Croatia is one of the most beautiful countries I have ever had the pleasure of biking in. The pretrip to Dubrovnik was spectacular and biking on the Dalmatian Islands within site of the beautiful Adriatic on a daily basis was out of this world. I have recommended this trip to all the bikers I know.

Croatia-----the most beautiful country for biking
My most favorite trip to date with VBT
Croatia is one of the most beautiful countries I’ve been to. I liked the hotels, the food was terrific and the trip leaders were great. It was enjoyable and I would love to repeat the trip sometime in the future.

Little Extras Made All the Difference
The tour guides would go out of the way to make the trip special. One day, one of the guides found a family that made oil olive and the local liquor and he arrange for some of us to stop at their farm. They set up a little table inside the barn and had wine, cheese, olive oil and bread set up for us to taste. There were only 5 us and it was something I will never forget. Off the beaten path and clearly the people were so pleased to share with us this little treat. The whole tour was like that – special hidden away treats, as well as what was in the travel brochure. I was the slowest biker and it didn’t matter at all. I think I saw more than the others.
I can’t wait to take another trip. Too much work these days for a proper holiday.

One of the best trips I have ever been on, bicycle or otherwise.
Every day and every minute of this trip was great. Croatia is a stunningly beautiful country. 3 days in Dubrovnik include trips to the country, visiting the old city, and wonderful food. Split is a bigger city with a fantastic market and waterfront esplanade. Don’t miss the gelato! It is everywhere you go. We haven’t even starting biking on the islands yet! 3 days on each. Very cool resorts with wonderful rooms and dining. Even if you don’t like riding on hills, you will like the views so much that you’ll forget you were even climbing. Of course, the guides were fantastic and took us to meet local folks for dining and cooking lessons. Other highlights include a visit to a sculpture academy, where they still use the original techniques and hand tools. These memories are still strong in my mind after 3 years. I would definitely do it again, if given the chance.
Dalmation Islands in Croatia are beautiful.
The people are lovely and speak English well since it is taught in school. The water is emerald and so pristine. Great food and wine too! The biking was definitely moderate due to the hills and small roads. Our leaders were native Croatian and very knowledgeable and one even had us to his home.
Great way to experience the Dalmatian coast!
We met wonderful people who were very pleased to share their part of the world. Split was one of many unexpected treasures.
The trip leaders were awsome!
I am 71 and my wife is 69. This was our first VBT bike trip and my wife and I had an outstanding experience. We bike about fifteen to twenty miles three days a week on our hybrids here in Florida and weren’t sure what to expect in Croatia. While it was a bit more hilly that we were use to, we found the 25-35 miles per day comfortable and the trips leaders encouraging. We especially appreciated that on a couple of the very high hills, the leaders happily offered to take us to the top in the support van so that we could enjoy the long ride down.
The following year we took VBT’s bike tour to Puglia, Italy and had an equally enjoyable experience and never had to rely on the support van . The knowledge, training, and sensitivity of the four tour leaders that we have had the pleasure to know makes VBT the best value in the bike touring business.
We are looking forward to our third VBT bike to the Czech Republic in September.

No better way to tour Croatia
The tour was outstanding. Besides biking around the country, you have plenty of opportunity to walk historic sites and meet the people of Croatia. The Locals are some of the most interesting and pleasant folks you will meet in the greater EU area.

We did the add on in Dubrovnik and loved it. We stayed in the nicest hotel that we have EVER stayed in.
The biking on Hvar and Brac was challenging, not because of the mileage but because of the terrain. The guides were incredibly accomodating and willing to pick us up anytime/anywhere. Lodging was nice. The special touches that connected us with locals (like dinner in a local’s home) was really special.

A wonderful tour in a lovely country.
The islands that we biked through were spectacular! We had incredible views, challenging cycling and fantastic guides.
Kurly, Bedford, NH
Some tough, hilly riding - you'd better be in pretty good shape.
Dinner at a local resident’s house was a high point. The pre-trip to Dubrovnik is an absolute must! Mid-May is probably the latest time to bike here, as it gets hot early in the summer; earlier if possible. Of my 15 European tours, this one is in the top 5.

