beautiful biking, with good sightseeing mixed in. Food and lodgings were terrific as well.

A great way to experience multiple countries and cultures!
I’ve been on multiple VBT bike tours and I have to rank this one at the top! Our trip leaders were knowledgable, very customer focused, and just plain fun to ride with. The accomodations were, at a minimum, very nice, to quite special. The routes we rode and the scheduled (and unscheduled) activites were wonderful. We had amazing weather the entire trip too!

Having never been on a bike or traveled overseas I was apprehensive but no worries. Easy ride amazing scenery and incredible giudes! You should go. Prague was an amazing value!

It was a trip of new places and great friends made. As a woman who just turned 70, I found your EASY trip description a little off.
Too many hills and cobbled streets to manuver. I chose your trips on the descriptions you give – so to keep us “older” customers, please rate your trips in reality. Loved the countryside and places we stayed. So even tho I did not ride as much as I would have liked. the overall trip was great.
Great sights, great biking, great leaders, tour ran as smooth as silk.
This tour went way beyond my expectations. Tour guides were knowledgeable, and ensured all timetables were met exactly, from buses to trains to barges. Hotels were unique and had exceptional food and service. The scenery from the cities to the forests was beautiful, I took over 1500 photos! The tours and tour guides were varied, interesting, and provided insights into the areas we were visiting. All in all, an incredible trip, I would like to take it again, and bring my three daughters so they can experience it. Well done!
susannah, Muskegon, MI, USA
Accommodations were wonderful and unique at every stop. The small, quaint towns were so enjoyable. And the mountaintop views were spectacular. The only way to see Europe!
Every aspect of this tour was 5 star!
The moment I met our guides Andi and Josi, I knew this was going to be a great experience. They are the most personable, accommodating and professional young men I’ve had the pleasure of meeting.
The accommodations were amazing. Views from the rooms were breathtaking. I loved the restored monastery in Cesky Krumlov! Not only were the meals delicious, the settings where they were held were beautiful. The candlelight dinner in the wine cave in Weissenkirchen took my breath away. What fun we had at the picnic lunch Josi prepared for us… grilled sausages and tableclothes… what a nice touch!
The bike routes took us through beautiful forests and quaint villages. The rides along the Danube and Inn Rivers were especially enjoyable. My husband is an avid cyclist while I ride a bike. The daily route options made it possible for each of us to ride at our own level of experience. Van support was always available if you chose to opt out of a portion of the ride.
Though the trip was only 2 weeks, the memories will last a lifetime. Thanks Andi and Josi for your part in creating those memories.

This trip was all around great
The locations were great!
The guides were knowledgeable and great fun yet you knew they took their responsibility seriously.
Having a mix of bigger cities and smaller villages was wonderful.
We did it all – we biked, trained, barged and bused our way across three wonderful countries.

Probably the most beautiful architecture, villages, and countryside you will find in all of Europe
My wife and I had a great time. The people we traveled with were the best, every single one. We had lots of wine and beer, we laughed, we rode, we played, we just had a fun. Our tour leaders Richard and Robert were simply wonderful and so knowledgeable. Diane fell off a curb in Passau and was unable to ride for the last few days of our trip. But our leaders went out of there way to make the rest of her trip fun and enjoyable. In fact our entire group went all out to make the rest of her trip fun. She became the VBT van lady. In one small village the our hotel manager took her on a private tour of the village in his golf cart at the request of our VBT guide Robert. There were countless acts of kindness for her broken foot. Thank you everyone for making our trip so memorable.

Every day was better than the one before
What a professional organization. From the lovely hotels and tasty meals to the well-maintained equipment and excellent leaders, VBT did a great job. Mother nature did her part to create stunning scenery & crisp weather. And thanks to the many brewmasters for their efforts to brew great Bavarian beers. With a bit of training, anyone can do this trip and everyone will enjoy it.
Dont even think about it... just go!
OK, I get this email asking if I would recommend a VBT trip to a friend. Truth is we already have,, at least 5 friends at latest count since we got back! The people who ride and take these trips are self selected as friendly, active, have interesting lives to share and make for wonderful dinner companions.. Couple that with stunning locations, wonderful guides and new life experiences – Whats not to love? I ate strudel from Prague to Vienna, and didnt gain a pound – how good is THAT!
I have been on two trips with VBT, and plan to do as many as I can. It is true joy for me to know that another trip is on the horizon.
A wonderful way to see Europe
Seeing the Czech Republic, Germany and Austria from a bike was a wonderful experience! I loved not having to worry about which route to ride, where to stay, or how to transport my luggage from one place to the next. That was all done for me by VBT. All I had to do was to enjoy the riding and the beautiful scenery. The selection of the small towns along the way was outstanding! I also liked the opportunity to extend the vacation on either end. I chose Prague and thought it was amazing.
Barb62, Portsmouth, NH
Eye-opening and well-managed view of Moldau and Danube valleys
This trip, including the extensions, was well thought out and managed.
We discovered the charm and beauty of Prague – along with some of the world’s best beer! – during the pre-trip extension. The duration was perfect for us to learn the city in terms of its historical origins, its recent role in geo-politics, the beautiful architecture and its amazing culture.
Our experiences during the biking days were equally exciting. The variety of environments – river valleys, historical sites, beautiful small cities and towns, forests, charming rural scenes – was far beyond our expectations.
The opportunity to spend time in Vienna with the post-trip extension was also wonderful. We were able to experience the incredible culture of Vienna, its wonderful parks, the varied neighborhoods, and delightful foods.
As we reflect on the trip, we remain deeply impressed with how smoothly everything fit together. Our trip leaders were able to anticipate our group’s needs and to accommodate all requests. Our hotels were all well-located and very comfortable. Each included meal was excellent. Our maps and cue sheets were well done. The bikes and van support met everyone’s needs.
This was definitely a trip to remember and to recommend.

Another home run by VBT!
I’ve traveled with VBT for 15 years. The Czech Republic tour offered the same consistent experience. The tour guides are amazing, knowledgeable, caring, and ever helpful. Growing up in the region they told personal stories offering unique insights into the history of the areas The itinerary offered an intimate experience of an area the typical traveler would have trouble navigating such as a the one day when we arrived at a small town for lunch and were served a fresh and delicious lunch cooked by a mother and her son at their little farmhouse.
We love the VBT tours and look forward to our next traveling experience.
This was our best vacation with VBT to date
We liked the quality of the hotels, the food, the level of the rides, and the willingness of the leaders to help in every way.
Excellent in every way!
I was amazed at how professionally every detail was attended to. Every day we were pleasantly surprised by something. The guides, Jan and Hana, could not have been better. We had excellent weather which didn’t hurt. No one in the group wanted to give up the bicycles at the end of the trip and many likely would have opted for another week had it been available.

Scenic Czech countryside and Bavarian river fronts
Experience Czech and Bavarian hospitality by night and enjoy a rigorous ride in the countryside each day. Great eastern/central European tour with unbelievable scenery.
Without question, take advantage of the Prague extension and enjoy its old world charm. You’ll want to sample the traditional cuisine throughout your tour but while in Prague and Vienna, don’t hesitate seek out a variety of foodie dining options.
Wine lovers, no need to bring your own favorites from home. Ample excellent regional dry red and white wine options will be available throughout the tour, particularly in Prague and Austria.

All around Grade A+ trip!
This is my 3rd guided tour in the past year, and there is no comparison to this trip. The accomodations were amazing. They surpassed my expectations 10 fold. Our leaders were not only efficient, but very enthusiastic, patient and great fun! Another feature that greatly suprassed my previous trips was the food, and I am pretty particular about that. It was delicious, fresh, and a great variety of choices. Lastly, the scenery, of course, was breathtaking. There is nothing like seeing beautiful country from your saddle. Going forward, my trips will be booked through VBT for sure!
This trip was wonderful in all respects: the bicycle rides, the tour guides, the accomodations, the food, etc., etc., etc.

A biking & learning experience with great scenery, food & hotels.
What a great way to see and learn about the Czech Republic, it’s history under communism and now it’s rebirth, than by biking through the beautiful countryside and seeing it first hand. Then through Germany along the Danube to the Wachau valley with it’s wonderful bike trails and more spectacular scenery of vineyards and orchards between charming small towns. The biking was mostly easy with just enough challenge in some areas to make it more fun and rewarding, Our guides provided a lot of historical information about the areas. From the bike ride to the food and very nice hotels it was another great VBT bike trip I would highly recommend to riders of all levels.

Perfect Balance - Wonderful Memories
Constructing a trip which meets the expectations of all members of the group is a daunting task; nonetheless, VBT’s meticulous planning – of routes, accommodations, meals, and cultural activities – achieved the perfect balance. Every day, each of us could choose how much time we wanted to ride. The van was always an option, and group members respected each other’s choices with understanding. Riding through forests, along rivers, and in the cobblestoned streets of ancient villages filled me with joy. The accommodations were varied to appeal to different preferences, but all were excellent – comfortable, clean, spacious, and chosen with care. The meals offered choices and were always delicious and plentiful. I also appreciated having opportunities to choose places to eat on our own, and our guides’ recommendations were helpful. Home-hosted meals, private tours of points of interest, and time to explore on our own were available. All of the above was complemented by the care and competence of our VBT guides who ensured that the planning became a glorious and memorable reality.

Amazing trip with unbelievable scenery
easy to moderately easy riding through backroads of 3 countries..
There was a nice diversity amongst the 14 bikers so we really enjoyed getting to know everyone. We all looked out for the single people so they weren’t alone. Can’t say that we lost weight because we worked up an appetite biking all day! We felt we never would have gotten to know the culture and charm of these countries without seeing the backroads and meeting the locals. The leaders are locals too so you get a first hand accounting of the history, people, greetings, customs and traditions. Can’t wait until our next trip!!
beautiful part of the world !!
The Wachau Valley in Austria is one of the most beautiful, scenic places ever ! We had great weather, good company, good wine/beer and food, fantastic scenery . What more could anyone want on a vacation.?

VBT does it again
Every trip my wife and I have taken with VBT ends with the statement; “there is no way that we could ever top that trip” and then we go on another and they do top it. This trip was just wonderful in a way that words can’t describe. From the time in Prague (one of the most beautiful and friendly cities we have ever visited) to the last day in Vienna, it was one amazing moment after another. In between we saw such beautiful scenery in and around Czesky Krumlov, Passau, and Weissen Kirchen that was unbelievable. Jan and Bodhie (our tour guides) were just magnificent in that they really brought this whole territory to life with their knowledge of the history, customs, and those little places that are great to visit but would miss on any other tour. They really took care of our group and allowed us the opportunity to really enjoy the culture of this area (they even wore liederhosen to dinner one night and explained the history of the wearing of the garment). Anyway, the food and drink were wonderful, the group of people we spent 10 days with was great, the guides were magnificent in their attentiveness to every detail, the scenery was incredible, and the biking just downright fun. Home run!

The Old World comes to life on this trip.
Prague was a wonderful walking city with a festive atmosphere, even on a Tuesday night! Cesky Kromlov was amazing and the tour by the local guide brought to life, not only the city history but the country’s struggles through communism with the typical Czech self deprecating humour. Riding along the Danube through Germany and Austria was picturesque and the ride on the cruise boat was a lovely change of pace. Germanic and Slavic people tend to be a bit more stoic on outset, but they warm up quickly and went out of their way to be hospitable. And, as on other trips, our tour mates were friendly and interesting. We have made new friends.

Very Enjoyable Trip
I agree with everything others have said in their reviews of this trip. The routes are scenic, the leaders wonderful, and the lodging very comfortable. I’ll mention a couple of things I didn’t see covered.
This trip is rated Easy. That is generally true, but there is one day of hills that some people will not consider “Easy”. There is always the option of hitching a ride back in the van which is what several people in our group chose to do.
This was our first trip with VBT and we were surprised to discover that Trip Leaders don’t “lead” — they are behind the group sweeping the track. Each rider must find their own way using directions provided each morning. This can take quite a bit of time, especially if the weather isn’t the best. I really urge VBT to adopt GPS technology or some other method of guiding trip participants.

Trains, Ships, and Vans!
Our favorite VBT trip remains The Czech Republic, Germany, and Austria. From Prague to peddling in Bavaria to cruising on the Danube, every day was a totally different adventure. There were hills for those who needed them and flats for the rest of us. We didn’t want it to end!

A Storybook Vacation!
Riding through the black forest, crossing the moat to enter the castle, staying in an old monastery, picnic in the countryside, eating and drinking the local cuisine are just some of the most amazing memories we shared on this incredible adventure. We truly loved our time spent in all three countries! Our guides were amazing! They were very knowledgeable about each place we visited and I am so grateful for them taking the time to share their experience
and knowledge with us. This was a great bonus! This trip is the perfect combination of beauty ,relaxation and loads of fun and adventure!

Would do it again in a heartbeat!
Spectacular scenery, great leaders, charming hotels, perfectly organized. This was our belated honeymoon, and I can’t imagine any trip we would have enjoyed more. Our leaders even had chilled champagne and a riverside room awaiting us at our first hotel.

Looking forward to the next one!
It is so incredibly easy for me to write a negative review as I have the descriptors for said reviews always at the ready. However, I am somewhat at a loss for words for this VBT trip. How to describe the fabulous scenery, the genial camaraderie of our group of bicyclists and the attentiveness and professionalism of our team leaders? I guess I just did. Thank you VBT for making our first tour with you memorable and we will be back!

Classical Old World Central Europe; just wonderful!
In spite of our age we would be considered “Advanced Cyclists”
having recently completed the Croatia trip, Spain, Provence, etc.
but the simple beauty and history offered by this tour allowed us
to “slow down and smell the roses”. We are now looking forward
to your Puglia trip in October and we’ll do our hard cycling at
home and enjoy Puglia as we assume you have designed it
to be enjoyed at a more leisurely pace. Sometimes it’s fun
to act your age!

More than I ever dreamed this trip could be!
What a fantastic trip this was. I’ve never been to Europe, especially seeing it on a bicycle, and what a view I had. Every city and town we went to was unique unto itself with beautiful churches, castles and quaint streets winding through the towns. The scenery along the Danube would take your breath away. Can’t wait to take another trip such as this with everything so well planned out. I’ll be talking about this trip for a long time to come.
Ididit67, Travelers Rest, SC
The two days riding on the Danube were exactly what I envisioned.
This was my fifth trip bicycle tour with VBT. The two days riding on the Danube were the best rides ever.. The hotels and included cultural tours were wonderful. The two day extension in Vienna capped a wonderful holiday.
BillyO, Gilroy, CA
Only one problem with tour
The tour was great, the hotels were great, the riding venues were well thought-out, and the leaders were wonderful. The only problem we had was with the flight arrangements. We were told by telephone that our originally-scheduled flight times had changed and were given new times. When we got to the airport we were told that the flight times had never been changed and we ended up spending an extra 6 hours at the airport waiting for the originally-scheduled flights.
Swimmer, San Jose, CA, USA
the best bicycle tour company
This is our second VBT tour and we look forward to more. I also give permission to VBT to release my name and contact info if anyone would like to chat directly. The first one (Tuscany) wasn’t a fluke. The formula for this one is similar: great tour guides, very well-chosen routes, bicycles that are better than you’d rent on your own, interesting and generally excellent hotels, a sense of “immersion” in the culture and food as good as can be expected (in other words, not that good in the Czech Republic but excellent in Germany and Austria, if a bit heavy).
The whole thing is very organized and yet it appears spontaneous, with a great sense of discovery.
Further, if you price out the tour on your own you’ll see that they make most of their money negotiating group deals with the buyers. Hence it is excellent value for the cyclists. We ran into some people from a competitor that charges 30% – 40% more. As far as we can tell it’s because they have 3 tour guides when VBT’s 2 is plenty, and they stay at these luxury hotels when we “settle” for very charming and comfortable ones, with the all-important air-conditioning.
Nor does VBT leave anything on the table in those hotels. We contacted each one to upgrade on the theory that VBT was getting the cheapest rooms in their group deal. 2 of the 3 hotels said: “VBT already gets our nicest rooms.”
This tour offered a diverse selection of activities, rides, and culture.
This was an incredible “active” tour of three countries. The rides were peaceful but still offered dazzling landscapes and architecture to view. The side tours and trips were unique, interesting, and fun. The ride was easy for the most part and offered some challenging extensions that we enjoyed. The hotels were thematic to the region with extremely helpful staff. The rooms were comfortable and spacious. The meals offered were excellent. Our tour guides were always available, willing, and patient with any question or solution to any problem. They were very concerned with safety which was a challenge in spots as we arrived after major flooding along our bike path. We enjoyed our pre-trip stay in Prague. I would recommend this to anyone going on this tour. There is so much to see and do in a short distance from the hotel. Fantastic Time!

Good opportunity to see famous cities and historical sites
This is my 3rd VBT trip and I expected to enjoy the biking as much as I did Provence and The Tuscan Coast. Unfortunately I was quite disappointed.
2 days of riding were on flat, boring gravel bike paths. The recent flood left heavy deposits of silt on the path and the surrounding area.
The hotel in Passau was recently flooded and smelled of mildew.
I believe it would have been better to re-route the trip and avoid the flooded areas.
The trip did not meet my expectations.
Response from: Product Team
Thank you for your comments. This trip is rated ‘Easy’ while the other two you mentioned going on are rated ‘Easy/Moderate’. Our ‘Easy’ tours are designed for those trying a bike vacation for the first time and the bike routes are less challenging than other trips. Unfortunately, the flooding did impact the area quite significantly. We were able to re-route trips that were already started or were soon to start. Work to rehab the hotel and improve the paths after the flood was undertaken very quickly, and overall our guests experienced very little inconvenience given the dramatic initial impact. Our priority was always to deliver a vacation that would meet and exceed our guest’s expectations . Thank you again for taking the time to provide your feedback, we greatly appreciate it.
In spite of the rain!
We had one of the rainiest, coldest couple of weeks in May, and it was still a glorious trip. We biked with shower caps over our helmets (courtesy of our guides) to keep dry, borrowed extra clothing, and really loved this trip.
Baby Boomer Bikers' Heaven
Finding the right words to describe just how good this tour is, is difficult at best. The food, lodging, service of VBT leaders, and bike routes are unparalleled by any other bike tour. While we were on this tour, the NY Times published an article on the top bike trails in the world and the trails on this tour along the Danube were among those top rides. We would heartily agree. Great bike trails, a compatible group of biking colleagues, and two excellent guides made this tour our best VBT trip ever.

Well organized trip. Guides were fantastic!
This was our first VBT trip but won’t be our last. We really loved everything about this trip. Our guides were awesome! They really took the time to get to know each of us and made sure all our needs were taken care of. Their job is physically demanding but they were always happy and fun to be around.
It would be hard to pick a favorite part of the trip because everyday offered something new and exciting. I appreciated that I didn’t have to bike the entire route but could still have fun while riding in the van.

Best Trip in Europe
This trip, including the pre-trip to Prague, has great activities and vistas every day. The bike paths along the Danube are the best one can find.

Trip was great!!(7/1-7/10/13)
I am a multi trip VBT traveler and was very happy w/our choice. Our guides, Bohdi and Jiri, went above and beyond assiting us in everyway!! I did feel, however, a little rushed compared to other trips.(on the downside: my IPAD was stolen in Crsky Krumlov..on the 4th of July, no less!)….all in all, we had a great time! Thanks- John and Rochelle

Excellent diverse venue
This trip was fantastic. Seeing three different countries up close during the same trip was truly a wonderful experience. Much of the ride was on beautiful bike paths. The food was excellent, my favorite being the awesome dinner we had in an ancient wine cellar. Our tour guides Jan and Jeri did a great job of making sure we all were comfortable and had fun. They were a joy. The accomodations were all unique, fit the locale, and were great. This was my second VBT trip and I didn’t think I could top the first one, but this was certainly as good. I look forward to the next!

Just got back from 10 wonderful days (2 extra days in Prague) on a remarkable tour that sampled some of the best terrain of Czech, Germany and Austria.
We lucked in with perfect weather and two absolutely outstanding guides — Andi and Zuzana — who did their utmost to keep our group engaged, on task and completely entertained.
I would heartily recommend this trip to anyone with a reasonable fitness level (preparation on a bike at homereally helps in your enjoyment level) who wants to experience an “off the typical tourist track” in central Europe.

Great way to experience three countries
This tour is a great way to get off the beaten path and experience life in the Czech Republic, Southeast Germany and the Wachau Valley of Austria. The accomodations were very nice and our bike routes got us out in the countryside to really experience life away from the big cities.

Great city and town visits; mixed biking routes
The pre- and post-trips in Prague and Vienna were terrific. My opinion of the bike routes is partially affected by the fact that my trip occurred during the flooding rains of June 2013. The tour leaders did an admirable job of managing the difficulties posed by the extreme weather and scrambled to create alternate activities on the days we could not bike. Our hotel in Passau was flooding as we left it–the weather was that bad. Unfortunately the flooding meant we were unable to bike the last two days, which I suspect would have been my favorite as it looked like they would have afforded idyllic rides on paved bike paths along the river. The previous biking days either offered unremarkable views or were on narrow, gravel paths with the amount of road between my bike and cars or a drop-off to a river too close for comfort. We did visit some appealing Austrian and German towns (did not get to Melk due to the floods), had a wonderful lunch in a Czech home, and the guides were, as always, fantastic, which is why I rated this tour “good.”

Each day was so different!
We were amazed at the recovery of this area from the damaging floods in June. Aside from the historic flood lines on some buildings and the silt buildup on the sides of the bike baths you would never know it happened! The variety of activities including train rides, boating, biking and cookouts along the Danube, crossing country borders on our bikes and visiting picturesque villages along the way were such fun! The guides were wonderful always very informative, accommodating and great company. The riding was easy/moderate with the guides either adding more adventure for those wanting a challenge or offering alternatives for those who would prefer a more relaxing ride. Enjoy the great food while meeting new friends!

Bike camp for adults!
Can’t say enough great things about the two tours I have taken with VBT (last year my wife and I also did the Tuscany By The Sea tour).
VBT is a well oiled machine where they have taken the best of what each area has to offer and cut out the rest to maximize enjoyment (and safety). For example, we didn’t actually ride out of Prague or into Vienna — both of which would have been potential nightmares. Those trips are handled by a nice coach bus.
The hotels were all fantastic, the guides over the top and great company — and bonding — with other guest over shared riding accomplishments.
We are already planning next year’s VBT trip. One key tip is that the better bike shape you are in, the more you can ride and really get the most out of the tirp.

Way more than I ever expected!
From the minute we met our tour guides until we said goodbye this was a whirlwind of fun! Andy and zuzana were so upbeat and fun they seemed more like friends than guides. All of the locations were fabulous. Loved the farmhouse lunch.

Wonderful Time with VBT
Our trip was wonderful with VBT! Our guides, Bodhi and Andy, were very accommodating and all-around great guys. We couldn’t have had two better people to guide us around Europe.

This is the best vacation I've ever taken.
Beautiful scenary. Trip was very well planned. The hotels were great. The guides were professional, very helpful, and knew are names by the first day. Prague is outstanding — picture perfect, inexpensive, and very walkable. Biking is great for a fit and active beginner. The best bikers were the oldest in our group. Our group of 19 was fun loving and we had a blast together.
If you like an active vacation this is it. But beware, this trip will make all your future vacations pale in comparison!

Perfect Vacation with nothing to worry about
From the minute I arrived at the airport in Boston until the moment I touched back down there was not a worry to be had. The hotels were marvelous, the guides made everything seem so easy, but they worked very hard at that and we all benefited! The included meals were at fun local places that added to our experience. The riding was perfect for a trip where you want to be a tourist. 25-35 miles on average of mostly flat terrain. I definitely recommend the hybrid bikes due to crushed stone bike paths and cobblestone streets. I brought my own saddle, shoes, and peddles and would do the same again. I am so used to being clipped in that I would have been unhappy without them. The saddle took up so little room in my suitcase it was worth it. Prague should not be missed, but Vienna I could have passed on. I fell in love with the Czech Republic and want to go back. This was my 1st trip with VBT. They are really a top notch company and this is a must do trip.

Our Active Vacation in the Czech Republic, Germany, and Austria
This was the 3rd biking trip that we have taken with VBT and we had a wonderful time. VBT organizes everything for you and everything went very smoothly from start to finish. When we travel to foreign countries, we like to go with VBT because we feel safe and secure knowing that we have tremendous support from great tour guides and we come away with a real flavor for the country we are visiting. The biking was awesome and challenging, the places we visited ranged from quaint and charming to magnificent, the hotels were beautiful and accomodating, and the food was delicious and representative of the town or country we were in at the time. There were many diverse activities on this trip as well. We had tours of palaces and monasteries, took a barge ride down the Danube River and a train ride, too. Our guides, Andy and Jan, were both very supportive and knowledgable, attending to all our needs and teaching us about the culture, geography, history, religion, language, education, and government of each country. Our group of bikers was also a great group and we all got along very well. Our vacation was an adventure we will never forget.