Everything was picture perfect on this tour
This tour had a spectacular backdrop with the Adriatic Sea everywhere you looked. Beginning in the seaside city of Split there was both history and charm walking around the shops and restaurants by the harbor.
Once the biking began the Dalmatian islands offered challenge along with the beauty that surrounded us on every ride. The local leaders love and knowledge of their country was a bonus especially when we visited one of the leaders grandfathers cottage by the sea. Having dinner at the homes of two families who lived on the islands brought the whole trip together and made the experience feel like we had family in Croatia.
Needless to say this was an A+ trip that we would not only recommend but do again and be sure to add the Durbrovnik extension.

I would go to Croatia again. The people of the county, the scenery, and the experience was spectacular! Blue water, history….

Another Great VBT Tour!
We have travelled with VBT in France, New Zealand and South Africa and have come to expect a great travel experience. Our Croatia trip was no exception. We met in Split, where we had time to tour the Roman city and the spent six wonderful days cycling in the Adriatic Islands. Food and accommodations were great, but as always the best part of the trip was our tour guides. They made this a truely memorable experience.
Emerson, Washington, DC, USA
In short, Croatia is a bit mysterious. Its location made it a cross-cultural destination with iIalian influence abutting eastern Europe. The people were friendly and safety was assured. History and natural beauty are among its best features.
JZBKeys, Islamorada, FL, USA
Great scenery and great tour guides
We really enjoyed this trip. It was a excellent way to see the backroads of the Croatian coast and islands. We really enjoyed the dinner with the local family.

Beautiful scenery and wonderful seafood
Around every corner the view was stupendous. While there were a few hills, termed “rolling” by our guides but maybe a bit more strenuous than that in our opinion, they were relatively gentle and we felt a great sense of accomplishment when we crested them.
Meals were often seafood with an Italian feel – very fresh and very delicious. The people are friendly and many speak great English – we enjoyed them. And our guides were excellent young men – resourceful, polite, and fun. All in all, it was my favourite – or maybe tied for my favourite – VBT trip.

The islands were beautiful
The Croatia tour was a great experience. The Dalmatian Islands were beautiful and fascinating. Dinner with the local family was particularly interesting. The tour guides were attentive and fun. Hvar was a particularly beautiful island. The accommodations there were fantastic. Brac was also fascinating. However, the accommodations there were stark. Drink the beer not the wine.

Wonderful people, food, culture, and scenery! Guides were fantastic.

My favorite so far!
Of 5 VBT tours this was my favorite–so far. The guides were great. The scenery was surprising and lovely. The accommodations and food were wonderful. And the biking was challenging enough for a “spokehead.”