Great trip- Well planned and organized
My wife and I had a great time. This was one of our best trips ever. We enjoyed the biking, scenery and our tour guides were outstanding and attended to every single detail. Many additional features that were added and incldued help make the trip one of the most memorable ones that we have ever taken. Hats off to VBT, their staff and the people that put this together. I would strongly recommend this tour
The variety offered in modes of travel enhanced this VBT experience.
As always on my 4 previous VBT trips, the leadership was, once again, excellent! The scenery and bike paths along the Inns and Danube Rivers was outstanding. Additionally, the morning river cruise through the locks on the Danube and the morning train ride in Germany added “value” and variety to this Czech Republic, Germany and Austria trip.
Another fabulous VBT trip
This was my second VBT trip (the first being Tuscany by the Sea). It was just as wonderful, and quite different at the same time. The leaders were fantastic, funny and helpful. They work so hard (but make it look easy).
The trip is really three different experiences in one. Czech Republic, Germany and Austria offer three different looks at that part of Europe. I loved Cesky Krumlov, although I had never heard of it before. Passau was amazing — to see how well they had recovered from the devastating floods from just last June. Austria was just beautiful and serene.
My favorite day was the 30 miles along the Danube, watching the swans float by. It was so releaxing and beautiful.
I took the opportunity to visit Terezin Concentration Camp during the 3-day pre-trip to Prague, and I highly recommend it. It was a sobering experience, and I’m very glad I went.
(I have tried unsuccessfully to upload a few pictures — it always times out on me.. so I’m just going to give up on that.)

Trip exceeded expectations
This was our first trip with VBT. Biking level was as described. Locations were beautiful and the guides made all the difference. They worked well as a team and did everything for us. Biked through many small towns and villages. Always felt safe and had plenty of time to enjoy the sights. We will definately do another trip in the near future with VBT.
Fish37919, Knoxville, TN, USA
We traveled in sept/oct with a closed group of 15. This is vbt’s most popular tour. Very worthwhile. You experience 3 countries in a short amount of time. Our group was very athletic and many of us kept a good pace throughout this tour and added the daily extensions offered. This made the overall experience moderate, not easy. Some hills as well. The guides professionalism and group tailoring is what makes VBT what it is. Both Andi and Boudi were the best. Engaging, caring, high level bike experts. Everything is taken care of while your with the group. The hotels used are used regularly by VBT. Luggage, shuttles, most meals all arranged.. 4 and 5 star eurpeoan hotels are 3 and 4 for Americans. Not a big deal. Meals were superb, give you a real taste of local cuisine. One thing you should be very aware of is the time of year you travel. VBT does not highlight this. Your Biking experience is related to 1. Weather conditions( they bike rain or shine), 2. Clothing( be prepared for all kinds of weather, layers are necessary). 3. How you prepare yourself for a bike trip. This is listed as level easy. Highly advice if you want to get the most out of your experience is to train by riding a bike 4-6 months ahead of time. It’s called saddle time. Can you sit on a bike for approx. 4-5 hrs/day, 5 days in a row? The more you are prepared the more you’ll get out of your trip, yes they have vans when your tired, but who, wants to van it when you can ride it?
A wonderful, well, organized trip, highly reccomended!

Charming towns and countryside
We had a tremendous time! Once again, VBT excelled at everything: our hotels, our meals, our bike routes, and our guided tours. We thoroughly enjoyed the pre-trip to Prague–it has to be one of my favorite European cities. I wanted to stay in both Cesky Krumlov and Weissenkirchen, and keep on biking, instead of returning home!
Our trip leaders, Jan and Hana, were excellent, as our VBT leaders always have been. And we’ve formed such a special friendship with our VBT biking teammates.

a wonderful way to experience the Czech Republic and the Danube River.
Prague and the Czech Republic are wonderful places to visit, and this trip made it even more magical. The biking varied from trips through the enchanting bike paths in the Sumava National Park to the scenic bike path along the Danube River. The accommodations were first class. I especially liked the Raffelsberger Hof in the beautiful Wachau Valley in Austria (A family run hotel housed in an old renaissance building). The hosted dinners were exceptional and featured local foods, wine and beer. This is our second VBT trip and consistent with the first trip our tour guides were exceptional. They combined a wealth of local knowledge with a desire to make the trip memorable for all of us.

Truly memorable cultural experience
Wonderful opportunity to see a different part of the world, but the cities and small towns of two fascinating countries. This tour was well-planned and a lot of fun. I would highly recommend visiting Czech Republic and Austria with VBT.
AnneCP, Minneapolis, MN, USA
a good solid trip
this trip was not the most dramatic or beautiful of all the VBT trips I have taken, but it was a very pleasant relaxing one. I liked the boat ride, and train trip as variations. the countryside was very picturesque, and the biking was easy. the only reason it didn’t get 5 stars from me was the inclusion of Passau for two nights. It didn’t talk to me. Would you consider Salzburg instead? I spent a week there after the trip and enjoyed the city and the biking immensely. We spent a lot of time in the van anyway, what’s another hour or so?
A minor complaint is that a lot of time was spent in the forest. I like some of that, but really prefer little villages and towns, like the last day. But, as I said it had a little bit of everything, so that was good
this is a good intro trip for new clients. It was all that it promised, and did not disappoint.
Great ride from Prague to Vienna
Our tour leaders, Jan and Hana made our trip from Prague to Vienna memorable. They were always nearby to help with any questions, bike issues, local information, and guidance. The locations were awesome including Cesky Krumlov, Passau, Melk, Durnstein, and Vienna. Biking through the Sumuva National Park in Germany was beautiful with an incredible lunch. It was the best potato soup that we have ever eaten. Biking along the Danube through the Wachau Valley is simply special and spectacular.

We learned so much about Bavaria and its people
We spent 14 days in Bavaria. The trip leaders, Jiri and Andrea were very generous in sharing their personal and family history particularly about the effect on Communism on them and their families..They were fun, attentive and professional at all times. Great tour leaders make the trip and they made the trip. The countryside was beautiful, the group very interesting but the weather was marginal. I can’t hold VBT responsible, but Jiri and Andrea were very flexible, changing plans as needed. It was not only allot of fun but we learned so much. Great travel changes people. This trip did that. We came home and immediately scheduled another trip for 2014.
Mary60, Chesapeake, VA
This was a great adventure. I loved all the towns & cities we visited!
Teddy, Wisconsin, USA
A very well run tour with great scenery and very good food.
I highly recommend this tour, including the pre and post trips in Prague and Vienna. The guides, Jiri and Andrea were very knowledgeable, technically competent and had good senses of humor. The logistics of the tour, including train, boat and bus transfers were very well handled and added value to the tour. The scenery, particularly along the Danube is a highlight. Although the weather caused some route changes, we were able to add alternate events.
The warm up ride route needs some adjustment and the directions could be improved. There were several tough hills on the 2nd day that could take this tour out of the easy category.
We are planning another VBT tour in 2015

Our cycling tour far exceeded our expectations. The leaders were excellent. Our destinations and cycling routes were interesting.
The level of cycling was as expected. Thank you so much.

no wonder this is one of VBT's most popular trips
Everything about this trip that figures into the enjoyment of a VBT trip was in place on this trip. Beginning with two of the finest guides we’ve ever had to the friendly people everywhere to the beautiful scenery to the good hotels and fine food I can’t imagine changing anything. Glad we were not a week later because the weather begins to be an issue. I have the best memories to keep of this trip.

Our Czech Republic, Germany and Austria bike trip was a wonderful experience from beginning to end! As independent travelers, we are not used to having everything taken care of and not having to find hotels and attractions! But the VBT guides did it all, and did it well. What a treat for us!! Our luggage handling, accommodations, most meals, bikes, routes and everything we needed was always top notch and on-time. Accommodations were in smaller hotels off the beaten track. Many were in centuries old buildings, but had all of the modern comforts we wanted after a day of riding. Meals were terrific, and the snacks provided on the stops along the bike routes were both welcome and great! Our guides were very knowledgeable, patient, and fun! No matter the problem, they were cheerful and full of solutions!
The bikes were great, and while we didn’t have any problems, we know that they would have been there with both a solution and good cheer! We had one day of cold and rain, and after 18 miles of riding, many of the group had reached their limit. Our guides arranged for taxi rides to the day’s destination for the great majority of our group. The biking through the countryside and along the rivers was fabulous! We experienced these countries in a way we would never have done on our town in a car or on a train.
Our group members were of all biking level, and the routes accommodated our differences. Overall, the biking was a little more difficult than we anticipated, but there were opportunities to make it easier. And it was well worth the effort! We would recommend this trip to anyone with a desire to see the real country and not just the tourist attractions in the large cities.

Wonderful trip with absolutely the best leaders!
This was my first VBT trip and it could not have been better. The itinerary was well designed and all the hotels were places I would go back to in the future. I was concerned about biking 6 days in a row but the beautiful countryside made the days fly by. Be sure to take the pre and post trips because those cities have so much to see. The leaders are so knowledgeable, professional and fun.

My family of four ranging from 24 t o 60 years old adventured on this trip together and everyone had a great time. The biking scenes were spectacular with mountain views. These were places that we may not have explored on our own. We also chose a few extra days in Prague at the beginning of the trip and wish we would have done it in Vienna at the end of our trip. The staff were great and the company was wonderful as we travelled during the flooding in Prague last year so they ensured that everything ran perfectly. Our family cannot wait to do another trip again!

Great trip for beer and wine lovers
We loved seeing Prague, cycling along the Danube, visiting Bavaria and drinking local beer and then ending up in Austria’s beautiful wine country where we were introduced to Gruner Vertliner, a crisp white wine. Our guides, two brothers, were top notch and gave us a real understanding of the local customs, like greeting cyclists with Ahoy (spelling probably different). The cycling was pretty easy (mostly flat) so we had no problems keeping up and did all the extensions available. A great experience, as always with VBT.

Highly recommend this trip.
Central Europe at its best, and the trip leaders reflected just that!
They were not only more than competent, I feel that they sincerely took care of us. Beautiful scenery, wonderful accommodation, enjoyable comraderie. I would highly recommend this trip.

Like biking through the Old World
This was a beautiful trip even though it rained at least a part every day! We still had some occasional sunshine, and nothing could dampen the wondrous sights of this incredible vacation. The pace was a little busy but very doable and I’ll never forget the feeling of riding through medieval villages and along the Danube. This was an “easy” rating but I will say there are some hills. The van is there for you if you don’t want to ride them. The leaders were wonderful.

Let it rain
Of my 11 VBT trips there is only one I’d rate higher. Surprising since it rained incessantly, rider and bike (still don’t like those Trek tanks, Gregg) filthy from gravel paths, and temperature rarely above 60 F. Accommodations at all five stops five star. Cesky Krumlov, Passau, and Weissenkirchen (2 nights each) utterly charming towns. Food not great, but as expected in this part of the world; beer wonderful! Would have liked more hills, but as advertised. Very compatible group of 20. One excellent guide and one “best guide ever.” She really made the trip. Clone her.

Perfect European Vacation
First VBT trip and I will definitely do more. Great opportunity to see 3 countries and bike on some amazing paths. Loved the planned tours interspersed during the trip and enjoyed the pre trip to Prague and really glad I chose that over Vienna. Austria was absolutely my favorite part of the trip.Beautiful country and I loved the inn in the Wachsau valley where we stayed. Trip guides were awesome and went out of their way to be accommodating. We were fortunate in that the weather was clear and sunny the whole time but the temperature a little warmer than usual which was fine with me. Yes, I would recommend this trip!

Grown Family of Five...All Smiles!
My wife and I wanted a memorable, carefree active vacation with our three grown children (ages 18, 21, 27). All 5 of us had a very busy, hectic year and really wanted to get completely away from our routine in a limited time frame (ten days). The Czech Republic, Germany and Austria trip exceeded all our expectations and then some. Easy smooth international travel plans, beautiful local lodging, engaging personable guides, great food, new friends, welcoming locals and comfortable rides with simply amazing scenery! The smiles on all our faces all week long still linger when we recall the trip. A truly worry free dream vacation. We’re looking forward to our next VBT Trip.

This Tour has a great variety
I think the variety of having guides for some touring and being on our own for other touring helped to make this a really great trip. The great guides also made the experience even better. We were blessed with great weather the entire trip. VBT covered just the right about of meals at the right time. Well done. I would highly recommend this trip, it was great fun and I learned a lot about this part of our world.

Tour is good, advertisements are relentless
The tour is mapped through lovely areas and the hotels were good quality. The Czech Republic and Germany and not foodie destinations, but ending in Vienna makes up for it at their many fine restaurants. The guides were knowledgeable, well prepared and very supportive in all aspects. I would recommend this tour. I would also recommend that you tell VBT that you do NOT want to receive the frequent advertisements that start to flood your mailbox once you inquire of them. Junk mail generation seems to be their other specialty..

This was our first VBT ride on their “most popular trip” and it was so absolutely perfect that we are already booking another ride. Everything from our pre-trip in Prague to cycling through villages, scenic countryside and biking along the Danube exceeded our expectations. Our guides Jan and Hana were incredible. They were so informative, helpful and fun that they made this an experience we will always treasure. If you choose to make this trip, you too will be glad you did.

Great riverside biking
I have taken many VBT trips and had heard that this was one of the best. While there are certainly MANY things to recommend this trip but there is one drawback that is uncommon to the rest of the trips I have been on. If that drawback matters to you then I would not recommend this trip.
The positives: Incredible scenery – Czech fields and castles, German forests and rivers, beyond charming Austrian villages. The biking was easy with only a few hills. Most biking was on paved paths except in Germany where it was packed gravel (a bit more challenging but fine and better for the environment). Hotels were clean and comfortable and had a sense of the local place.
The negative: A LOT of transfers. Day 1 is a 3 hour bus ride from Prague to Cesky Krumlov, Day 2 biking ends with another bus ride back to the hotel unless you want to do some very difficult biking (90% of our tour took the bus), Day 3 starts with a bus and then a 2 hour train ride, Day 4 was a “normal” VBT day to and from the hotel, Day 5 starts with a 2-3 hour boat ride and ends with another really long bus ride, Day 6 was hotel-short ferry-hotel. So only 1 day of biking does not involve a transfer. Because these transfers are timed, this trip does not have the lazy come and go when you want that I personally love about VBT schedules. I know it’s a lot of ground to cover and there’s probably no other way to do it but it’s something that I wished I had considered more carefully before booking this trip.

Thank you for your feedback. Because this tour is unique in the sense that we visit three different countries, it has more shuttling time than a VBT tour that only covers a small area of one country. However most of our travelers agree that the added benefit of combining so many cultures into one vacation is worth the additional shuttle time and have even mentioned how they enjoy the train and ferry transfers.
SHolden, Hastings-on-Hudson, NY, USA
Ahoj, what a way to see Central Europe!
This is our 3rd VBT trip. Like our other tours, everything was very efficient and went like clock work. Buses showed up when they were supposed to as well as pick-up vans. We also traveled by train, ferry, barge…what a way to cover three countries as well as get dropped off at the BEST areas for biking with scenic views galore, hillside paths that pass apricot groves, vineyards, white poppy fields, charming villages, forests, ruined castles, and of course, the beautiful blue Danube! Need I say more?!
We loved the accommodations and towns that we stayed in and riding through a variety of scenery found each day. No two days were alike. The rating of Easy was accurate. Besides a few short hills on the first couple of days, the rest of the week were easy rides…which allowed me to bike the longest ever each day on a bike trip.
Our tour leaders were exceptional. Zuzana and Tomas took very good care of our group, were fun-loving and flexible, and provided much information about this part of the world. One of our many perfect days was biking all morning, working up an appetite, and then coming upon Zuzana’s “picnic” lunch with a barbeque of all sorts of sausages and mustard and a variety of other food from the area. Sitting on picnic benches and washing our lunch down with cold local beer with our cohesive group of 20 was truly a fun and memorable moment!
We visited Prague as a pre-trip and were so glad that we did. That city is full of Old World charm, same with Vienna. The hotels in both cities were great, especially the hotel in Vienna, which showed marvelous customer service to our group (very welcoming and organized for us) when we arrived. Oh, it was great never having to stand in lines at any of the hotels; they were ready for all of us with the keys to our rooms. Our entire trip went off without a hitch, and we got to cover a lot of scenic area on this trip; VBT did it again with great planning and execution! If you can swing it, finish up your Central Europe tour with a visit to Budapest (via train from Vienna), which our friends did and also loved.
Terri, Newton, MA, USA
Loved this ride. The itinerary and leaders.
We have been on several VBT trips – this ranks among the great ones. We have now biked much of the Danube from Brataslava to Vienna. I cannot think of anything better. The guides were terrific as always with VBT, the villages and venues were superb. I cannot say enough about traveling through Europe on a bike with comfortable accommodations available at the end of each day.
We’ll be back!!!

Super time in Eastern Europe
My two weeks in Eastern Europe were wonderful. I was prepared for rain, but the weather was fantastic. I loved the two days in Prague on my own, as there was lots to explore and I loved the adventure. Wonderful restaurants and so much to see. History is incredible — so much older than our west coast. The biking seemed to be a bit more than “easy” to me, as there were more uphills than I was expecting on an “easy” ride. That was only a few days, however; and I think “easy” can be relative. But slower riders managed the hills, and the leaders and the group were good about keeping track of everyone. The trails in Germany were somewhat bumpy and gravelly, but they wound through the most beautiful country. If you know European strategy games, then you’ll get it when I say, it was like biking through a life-sized Carcassonne game. Really unforgettable. The only way I could leave each of the remarkable cities was to promise myself I would return. Well, realistically, it’s not likely, but the memories are indelible. Our group leaders made the trip even more enjoyable. Lots of laughs and generosity, always ready to support us with whatever we needed.
Elaine15, Washington State
A fun blend of various transportations! We were on trams in Prague, a train ride through the Czech Republic countryside, a riverboat cruise down the Danube, various bus transfers during the trip, and, of course, cycling! At the end we were reluctant to leave our guides!

As Usual, VBT Pulls Off Another Fantastic Tour!
This was our 4th VBT Tour and each was wonderful in its own way. First off, our guides could not have been more accommodating (Hana and Zuzana) and accommodations were excellent. Included dinner and lunch locations were often a special surprise (you need to go to find out why). The cycling was pleasant and not too much, and there were enough people on our tour where my husband and I could separate and ride with individuals of like abilities (my husband is a much stronger rider, so its nice for us to separate while riding and we enjoy the experience more…I’m not struggling to keep up with him, and he’s not doing circles around me). Once, I decided to ride alone, and one tour guide always takes up “the back,” so you don’t need to worry about getting lost. Personally, I consider most VBT trips as tours with cycling NOT cycling tours. The cycling is only a means to experience the local culture and ambiance at a different level. You can see, smell and experience life differently from riding a bicycle than from looking out of a car or bus. If you are an avid cyclist and want to ride at 20 mph for 50-100 miles a day, this probably isn’t the tour for you. There is too much to see and too many stops for a hammer fest. Also, some trails are on gravel, and NOT well-suited for a road-bike–especially when it rains out. Finally, on all the trips we have taken, VBT has always augmented their cycling tours with stops at key attractions with local tour guides blessed with enthusiasm and in-depth knowledge. Helmets off to VBT for the organization, our tour guides for their constant “American Smiles,” and the guides and folks in the hotels and restaurants that made this trip a great experience. My only comment to VBT: consider including tour guides on the pre and post trips,at least at an introductory level. VBT recommended a tour guide in Prague, Barbra, who was wonderful. We explored Vienna on our own. I do think that it might have been nice, especially for the pre-trip, to have a paid tour guide included with the trip. It would have given the group more time to get to know each other, as well as alleviating the details of finding a tour guide and paying for it separately.
Not the best VBT tour.
We have been on quite a few VBT tours. This trip was a real disappointment. The guides were good, but certainly not top notch or memorable. Too much biking in the “woods”. Accommodations were average snd pretty tired looking.
As VBT gets larger the quality seems to be slipping.

Thank you for your feedback. This departure’s Trip Leaders have a combined excellence rating of over 92% based on our traveler evaluations. Location is a big factor in choosing our hotels and the smaller boutique hotels on this vacation are rated the best in the regions we visit and are centrally located in each town or village. Many of our guests have sent us comments about how they enjoy the scenic cycling routes though farmlands, quaint villages and along the Danube on this tour—which is one of our most popular vacations.

Since this was my first trip I didn’t know what to expect. I was surprised how well run and organized the trip was. Everything ran smoothly with transportation, hotels, and biking. The pre and post trip was well worth the money. This trip is classified “easy” so anyone who knows how to ride a bike could take this trip without any worries. The guides were great and couldn’t do enough for you. They were there for your every need. The meals that were supplied were great. Every hotel supplied a good breakfast. I am planning on going on another VBT tour next year I just don’t know where I will go.

Wonderful memories and great friends
I took this trip with my father in August 2014. We had an incredible time making memories that will last forever. The tour leaders were phenomenal and I feel like I got a true, insider taste of the Czech Republic, Germany, and Austria. This trip exceeded my expectations!

This was our first bike tour and it was a wonderful experience in every way. The trip was well planned, the trip leaders and other participants were all great. Each day was better than the last.

Trip of a Lifetime
The itinerary, leaders, and accommodations couldn’t have been better. We learned so much about the culture of the Czech Republic due to our local and knowledgeable tour leaders.
Our favorite part were the two days in Cesky Krumlov which truly makes you feel as if you are on the set of a fairytale movie.
It would be hard to beat this outstanding bike tour!

Fantastic Family "Mystery" Trip
Our family of 6, with a son-in-law in tow, fully enjoyed every aspect of this adventure. When one of my daughters graduated from college, I would plan a family mystery trip geared toward the personality of the graduate. Since she is very physically active, a biking tour was the right choice and VBT provided a wonderful experience for us all; even the physically challenged. The food, the lodging, the bikes, the guides, our tour mates, and the scenery for this trip into 3 countries, could not be better. The pre-trip to Prague was also a time to adjust to the time change and get acclimated into the culture. I don’t know how I will top this mystery trip in the future; I guess it will have to be another VBT trip somewhere.
Weaver Family, Chillicothe, Ohio
Good guides on this trip. The routes were mostly on bike paths and off main roads. Riding through farming countryside, woods, and little villages along the Danube was most enjoyable, as was the boat trip on the Danube. Even the day we road in the rain for an hour or so was fun! The village where we stayed two nights was a great place in the early morning to be out observing real life — kids walking to school and men and women biking to the bakery for the day’s bread. Prague and Vienna are vastly different cities but both are great places to explore.
Linda J, PA, United States
Exceeded my expectations.
Every day, every hour we saw beautiful things! We extended our trip in the beginning in Prague and at the end in Vienna. Very glad we did. Two beautiful cities.
Great architecture, great food, great people. In between, we saw places, things, and countryside you can only see on foot, on a bike or perhaps a horse. Sometimes riding my bike on a very quiet morning through Sumava, or the grape region in Austria or along the Danube I thought I should pinch myself to prove I was not experiencing a beautiful dream! Our guides Tomas and Andrea were outstanding. They looked over us as guardian angels and saw to our every need.
Both also had a great sense of humor and seemed genuinely concerned that we enjoy every minute of our journey. And we did! Thank you VBT! We will definitely be traveling with you again.

An amazing adventure!
My wife and I had a wonderful time on the Czech Republic, Germany & Austria tour. Our guides were outstanding, and the food was consistently mouth-watering. We had a mix of unique stops along the way, ranging from a small family-owned farm to the culture of Vienna. We can’t recommend this trip more!

Magical cycling trip
A perfect trip in every way. Cycling through the Bavarian forest in Germany, along country roads in the magical Czech Republic, and amidst vineyards and hilltop castles and abbeys in Austria. Andrea and Thomas, our guides, paid attention to every detail, and were delightful, fun, and informative. Accommodations were top notch, and our guides were great with attending to my dietary restrictions (gluten free). Highlights of the trip included crossing the border from the Czech Republic into Germany on our bikes, at the site of the former Iron Curtain, eating a homemade lunch on the farm of a Czech family, a cookout prepared by our guides along the river, complete with grilled German sausage, and all the fixings.