Idyllic Dalmatian Islands Tour
The Dalmatian Islands tour is a must for the scenery, food, wine, friendly people, gorgeous scenery. Croatia’s tourism tag line the last couple of years has been “Croatia: the Mediterranean as it once was”, and it is so true. Stunning coastline; rocky slopes of lavender, olives, and sage; food and wine truly to die for; and no hoards of people! If you have some extra time it is well worth it to either do VBT’s pre or post trips, or strike out on your own. Trogir, closest to the Split airport, is charming, and Dubrovnik is stunning.
Liza59, Hereford, AZ 85615, USA
wonderful biking trip
Beautiful country, friendly people, hard biking. Guides very helpful. Would go again.
Dubrovnic alone made the trip worthwhile, but the gorgeous islands & boat experience put the icing on the cake.
JimW, Virginia, USA
Best riding, natural beauty, and viewing aspects plus great hotels and swimming
This trip involves some climbing but the climbs are well worth the effort. Once you are up, there are long stretches of superb Dalmatian Sea views as well as unique stone terraced valleys. The downhills are long and smooth on good safe roads. There are few cars on the islands where these rides occur. The pre trip extension is particularly valuable offering the the ancient walled harbor city of Dubrovnik and time for a day trip to the site of the apparition of Mary at Medugorje.
Jimm, Springfield, MA, USA
This tour was fantastic
This was our first biking tour and we didn’t know quite what to expect.
We loved every minute of it…The guides were great, the scenery was spectacular and it was just the right amount of guided activity and free time.
I would highly recommend this tour.
LisaW, Logan, UT
Overall this tour exceeded our expectations, the guides were beyond excellent, the islands and the villages were outstanding.
This was our third tour and had some expectations based on the other two. This tour far exceeded our expectations. First the guides were excellent and I am sure they went far beyound their duties to make the tour extremely interesting. They introduced us to the citizens, their culture and customs. We were introduced to their family life and foods. At the end of the trip we all felt that we were leaving some very good friends. Gerda and I enjoyed the islands so much that we looked at rentals for some future trip. When our group have met to discuss a future VBT trip the Croatia tour is always mentioned and we all wonder if the next trip will be as great as that one. The only criticism I have of the trip is the rating. Moderate it is not, this did limit the riding of some of the indivduals in our group. Say Hi to Garrot.

we liked it
one terrific tour. a wonderful cross section of bikers. the countryside was breathtaking. the food and wines exceeded our expectations. our leaders were informed, very cordial and accomodating. i would say some of the hills were just a little more than “moderate”.

An amazing discovery on the beautiful Adriatic.
A hidden corner of the Mediterranean with a lot to offer. Meet the people and explore the food. Lots for the history buff. Loved biking to amazing swimming spots.

The Trip of a Lifetime!
I wanted a mixture of adventure and relaxation, and I certainly got more of both than I’d ever imagined possible. Absolutely everything was perfect: the enthusiastic and caring guides, the friendly and welcoming hotels, the gorgeous island scenery, the delicious fresh food, and the many friends made along the way. This trip was an experience that I will never forget, and I fear I may never be able to top. I highly recommend this trip for single travelers.
UNBELIEVABLE !! Croatia is stunning with loads of natural beauty
My husband and I traveled with VBT to Croatia in the fall of 2011. Everything about the trip was terrific !! Croatia has so much to offer the bicyclist – challenging rides, excellent roads with little traffic, great guides, loads of history and gorgeous scenery. We have very fond memoiries of the trip .
Thank you VBT.

This tour was fantastic!
Of all the places I have had the opportunity to visit and cycle Croatia is right up there among the top two. The islands of Brac and Hvar are so beautiful you have to see them to believe how beautiful they are! The ancient history that you become a part of as you cycle through the hills and valleys is like nothing I have ever experienced. The villagers were friendly and the warm sun glittering on the Adriatic Sea made you want to stop and capture every site! Our guides were the geatest, accommodations outstanding and the cycling couldn’t be beat….lots of hills, but the view from the top of each climb made it easy to forget the effort it took to get there!! Don’t miss this one…..we went in Oct. and everyday was a pleasant sun drenched mid 70 degree day.

A wonderful tour of a beautiful country
I count my bike tour of the Dalmatian Islands as one of my best travel experiences. The flexibility of the bike route and the friendly and knowledgeable guides made for a great vacation. I also liked the accommodations and the visits/interactions with the locals. Croatia is a country with beautiful scenery, wonderful people and an interesting, albeit troubled, history. I can’t wait to go back!

Enjoyed the scenery and the ride
We really enjoyed our trip with the exception of the Art Hotel. We checked in to a room that was not cleaned, then they gave us a room with an extra bed at the foot of our bed that had been slept in.
The room was full of cigaret smoke. The next room was fine.
We asked for a restaurant nearby and were sent to cigaret bars with no food. The front desk people had no clue where to eat. It was Sunday and nothing was open. We tried the hotel restaurant and they would not serve us because a big bus of tourist from Germany
Had arrived and they wanted to accommodate those folks and not us. We had no place to eat, My husband ended up sick with no food. I now carry energy bars on my trips.