The Guides made the trip
The two guides, Andy and Ian, were truly outstanding. They really made this trip a great experience. The daily discussions about the history and geography of the countries we visited was a real treat. The hotels and the food was excellent.

trip of a lifetime!
I have been a flight attendant for 31 yrs and traveled a great deal. This was the best trip you can imagine. I enjoyed the riding, the history lessons and the wonderful meals. Accomodations were very nice. I would go again in a minute!

Beautiful ride with world-class support!
Friends of ours did a VBT trip to Italy and raved about it, so we thought we’d try them, too. We chose the Czech Republic trip because of the varied locales and easy biking. We came away with this: top-notch leaders; nicely planned, beautiful routes; delicious food from start to finish, and an experience so well-organized that I was able to leave my brain behind. We didn’t have to think about anything. Now THAT’S what a vacation is all about. Outstanding, VBT!

Got the chance to visit 3 countries and 2 major cities that we had never been to previously. Riding was easy, the tour guides were excellent, food was very good and the other riders were very sociable.

Great Trip, Great People.
This was our third VBT trip. Our previous VBT experiences (Vermont, Arizona) were really great, but this was over the top! Beautiful scenery, wonderful new friends, fantastic lodging, amazing food, and a tremendous biking experience. Our guides Hana and Filip were knowledgable, extremely friendly, and always helpful and thoughtful. The biking routes, places to explore, train and boat rides were all well planned to provide an optimal experience.

This was an amazing adventure ! Biking through the countries and visiting the small villages accompanied by explanations of their cultures and history from our very knowledgable trip leaders was great. And then to stay at beautiful hotels and have the delicious country food was a bonus.
Our guides were knowledgable, patient, kind and fun. I have not one negative thing to say about this trip and certainly plan to take another.
No worries just be at the airport for departure and VBT takes care of the rest !

My husband and I have taken 5 VBT trips and all have been terrific. This trip offered outstanding exposure to 3 wonderful countries and the biking was scenic and varied. We loved our tour guides and felt that the trip activities and sightseeing options were very special.

Visiting Bohemia, Bavaria and Austria
Enjoyed every minute of the adventure of riding through the countryside and exploring the cities and villages we visited. The lunch at the local home in the Czech Republic was a real highlight, as well as, the experience of crossing a small foot bridge to enter Germany.

Czech republic, Germany & Austria
This was our first time in Europe & I’m glad we traveled with VBT! Our guides Jon & Andrea were the best people to present this beautiful area to our group of 19. They made sure we were informed, comfortable, well fed & happy at all times.
I can’t pick a favorite day because they were all my favorite days!

Train, Bus, Boat, and Bike
We just returned from this fabulous trip and at the first opportunity I wanted to write this glowing review. This trip had five outstanding qualities: beautiful scenery and route design, variety of landscape – forests, farmland, gentle hills, rivers, variety of travel – more than just biking – from a boat excursion on the Danube to taking a train and bus through the country side, superb hotels – each one was better than the previous one, and great trip leaders – Zusanna and Petr were knowledgeable, flexible, funny, and responsive to our needs. We can’t wait to sign up for our next

Great family trip with two adult children
We took this trip with two adult children. One was a strong rider and the other inexperienced (they made a cyclist out of her and she came home and immediately looked at additional trips!). They both had a wonderful time and enjoyed traveling with the group. This was truly the best way to see the small towns and countryside in the area. The guides, Andrea and Zuzanna were fantastic and accommodating to all.

Fabulous Bike Trip
This is one of the best vacations I’ve ever had! The leaders, the hotels, and the biking experience were beyond my expectations. We will definitely be going on another VBT biking vacation again.
KarenK, Livermore, CA, United States
This was our first tour group vacation and our first extended bike trip. We don’t like the idea of tours (or groups) typically, but this was great, and an amazing adventure we’ll always remember.Prague & Vienna were eye-opening, and all the little spots in-between were mind-blowing. Cesky Krumlov. Wow. What a place. Never heard of it before, and want to go back already. Got to the Cesky castle, the incredible Egon Schiele Museum, the riverside restaurant….but not the gardens! Must go back.
The amount of biking each day was just right-around three or four hours (25 miles?) broken up by beer breaks & meals & hanging out with new friends. And if that was too much, there was always the opportunity to van it back to the hotel. It was a freakishly hot July for the area (90 to 99 degrees HOT), but we pushed ourselves, and it wasn’t too much.
We are already planning next year’s trip.
Just returned from this tour and cannot say enough about the trip leaders, food, accommodations, scenery. I loved Cessky Krumlov in South Bohemia, where we were taken on a guided tour that focused on the history of the area. The trip leaders were knowledgeable, patient and just a lot of fun. Great memories!

Great Bike Trip!
My wife and I really enjoyed the VBT bike trip to the Czech Republic, Germany and Austria. What a beautiful part of the world — and one that is so biking-friendly! The biking routes, accommodations, and itinerary were all first class. We thoroughly enjoyed our fellow travelers, and our guides Jan and Andy were a lot of fun. They did a fantastic job making everything into a seamless and very memorable experience.
Kurle, Virginia, United States
All the hotels were interesting and beautiful. The food was great. We never had a bad meal. Particularly delicious were the ones sponsored by VBT. The guides were awesome, helpful, caring, knowledgeable. The rides were awesome, beautiful. Most fun ever. The bikes were great on the terrain. Perfect.

Great Trip, Great People!
Cesky Krumlov, Passau, and Wachau are beautiful towns in Czech Republic, Germany, and Austria which I would have never discovered on my own. Biking through the country side of these countries was the best way to experience them. Delicious food, beer, and wine! Accommodations were scenic and well located with staff that were very considerate of our group.
I went on this trip with my sister, we met wonderful people with whom we bonded with quickly and I hope to cross paths with again. Our trip leaders Jan and Andy were knowledgable, fun, and supportive to everyone in our group. It’s unfortunate life doesn’t come with a VBT support van.
I highly recommend this trip!

3 Countries, 2 Terrific Guides = 1 Happy Traveler
I’ve been all over the world – I’ve backpacked solo, been on guided tours, spent time in All-Inclusives, even indulged myself on luxurious cruises – but the VBT tour I just finished in July was far and away my best adventure yet!
Everything, and I mean everything, went as advertised – two terrific and professional guides, above average hotels, beautiful county rides, well-maintained bikes, a fun group of bikers, and the freedom to see sights off the daily routes.
VBT must mean Very Best Tours!

Great all around tour!!
This was my first VBT tour and definitely not my last! The tour leaders Jan and Andy were amazing! It was surprising how attached you can become to people you meet in a week! I hope to travel with them on future biking vacations! The scenery was spectacular and the smaller towns we got to visit would have gone unexplored if we had not been on a bike! Thanks VBT for an unforgettable vacation!

The Czech Republic, Germany, and Austria bike trip
The scenery was beautiful-castles, rivers, vineyards, and wild flowers were everywhere. The biking was easy with time to sightsee or your could choose longer options with harder bike routes. Biking through three countries really gave you an insider’s view of each country’s uniqueness and similarity to the other two. And the native guides really added to the authenticity of the experience.

Our third trip with VBT.
They keep getting better. The transportation, lodging, food and most of all our guides, Andi and Petr made this unforgetable.

Food and Accomodations
Unfortunately I have noticed in the past 2 trips (Croatia and The Czech Republic) that the number of meals included and the quality of the food has decreased considerably. I really feel that the VBT I have loved for years has been replaced with another company(merger). Family style meals have replaced ordering off a menu and quite frankly the food quality has taken a considerable nose dive. I feel I am qualified to rate this trip as we have participated in many trips. Accommodations in Cesky Krumlov were disappointng (dark and noisy). Your leaders (Tomas and Andrea) were the highlight of this trip. Very disappointed in the final meal/celebration: Food was fair and in past trips we at least received a bottle of wine for each table or 1 drink for final celebration. After years of encouraging others to participate in VBT trips (as they were the highlight of my very busy work year) II

Prague is such a beautiful city and a great place to start this trip. It was fun to cycle through the forest and over the boarder to Germany.

I have travelled over much of Europe and have done so with multiple travel groups. The VBT Czech, Germany, Austria tour was the finest I have ever experienced. Our guides were the best with whom I’ve ever experienced. The villages we visited were storybook in nature. I would do this again at the drop of a hat. Thanks VBT

Adventure, Food, New Friends, Fun!
This was our first no-kids vacation and a celebration of my husband’s retirement and we hit a home run in choosing VBT and this specific trip. We especially enjoyed learning about the local culture and the intimate access we had to villages we would have missed if on a larger tour or even in a private car. We will be back!

A Total Experience !
Not only was this visually gorgeous with rides along the Danube and stunning vistas of castles and art, but the intellectual experience of being in the heart of history with the insights from our guides made it especially satisfying.
Couldn’t have asked for a better group of active, interesting, engaged travel companions, including my surprise roomie. We both wanted to go single, but no single rooms were available so we both took a chance and it worked out great!
Terrific mix of culture and easy beautiful cycling
We had a great time. The scenery was excellent. We were very impressed with all the hotels, the location and the staffs. The add on of Prague was spectactular. We really enjoyed our guides and hearing there stories, particullarly time under communist rule. The cycling was terrific not many hills and excellent road surfaces. Overall a terrific vacation

Wonderful cycling tour!
We were very impressed with our group leaders! They truly worked hard to make this a very special trip for us! They made a personal connection with each of us on the tour and shared their knowledge of the countries we visited. Overall, we were very pleased with the care they took to make sure that all details were attended to.

Excellent tour for a taste of Europe
Great scenery and a variety of culture when you add in both the pretrip and post trip to make an amazing package that covers three countries. Our two Czech guides, both named Jan, did everything they could to accommodate our energetic group and provided lots of insite of the culture and areas that we visited. Also have to mention the great variety of food and the drinking opportunities for beer and wine! this is vacation!

This trip gave us the wonderful experience of seeing another part of the world and a special culture that was welcoming and captivating. We enjoyed big city, small village and beautiful countryside that we would probably have missed had we not been on this tour.

Cultural and active experience
One of my 2015 resolution was to take an active vacation and also have a trip to Europe in order to feed that culture hunger I was having since last time in 2006. So, I booked this trip to Czech Republic, Germany and Austria and it has been one of the best experiences I have had, so I fulfilled my cultural and active needs. Very well organized, guides well informed and supportive all time. I will do this for sure in the future to other VBT destinations
Luisana, Houston, TX, United States
Great towns to visit and experience.
This is an excellent trip made even better with excellent trip leaders. I should add amazing food, wine and beer too.
Mike B, Edmonds, WA, United States
Lovely scenery, great rides and great food too!
Nice variety, mostly on vehicle-free bike paths along two wonderful rivers. Interesting places to stay and good, albeit salty, food. Found some of the route notes confusing, and not enough pre-ride input from the guides.
Three Beautiful Countries
We had another great experience with VBT. Loved Prague and Vienna. We stayed in great hotels, took in beautiful views while biking. Traveling to three countries with trains, busses and ferries was also a fun way to explore and see all the sites up close. We had a private group so spending 2 weeks with 20 great friends was an added bonus.

A Ride in the Rain
A highlight of our trip was the ride we took on a chilly, drizzly afternoon on the bike path along the Danube River from Melk to Weissenkirchen, Austria. It was authentic and beautiful. Honest!

Exceeded My Expectations
This was a great trip, it greatly exceeded my expectations. The hotel accommodations were excellent. The tour guides were friendly knowledgeable and talented. I saw beautiful countryside and met lots of nice people both local and tourists.

Great Guides, Beautiful Surroundings, A Few Chills
I will be brief. We have gone on two earlier VBT tours in Italy and France. We thought Eastern Europe would be an interesting contrast. It was. Our guides Hannah and Peter were extremely hard working and conscientious and like all VBT guides so far, very “people wise” and patient. The weather was rainy and cold the first three days. Peter and Hannah rescued lost and shivering biker groups with good cheer and patience. The countryside was amazing and the accommodations just fine. This late season trip might have been scheduled a bit too late for good weather.
RHPrice, Ann Arbor, Michigan
The vacation was excellent. Every aspect of the trip was unique. Riding a bicycle in three different countries was great. I would recommend this tour to anybody. The tour guides were also excellent.

Beautiful scenery and quaint towns
Wonderful scenery, great people, very nice hotels. This was our first VBT trip and we’d recommend it to others. We chose to begin with the pre-trip to Prague and were happy we made that decision. So much to see. However, we did choose an October week, and the weather was very challenging. Quite cold the whole week(our first long ride was 30 degrees) and we unfortunately also had rain. We enjoyed our guides, Peter and Hannah who were fun, helpful, informative and on top of everything. The scenery on our last ride may have been the best – riding along the Danube passing vineyards and orchards. A suggestion to VBT would be to improve on some directions, adding more landmarks.

Beautiful trip and countryside
Great scenery on this ride. Our weather in mid Oct. was pretty chilly and drizzly but we still enjoyed it all. I’ve been on 4 other VBT trips and this is a really pretty scenic ride along the Danube.

Amazing trip, great guides and scenery
This was my first trip on VBT and I have been wanting to do one of their rides for nearly a decade. Let me start off by saying that I was a solo traveler though so my experience might be different than others. Overall, this trip was a wonderful adventure from the moment I got off the plane in Prague. The person who met us at the airport was local and very well-informed. I did both the pre-trip in Prague and the post-trip in Vienna. The group I was with consisted of 7 couples and 3 other solo travelers. Such a great group! The guides, Bodhi and Hana were top-notch, funny, personable and their attention to detail was an 11/10. They could not have been more welcoming, charming or professional while at the same time being fun!
The pre-trip in Prague, for a solo traveler was fantastic. Was able to tour great castles, walk the streets and pop into pubs, restaurants and museums that I had only read about. The local people were wonderful, mostly everyone spoke English and it was a time I will never forget.
We were picked up at the hotel on day 3 by the original guide and shuttled to meet our regular guides. Scenic bus ride through the Czech countryside. Very fun.
First day with Bodhi and Hana we stayed in an old monastery. Nice set up and the food was very good while in Czech Republic.
Every ride from the first to the last was great. Easy, flat (except for one hill in Germany!) and just amazing to be riding a bike across what used to be parts of the former Soviet Bloc, barge on and ride along the Danube and stop in picturesque villages a thousand years old! I even had a chance to jump a train and hit Oktoberfest one day while in Germany!
If I had to say anything negative about this trip – and here’s why I gave it only 4 Stars – it were the accommodations for me as a solo traveler. Listen, I understand we are not staying in a Marriott in the USA whereby every room is the same for every guest. However, it was soon apparent that as a solo traveler I was put in the smallest of rooms with a twin bed (90% of the time and in one room in particular I could stretch out my arms and almost touch the walls!) and usually on a main floor next to either the front desk, hallway or in one instance, my room was actually off the cobblestone stairwell and I heard every guest and their banging luggage traipsing up and down the stairs (no elevator). Moreover, the couples on my trip were given large rooms (or even suites) with views of rivers, mountains, vineyards or the city. Every one of my rooms had a view of a roof, alleyway or the street. It was the running joke of our group that I would inevitably get the worst room at the next stop… and I did. Certainly not what you expect when you pay a lot extra for being a solo traveler with your own room. Not that I spent a lot of time in my room mind you but with the jet lag from coming all the way from the West Coast, it was hard enough to acclimate without being constantly woken up by street noise, guests in the stairwell or front desk check-in.
Again, let me just say that this trip was beyond spectacular and I recommend it hands down! Heck, I’d even do it again in a heartbeat but next up is a different continent. 🙂

Tourism at its best
This tour takes you in and out of tourist hot spots for an experience of the beauty and culture that is a part of the Czech Republic, Germany and Austria. This is my second VBT tour and first out of the US – Their reputation for excellence in tour guides, cuisine, history and culture, lodging and oversight of detail continues to be extraordinary. The biking is supreme – Started out as a trip for myself and an adult daughter – and my other two adult children joined in. All three say it was a 5-star. Looking forward to our next one!
Robin Farris, Springfield, MO, United States
This was my 4th VBT trip and although not a favorite I did enjoy it very much. I have never had a complaint about the hotels on any of my previous trips until this one. At each of the hotels there were issues with the showers/tubs and the WIFI was subpar to say the least in most of the hotels making it difficult to communicate with out family in the US. I would not consider the hotels to be 4 or 5 star rated. The guides were GREAT and we had so much fun. I did enjoy the various types of travel on this trip-bike, boat and train. The history was interesting and the sights were beautiful.
Response from: Customer Service
Thanks for the 4 star review! We will work with the hotels to make any possible improvements.

This trip will be remembered, not only for the biking, but for the variety of transportation modes used – train, boat and bus. The very best of three countries were showcased. And, as with all VBT trips, accommodations, meals and guides were “par excellence.”

Loved the Adventure
Just finished our 5th VBT Trip and looking forward to 6th. Trip leaders, countries, hotels and food were all top notch. Loved the boat ride down the Danube and the local people were charming and appreciated our visiting their cities and towns. We did the pre and post trips and recommend both.

3 Amazing Countries with outstanding Guides
What an excellent opportunity to visit some of the most picturesque & little known areas (by those in our group anyway) led by 2 of the most engaging, knowledgeable, patient, & all round good guys who were our cultural & biking leaders. We had a great group to travel with & that made the experience much more enjoyable. Added features were the Danube cruise, and rail travel that shuttled us to a new trail &/or country. Highly recommend this biking trip. Too recent of a return to be able to add trail pictures.

Great variety of venues!
We just returned from the VBT tour to Czech Republic, Germany and Austria. The Prague pre-trip gave us just the right amount of time to explore this vibrant city. The bike trip was beautiful, with much riding along the Danube. We stayed in wonderful small towns. Hotels and food were excellent, and our guides were unbelievably kind, knowledgeable, and flexible. We saw quite a bit on our last day in Vienna. I am looking forward to booking another VBT tour!

So much to see and do... Not enough time!
Planes, Trains and Automobiles… well, not exactly! Lots of territory covered in our 6 days of biking, some of which included travel on a train, bus and river boat on the scenic Danube River. Other highlights: crossing border from Czech Republic into Germany, biking along the Danube River, and of course, Český Krumlov and Prague. Loved the trip, but only wish we could have spent a bit more time on our bikes.
John Hawley, Owings, MD, United States
Planes, Trains and Bike Ferries too!
Great trip! Never a dull moment! Prague was absolutely beautiful, as were all of the cities and towns we visited on this trip. The train trip Nova Pec was absolutely the best… and the bike trail (Iron Curtain Trail) was breathtaking. Czech border crossing memorable; memories of days gone by. This was an easy ride, even for the novice bicyclist. What better way to visit 3 countries in Europe!
John Hawley, Owings, MD, United States
So much fun!
This was our first VBT tour but it won’t be our last! We had amazing guides- Bodhi and Jan, and the biking was spectacular. Accomidations were very comfortable and the towns and villages we visited were beautiful.

Wonderful Mother-Daughter Trip
This VBT bicycling trip through the Czech Republic, Germany and Austria was a belated college graduation gift for my daughter. And it ended up being a perfect gift. At least once a day we would smile at each other and say “best trip ever.”
Some favorite experiences: lunching at a Czech farmhouse, cycling through the Sumava Park, poking in and out of touristy shops while looking for the “just right” pair of amber earrings, photographing wildflowers in the misty rain, breakfasting on the veranda of our Passau hotel, climbing St. Michaels church tower to view the picturesque Wauchau Valley, purchasing fresh made apricot jams from a roadside stand, enjoying a wine garden dinner with members of tour group, and seeing works by painters my daughter studied in her art history class.
Our tour guides, Tomas and Andy, were wonderfully professional, knowledgeable, and fun.
Would we take another VBT cycling tour? In a heartbeat!

Exceeded my expectations
This was my 4th VBT trip and it was better than I expected. I loved the diversity of the areas we visited and the different modes of transportation. The train ride and boat ride added a nice mix to visiting beautiful these three beautiful countries. The bike paths were great and the scenery was amazing.

Great trip with some wrinkles
Having just returned from a fun trip …I must point out a few things that I was not told before booking my trip. #1 you may be better off booking your own airfare…VBT did not do a good job, in my opinion. They do not act as a good travel agent would when it comes to airfare. #2 Many of the rooms did not have AC…would have been nice to know up front. #3 Some rooms were not very nice….others were awesome. #4 the first two days are not easy biking and some in our group had some issues. the trip should not be labeled “Easy” at least not with out some comments regarding the first couple of days. First day problems with route directions and biking in a lot of traffic Second day some very steep hills!
Having said that……our guides Andrea and Hannah were super amazing and fun to be with in out travels. They were knowledgeable and could not have been more pleasant and enjoyable!
We loved Prague, Cesky Kromolov, Passau and Wiesenkichen(sp)! The bikes were great and our guides could make adjustments and repairs quickly.
Walter, St. Louis, MO, United States
Great way to see countryside
Loved our first trip with VBT! Great itinerary, food, companions and guides. Filip and Thomas were wonderful guides. I highly recommend this trip and am looking forward to booking our next VBT trip!

Great experience to visit 3 countires in a 10 day period.
Enjoyed the trip, biking was good even on gravel paths. Andrea and Tomas were excellent leaders. Especially likes the last town, Weissenkirchen, because it was quaint and not crowded and touristy as the others.
As usual the, what makes the trip would be the guides. Thomas and Peter were
fantastic and made every ride an exciting experience. Their local history knowledge and recommendations were very good. We loved every minute of the ride.

Good introduction to 3 countries
A paced introduction to 3 countries with some biking interspersed. A good first glimpse of these countries. If you are a more experienced traveler this immersion may not be deep enough to satisfy you, but it was a pleasant time with engaging guides and guests.

Terrific Guides and Locations
This was my first biking trip ever. I did not know what to expect and had a few shaky moments in the saddle but the overall route with major cities and rides planned (with picnics) along the Danube, through picturesque villages, was great.

Wachau Valley rides were amazing
Really enjoyed the scenery on this trip. I have taken about 8 VBT bike trips in the past 4 years. Therefore, I am a loyal customer and will continue to travel with VBT. The best part of the trip was cycling in the Wachau Valley past vineyards and through the small villages. However, we never visited a winery there and that was a real shame. I also love biking beside the river. Picnic was fantastic. The hotels were generally nice, but the internet did not always work, the a/c was not turned on and we needed it, and many hotels did not have in room coffee/tea. Breakfasts were great in all hotels. Included dinners were nice and we love the locations. The negatives for biking are the two days biking on gravel, which is annoying and bumpy. The pre trip hotel was too far from the action in Prague, and the hotel staff and Barbara were not at all helpful booking tours/tickets. The post trip hotel in Vienna had a wonderful staff who helped us with everything.

Like walking into an illustrated fairy tale!
This VBT tour stands out for its variety–buses, river cruises, and train rides complement the magical daily bike rides through fairy tale villages, enchanting woodland pathways, and bike paths along the iconic Danube. Pair that with the standard VBT experience of making new friends and participating in a community of like-minded folks who love learning and having fun together, and you have a truly memorable vacation!
dorotheaB, New York
We participated in a private group with some old and some new friends. It was great even though we had several days of wet weather to start and a switch out of guides due to an issue unrelated to us.

Each day’s route was better than the last. Which is remarkable because each route was fantastic.

A pleasure from beginning to end
My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed this trip. Everything was first class –the hotels, the meals, the bikes, our VBT guides. Itinerary included beautiful scenery and interesting towns along the way.

outstanding in every way
The bicycle trip was outstanding in every way, and was
enhanced by the extension options in Prague and Vienna.
The leaders, Filip and Bohdi was amazingly well informed
and always made sure that all participants were accounted for
at all times. No one ever got lost. Smaller accommodations were especially
attractive and the food hearty and generous. I wish I had
known in advance about the E bike option. It would have made
the hills and inclines less challenging. Ken Irvine

our favorite vbt trip to date
We have taken multiple VBT vacations, but my wife and i both agreed that this ranks right up there as our favorite. The biking was spectacular…unlike our trip last year to Spain (Costa Brava) on this trip most of the biking took place on bike paths without cars. The routes were very well planned, varied day to day, and never got boring. We tried e-bikes for the first time and loved them…on Day #2 the afternoon optional ride had a few fairly steep and long climbs, and with the ebikes it was no problem…we will defintely use them on future vbt vacations. The guides (as always) were terrific. All of the hotels were quite good, and the pre and post trip extensions were well worth it. For any future travelers who choose this trip, i’d like to leave a few restaurant recommendations…in Prague, 2 short blocks north of the hotel is Lavande…we liked it so much we went back a second time…mostly locals, not touristy, very good food. South of the hotel (2 bridges down) is Pastar…again more of a local place, excelent meal. In Vienna we would recommend EF16, a short 10 minute walk from the hotel, not typical austrian fare…we liked it so much went back a second time.
This trip had much variety…boat ride down the danube…train ride…and great cities (cesky krumlov, passau, prague, vienna)
in conclusion, we loved this trip. you will too. give it a try; you won’t be disappointed.

No flaws at all!
A wonderful experience in every way. It was our first trip with VBT, and I am amazed at the quality of our guides, Jan and Filip. They were funny, knowledgeable, organized, helpful and relaxed. Great guys! The rides were beautiful and just what we wanted on this sort of trip. Fun to meet like-minded people. Perfect!
Newbie, Idaho, United States
We had a wonderful trip. The guides, Petr and Tom were fantastic. Knowledgeable, personable, and fun! They gave us a sense of Czech pride and shared their passion for their country. The sites were fantastic, the terrain varied (and never horribly challenging) and we traveled by bus, train, and boat as we traveled about. Almost all of our riding was on trails – not streets. There were some gravel paths, but the bikes handled them easily. Some hotels did not have air conditioning- people in the area’s homes did not either. The group meals were good-the last dinner absolutely amazing. The trip was a wonderful combination of culture, exercise and fun. I would highly recommend it. We added on the pre-trip extension in Prague, and were really glad that we did that.

Beautiful Places and Great Exercise
We enjoyed this trip immensely. There were days that I wouldn’t characterize as “EASY” but I am not an experienced cyclist either. The rides were wonderful, the hotels charming and comfortable (Air conditioning would’ve been nice in Cesky Krumlov but we had a surprising warm couple of days there..) Our guides were fun and considerate. The organized meals were outstanding! We will remember this fondly forever and have already discussed our next VBT trip.
Kam and Randy, Boise, ID, United States
I loved every minute. The people in the group, the leaders, the food, the boutique hotels and all the beauty that surrounded us everyday
Margaret C, Hingham, MA, United States
This was our second trip with VBT, our tour guides Petr and Philip were excellent, very knowledgeable, friendly and helpful. The rides were relatively easy with great scenery, a lot of the ride was along the Danube. There was limited air conditioning in the hotel rooms, but the fans kept the rooms cool. Overall it was a great trip and I would recommend it highly, if you could do the excursion to Prague beforehand well recommended. There is a lot to see in Prague and things are very inexpensive and the food is very delicious.
Jonathan and Alyssa, Boston, MA, United States
Really great trip
This is a really excellent trip, starting with time in Prague, a beautiful city to visit and ending in Vienna, another beautiful city to visit. In between, we biked through the Czech countryside and forests, into Germany and along the Inn and Danube rivers in Germany and Austria, passing though villages with 1000 year old churches stopping to visit them. The biking was mostly easy with a few hills over the first four days. The last two days were along the Danube and were pretty flat but very enjoyable.

Exploring vineyards and villages from the seat of
We are repeat VBT travelers and embrace the idea that the best way to experience local culture is from the seat of a bicycle. We pedaled from Cesky Krumlov to Weissenkirchen through Bohemian forests into the Wachau wine valley passing through the fairytale towns that dot the landscape. With each new day we saw medieval ruins, red rooftop mountain villages, and Renaissance church spires. The GPS guided us flawlessly throughout the 180 Km cycling journey that VBT stitched together with rural train rides, guided walking tours, and a Danube River cruise. This was our first pre and post trip adventures and we truly felt pampered like Habsburg royals.

Beautiful Scenery and a Sporty Ride
I’m hooked on VBT! This trip was fabulous, from my first impressions of Prague, to Filip’s Bavarian grilling and Petr’s daily briefings. Our rides through the rolling hills between Cesky Krumlov and Weissenkirchen were fun (the extensions were DEFINITELY sporty, for those wanting an extra challenge!); perhaps challenging for true novices, and interesting enough to keep avid cyclists engaged, too.
Melk Abbey and the Wachau Valley were true highlights. VBT – I’ll be back!
ASTOUNDING SCENERY and SMALL TOWNS
This was my first VBT Vacation and I am addicted! I look forward to many more. The entire trip was seamlessly handled by the VBT Leaders. The towns, trails, river and people were amazing. It was one of my best vacations.

Amazing trip...great people, countries, biking!
This was our first bike tour and it lived up to all our expectations. The trip leaders were so fun and knowledgeable, and the areas we saw were beautiful. The combination of biking and sight-seeing was just right, and everything was as it was represented by VBT. We loved this trip and will definitely ride with them again!

We had a wonderful time biking in Germany, Austria and the Czech Republic! The trails were scenic and just difficult enough. Our guides provided support and answered questions cheerfully. We loved our trip!

Beautiful scenery, safe car free bike trails, awesome guides, delicious food, and fun traveling companions. Can’t ask for much more.

Best Vacation Ever!
As one who organizes and plans events for a living, this trip was professionally planned and carried out with many special and unique touches. We were worry free! Everything was taken care of beautifully. Guides were AWESOME and those on our tour group were a lot of fun. I was concerned whether or not I could do the biking and with an Ebike that I barely needed, I found myself quite relaxed and able to not only enjoy each day but do the long option with ease. The hotels were lovely, the food delicious, and the places we toured…amazing!

September 2nd 2017
The E bike is the way to go. Quite hilly, I would not call this an easy trip but the E bike made it doable for me. Guides were great, very accommodating. The new GPS works like a champ. VBT provides a cell phone holder for your bike which fits pretty much any phone you have. Weather was chilly (the way I like it). 50-70 Fahrenheit. Prague is a beautiful city and I enjoyed it more than Vienna. Our group consisted of 20 folks plus 2 guides.
Everything expected and much more
Incredible historical, cultureal and physical experience. Add to that the most personable and competent guides and you have and incomprable trip. If one was to do only one venture into old Europe….I would certainly recommend this adventure. I am looking forward to the Scandanvian trip which will also be led by Bohdi.

Well organized, well executed trip!
Every detail was carefully executed leaving us to enjoy our biking. Hotels were good. Guides were great. If I had to change anything, I’d eliminate the group dinners, except for the first night.

Well organized trip
Great trip, very well organized with very interesting locations. The trip leaders, Hana and Petr made the trip special, enthusiastic and caring.
Phill, Chesterfield, St. Louis, MO, United States
Many of the days were long rides that did not encourage stopping to enjoy the local scenery, villages, people, food and beverages. It became a job not a fun ride.
An e-bike would have made the experience more fun!!!
Marcia 72, California
Could have been better
The trip was a disappointment. Yes, there were highlights and the guides were nice but they failed miserably in taking care of riders in the back of the pack. We only found out that we could have had an e-bike after we left the Czech Republic and they were no longer available, big mistake. Some of rides were fun, Passau along the Inn River and the ride to and around Melk, and others were longer and not a lot of fun. I truly feel that if the e-bikes had been offered after the first ride or 2, the trip would have been far better.
Ron 75, Santa Rosa, CA, United States
I thoroughly enjoyed this cycling vacation through southern Czech Republic, Bavarian area in Germany and the Wachau Valley of Austria. Cycling through the countryside is a wonderful way to experience local culture and history. Our guides, who both provided outstanding service and attention to detail, shared historical and cultural information that truly enriched the experience. I found the balance of active cycling and free time to explore the areas just perfect.

Great adventure shared wit wonderful people
This was my first VBT experience. I joined as a single person. The places we saw were beautiful, the cycling was great, the equipment was in great condition, and the accomodations exceeded expectations. What made the trip special was the people. The group was enthusiastic, positive and welcoming, i made long time friends. We all made sure we’d meet for dinner for the added extension days. Our guides were funny, competent, caring and made everything seem seamless although they were working very hard to ensure we had a wonderful time. Many people in our group were return customers, some up to 14 times. After this experience, I understand why, I will be a return customer

Exceeded all my expectations!
The cycling was spot on — enough to allow you to enjoy the gorgeous country-side vista’s, castles, and villages but not exhausting. The Prague pretrip hotel was easy walking distance to wonderful city center. Each day was a treat for the senses from the beauty of these three countries, the food, the cultural stops and history! Cherished Memories!

This was our first VBT tour and it will not be our last. Such a fabulous adventure. It was well organized, our trip leaders Tomas and Tomas were great and I can not imagine that it could have been any better.

We had an excellent trip. Both our guides were from the Czech Republic. They were thoroughly knowledgeable, enthusiastic, attentive to our every need, and patient with slower riders. Every aspect of the trip was carefully choreographed. Each morning, our guides briefed us on the day’s ride- indicating tricky turns, landmarks, and lunch options. The mid-morning and post-ride snacks were delicious.
I found the trips “easy” rating accurate. There were very few hills and every day the short route was easily manageable even for someone who rarely cycles. If you are relatively fit you should have no problem.
The bike routes were carefully chosen, passing through amazing countryside and dense forests. The voice GPS navigation system made it easy to stay on course and saved you the hassle of following a map. I chose a hybrid bike and I’m glad I did as some of the routes were on cobblestone streets and gravel paths.
The highlight of the trip for me was in the Wachau Valley. Biking through fragrant vineyards and old, well preserved villages were amazing. Baroque and Gothic churches were everywhere.
One should be aware that this trip involves quite a lot of travel by bus, boat, and train between bike routes. We spent 2 nights at each inn. However, every other day, we spent considerable time en route. For more enthusiastic bikers who want more time cycling, you may want to choose another trip.
Overall- an EXCELLENT trip.

Fabulous First Timers VBT Trip!
My wife and I rank this trip as one of our best vacations ever! The mixture of beautiful scenery, moderate exercise and great guides made this a special trip. Jan and Filip, our guides, were great leaders and always took care of us…being patient and helpful and always available! Riding was easy with some small hills. Hotels were great. The GPS system made following our routes easy! The train ride and the boat trip were nice additions to the cycling. Crossing the Czech border into Germany and seeing the remnants of the Iron Curtain was a special moment. Riding the banks of the Danube and the Inn Rivers created memories that will last a lifetime!

Czech/Germany/Austria - great combination!
This trip was my first VBT experience – winner! The combination of three countries with a pre-trip to Prague was a great itinerary. We experienced big city culture and history along with tremendous biking and scenic enjoyment. Would recommend this trip for breadth of travel and variety in experiences.

Nice itinerary, well mapped out with lots of options for exploration — and a good way to see some of the best of three countries. There was something here for everyone. Trip leaders Tomas and Jan were terrific. Based on this trip and the others that were just as enjoyable, we’ll continue to choose VBT!

Best trip ever
Great trip all around. Liked using an ebike. The personal and historic perspective from guides was fantastic.

As always, VBT trips are rider friendly and filled with interesting additions. Not only did we cycle, we also took a train and a riverboat through locks. The accommodations were spectacular and the food delicious! Best vacations are always with VBT. This was my 11th trip! Number 12 (Viet Nam) coming soon!

The pre and post trip cities are well worth the visit. Cycling is mostly flat and there are two days of mostly packed gravel paths. Cesky Krumlov is a beautiful town. If you do this trip explore the outer edges just away from the crowds. Passau hotel is right on the Danube river. Overall this is a great tour. Longer ride options would be an improvement.

Beautiful & Fun Trip
Very well organized trip. The leaders were on top of everything, making sure all details were taken care of. Beautiful bike paths along the Danube River – interesting villages and cities to explore. And delicious food and new friends.

My friend called my pictures like those in a storybook, and she was absolutely right! The hotels were unique, historic, yet renovated for modern amenites. The villages we biked through were quiet and picturesque. We visited several UNESCO Heritage Sites. VBT makes the experience local and authentic. The group dinners were wonderful. Our group was exceptionally wonderful to ride with. I could ride with faster or more relaxed riders depending on how I felt. I never felt alone! That is a great relief for someone a bit older and not quite as fit as I should be. The GPS directions are an incredible tool to get around. Our guides were caring and quite entertaining. They make the trip more fun and comfortable! This was my second VBT trip. The Bike and Barge in Holland was just as special. The pretrip in Prague was exciting. Our hotel was centrally located on the river. I recommend VBT for an active trip where you experience the local culture with tons of support every step of the way. The trips are planned but not overly so. There was still plenty of time to explore on your own – if you wanted. And I loved the fact that we traveled by comfortable bus, train and most importantly – by boat down the Danube!!!! Thanks so much!

VBT trip is a winner again
What a wonderful trip! The biking was enjoyable, beautiful and full of local culture to explore along the way. Lots of cultural experiences offered with this trip-

Natural beauty, a learning experience, a delight
The bicycling was as easy as rated with gentle paths through a national park and along the side of the Danube. There were ample opportunities to learn about the lives of people in these countries and traveling with like-minded VBT adventurers was to share a wonderful vacation with a group of new friends.

Wonderful trip to Europe
Wonderful trip. Excellent tour leaders. We loved the bicycle rides, the ride along the Danube, the fun train ride in The Czech Republic, great food, really nice hotels.

Great Rides, Great Guides, and Great Views!
Andi and Jan were great guides and were a lot of fun to spend the week with. Some of the rides were a bit more challenging than a moderate rating might suggest but they were still doable even for this out of shape rider. The views were spectacular and it was a memorable experience to be able to stay in historic hotels in each town. If traveling in summer, be sure to pack appropriately as the historic hotels are charming but do not have air conditioning. If you are looking for old world charm this tour if packed full of it! VBT is definitely the best way to see the world!

Spectacular Trip - VBT takes care of everything
This was a spectacular trip with really outstanding guides. We biked beautiful routes with little or no traffic, saw great scenery, and were well taken care of the whole time. A VBT representative met me at the airport and brought me to the hotel. Our guides on the trip were so so wonderful – fun, funny, attentive, and helpful. The bikes, food, accommodations were all wonderful.

Picturesque! Biking along the Danube!
Wonderful guides that were knowledgeable about the bikes, routes, culture of the area and the multiple languages needed, Czech, German and English.
My husband discovered he did not pack a medication he needed to take on a daily basis, and Jan responded in a calm knowing manner. We were able to obtain the medicine after the ride of the day, and be able to continue on with the trip without any worries!

A Bike Path Through History!
We’ve taken several VBT trips, and this one stands out for trails that took us along the Danube, through vineyards and forests, and into picture-postcard towns and villages. The paths we biked also took us through history from the Austro-Hungarian Empire to the more recent German and Soviet occupations. The bike path alongside the Iron Curtain was particularly poignant.
In late May, the weather was hot and our hotels had no air conditioning. Not fun! And our tour guides were less enthusiastic and organized that our fomer VBT guides. Even so, my husband was impressed with how well-tuned the bikes were, much better than on previous trips.

Another excellent VBT trip.
This was our 5th VBT Tour in the last 5 years. Every trip we have been on has been unique, which is what we expect. While they do follow a formula that works (variety of hotel types, 2 nights in each town, optional rides, great team leaders) there was much diversity in our travel modes between villages which we loved.
We recommend the pre-trip to Prague. We loved the location of the hotel, just across the river from the center of the old town and within walking distance of the must see Charles Bridge but in a much quieter location away from the crowds. Highly recommend a local restaurant two blocks north of the hotel called Lavande. Great food and where the locals eat, not the tourists. The local guide that picked us up at the airport was very thorough in explaining options for sightseeing, transportation, food to help us for the next two+ days.
Upon arrival in Cesky Krumlov for two days of biking we were met by our leaders Filip and Jan. While they looked young (well, much younger than us!), they were very experienced and worked great as a team. Warm up ride was great once we got out of the town (we were there mid-August, a very busy time for this Unesco site). Local lunch at a farm was fantastic as was the tour of the town by Stan.
Some of our previous trips did not involve any form of transport from town to town except by bike but this one did. Thoroughly enjoyed getting on the train in CK and seeing dozens of families on the track with their bikes going with us to the national park where we were to bike from the Czech Republic to Germany.
Scenery was beautiful through the forest and the ride was easy. There was a gravel path for the afternoon which made a few people nervous but all in all was very manageable (unless you like to speed). Passau was charming and even though it is on the Danube where lots of tour boats stop, we felt like we had the college town to ourselves. The next day’s ride along the river Inn was again pretty easy and very scenic. Take the time to stop and view the churches as they are true historic buildings.
A trip down the Danube was relaxing and scenic and our bikes were waiting for us when we arrived for another easy scenic ride along the Danube. Our arrival in the Wachau Valley at the small village of Weissenkirchen was fairy tale. From being greeted by the owner/hostess to a lovely room with AC, from the honor bar in the wine cellar to the gelato stand, it was easy to settle in for two more days. Our bike paths in this village were through vineyards, orchards, more small villages, and included a ferry ride across the Danube back to the hotel. Our leaders hosted a lovely dinner in a converted wine cellar. I will mention that we experienced one of the worst heat waves (according to the locals everywhere we went). To no fault of VBT (as this was not expected and not the norm) we did face a few challenges in two of the hotels that didn’t have AC. But it led me to swim in the Danube to cool off and even a dip in the organic pool at the hotel. Fabulous memories, competent leaders, friendly group of bikers, good food, beautiful scenery – what more could one ask for. Thanks VBT, you did it again.

A Broad Cultural Sampling!
Let me start with explaining why I am giving this four instead of five stars. The trip
Let me start with explaining why I am giving this four instead of five stars. The trip is more of a fantastic cultural experience than a fantastic biking experience. The trip takes you from Prague in the Czech Republic through Germany and into Austria, ending up in Vienna. It does so following the river valleys and along the Danube river. A terrifically broad cultural sampling!
Since there’s so much distance between destinations, there are many transfers on buses, trains and even river boats. The logistics of getting the group from point A to B would seem to be daunting, but the VBT leaders made it seem effortless.
That said, the biking was relatively flat and simple. From a biking experience, only the last day’s rides near a small town in Austria were visually unique and breath-taking. The rest of the trip’s biking routes were certainly good, but nothing like some of the other VBT trips I’ve taken. So if you want super-super-scenic vistas, this isn’t your trip. (Try their Dolomites trip!)
From a cultural viewpoint, this trip was very unique and satisfying. Our pre-trip stay in Prague was absolutely memorable— it’s just a beautiful city where even the ‘average’ buildings are architectural works of art. We found some great restaurants on our own and enjoyed the people and the sights. We were given transit passes, but we walked all over the city. Very accessible!
The actual bike trip starts with a several hour bus ride to Czesky-Krumlov, an ancient city far south of Prague. There, our hotel accommodations were anything but great. Indeed our room was so small that we weren’t living out of a suitcase, we were living IN a suitcase. And there was no air-conditioning to boot! That was a singular low point in our trip.
Having done a number of VBT trips, I’ve noticed that the first hotel often seems to disappoint. The first dinner does as well. (Perhaps it’s some formula that VBT uses with increasingly better accommodations as the trip progresses. We’re repeat VBT customers, but that first destination’s hotel on most trips can feel to be more of an ‘adventure’ than a vacation.)
Czesky-Krumlov is true medieval/renaissance era town, but it has been transformed into a tourist trap that has the look of something out of Disneyland. It’s packed with tourists and tourist shops. It was interesting and OK if you like that sort of thing. We did a short warm-up ride the first day and a country-side ride on the second day with a VBT-supplied lunch at a farm which was a very enjoyable experience.
Leaving Czesky-Krumlov there was another bus ride and train ride and we started biking to Passau, Germany. It’s a relatively easy, rolling ride through pretty deep forests and countryside. We passed the border between the Czech Republic and Germany (where we see a remnant of the electrified fence that separated the old communist Czechoslovakia from Germany) It was a nice ride and good day. Some of the paths were on gravel.
Our accommodations in Passau were very nice (no air-conditioning) and the city-town along the Danube was culturally fascinating. Our time in Passau included rides along the Danube and a barbecue lunch prepared by the leaders. We went into Austria and back. Some great restaurants and sights to be found in Passau. We loved Bouillabaisse restaurant for dinner.
Next stop after a boat ride and bike ride along the Danube was the town of Weissenkirchen, an old and highly authentic Austrian town along the Danube where grapes and apricots are grown. This was the most scenic part of the tour. The bike path along the Danube is quite beautiful and you pass through vineyards and orchards. The day includes a small boat/ferry to cross the Danube. The accommodations were very fine in Weissenkirchen, but no A/C.
The trip finishes in Vienna. What a splendid and beautiful city. Our single day there hardly allowed us to explore the city in any depth, but what we did see was memorable and rewarding.
So, in summary, the trip is very good, but more of a varied and wonderful cultural experience than a daily biking scenic splendor. Only advice— we did the trip in early September when the temperatures had cooled down, especially at night. There was air-conditioning in Prague and Vienna, but I would say that had we done the trip during a heat wave or during the middle of the summer, the lack of air-conditioning at each of the hotels would have been an issue each night for us.
One more thing…our leaders were excellent and they made the numerous transfers on buses, boats and trains feel effortless for us. They did a super job!

Our bike trip consisted mostly of 20 women celebrating turning 60! Our trip leaders were excellent!! Both were very safety conscious, knowledgeable and fun!! Each city or town we visited was charming and our hotel accommodations were excellent! The beds were very comfortable after a day of riding bikes! The food was fabulous! Our trip began as 20 women, some knowing more than others and ended up as 20 biking sisters!! Great bonding experience! Ten days flew by! Very sad to say goodbye to our VBT bike leaders-felt like they were part of our family!!

More beauty than I could have imagined
Terrific itinerary and excellent guides who were challenged with extraordinary circumstances yet handled with professionalism and ease. We will definitely take another VBT vacation.

Outstanding Trip in Everyway!
This trip was outstanding. The country side was beautiful; the places and activities the VBT guides shared with us made the trip so memorable (i.e. lunch on a farm in the Czech Republic, picnic lunch prepared by our guides along the bike trail, and so much more); the biking and the food was outstanding throughout the trip; traveling down the Danube by boat was another outstanding feature of the trip; the pre and post trips where more than I expected….and the guides Jan and Jan were the best!!! Highly recommend this trip!!

Perfect mix of biking, culture and free time
This is my second VBT trip and both lived up to their expectations. What was great about this one, in my mind, is that it was a European vacation with biking in it. What that means is that it had the right amount of biking in it but the biking didn’t get in the way of being able to sightsee separately once at your destination.
One of the things I enjoyed most was that with the exception of the first and last night, all other hotels we stayed at for two nights each. This allowed you to unpack and relax a bit within your room at each hotel.
The hotels chosen by VBT were all charming and not too big. The destinations were all great. I particularly enjoyed Cesky Krimlov and Weissenkirchen in the Wachau Valley. The transfers from one locale to the other were all very well thought out and easy. Its wonderful to leave all the logistics to the leaders and to just be able to relax and enjoy and immerse oneself in the local culture.
As for the biking, the majority of the rides were on bike paths so you can get off the roads. The exception was part of the rides in Czech where the drivers are pretty aggressive (ie: fast!). They give Boston drivers a run for their money! That said, we are mostly on off the beaten path roads so it wasn’t stressful.
Our leaders, Tomas and Hannah were first rate. They complemented each other with their skill sets and personalities and each endeared themselves to our group. The send off dinner was in a wonderful wine cellar where we were able to toast one another and say our farewells to our leaders. The last day we headed off to Vienna. If you haven’t ever been to Vienna, I highly recommend extending for the extra couple of days as its a big city to try to see in one day. Vienna was built for relaxing with the coffee houses, wine and beer cellars and bars. Plus, the museums are truly world class. Its just too beautiful a city to try to see in one day.
I truly enjoyed this trip and am now anxious to find another one like it in one of VBT’s other destinations.
One last thing, if you are a serious cyclist, then this trip may not be up your cup of tea as you may feel there isn’t quite enough. However, if your spouse wants to join you on a trip where there is biking but isn’t a serious cycler, this is a wonderful trip where you can get some biking in but also feel like you’ve visited Europe with a great mix of biking, culture, food and relaxation.
Great trip all around.

This was our first trip with VBT and we could not have been more pleased.
All of our hotels were first rate. The towns of Cesky Krumlov, Passau and Weissenkirchen (where we stayed for 2 nights each) were picturesque. The bicycle routes were varied and scenic, with special treats along the way like the lunch prepared at a home in Plav, Czech Republic, and a lunch along the Inn River, prepared by our tour guide. While all our routes were memorable, we especially enjoyed biking through the vineyards and orchards in the Wachau Valley of Austria.
While writing this review, I am remembering so many other experiences we had that made this trip so special, like the boat ride on the Danube and our farewell dinner, but they are too numerous to mention all of them.
We regret not extending our trip in Prague and Vienna – it was not nearly enough time to see all they have to offer.
Last but not least, our guides, Jan and Jan, were exceptional – very hard-working, attentive, helpful and fun. They made the trip extra special.
One last note, if you are at all worried about biking, the electric-assist bikes are great. Just make sure you reserve one early enough.