Most Amazing trip of my life!
This trip was challenging, beautiful, breathtaking and just eveything we had hoped it would be. We loved our guides as they really took the time to know us and support our various needs and incentivize us every step of the way. I will never forget this trip.

Wonderful memories, beautiful introduction to a new corner of the world
My husband and I took this trip in the fall. We had no expectations as we knew embarrassingly little about Croatia before we travelled there. The wonderful experiences we had in Croatia have just fuelled our desire to try other exotic locations that may not be on most people’s Top 5 Bucket List places to visit. Our guides, Marko and Neven, were extraordinary and truly helped bring the experience to life. Swimming by ourselves in an inlet of the Adriatic Sea was a real highlight as was biking past recently harvested fields of lavendar. We’ve travelled with two other active vacation companies and find VBT to be the best value.

Wonderful scenery, great cycling.
I felt riding along the coast was a bit like it must have been riding along the Italian and French riveras in the 1940’s and 50’s.
The villages were quaint with fishing boats, churches, shops etc.
I am Italian and enjoyed the food which was
a bit like Italian food. We enjoyed riding on the islands and eating dinner with a Croation family who were friendly and welcoming.

Croatia is gorgeous
Spectacular beauty! Friendly people. Great guides.

unusual landscape, challenging ride
The culture was not at all what I expected. I was delighted with the mix of southern and northern European cuisine. I never past a town or village where the people didn’t have a smile and a wave. The biking was very challenging some days and just enough others. Our tour leaders were always attentive, and made the journey an exceptional experience.

VBT ensured our trip was perfect.
Touring through the Dalmation Islands of Croatia was the best trip I have ever been on. Our guides ensured we experienced the heart of the islands and enjoyed every mile of cycling. Every recommendation they made was spot on. The amount and time of cycling was well balanced with time on our own. Each day was filled with quaint villages, impeccable lodging, spectacular views, genuine hospitality and comfortable rides. Each location we stayed was well researched. Good food, clean and quite rooms and conveniently located to explore the area on our own. My experience on this trip will keep me coming back to VBT, a great way to explore a country and their culture

This tour was everything I had hoped for and more!
The scenery on the Croatia tour was so beautiful! I felt that the whole trip was perfectly planned and orchestrated to created a fabulous experience for the whole group. Our trip leaders made our experience especially memorable and fun with their enthusiasm, knowledge, support, and sense of humor.

very enjoyable - not too sure abou the extensions, though.
Biking adn the staff were really excellent. Lodging what pretty good and food was also pretty good. The extensions were worth
while but maybe alittlelong in Dubrovnik (small town). How aobut
adding an extension day in ….(can’t remember name of the town – but its the gathering palce to start the ride).

Unique in every way
Our VBT Croatia ride was among the biggest and best surprises we have ever experienced. The islands of Hvar and Brac provided dazzling scenery, often of snow-capped mainland peaks, the turquoise Adriatic, quaint red-tiled village rooftops, and enchanting bays…all at the same time!
Food was excellent overall, and the home-prepared meals provided a very special taste treat along with a rich insight into typical Croatian living.
The riding provided an array of mountain top vistas, looking down into the sea, across to another peak, or, in the case of Pucisca, one of the most picturesque villages we have ever seen in years of travel. Pucisca, home of the White House’s limestone facade, houses a stonecutters’ school where master artisans are trained both academically and in their unique art.
Guides Matte and Vanya could not have been more helpful, knowledgable, or attentive to our needs. We even toured Matte’s ancestral harbor-side home complete with widow’s walk looking out to sea!
Our pre-trip to the World Heritage site of Dubrovnik added a stellar dimension to what proved to be a most pleasant, informative, and immersive trip to a relatiely little known part of the world. A true delight, and, as always with VBT, an exceptional value

By far the BEST VBT trip thus far!
Having travelled with VBT since 2006 I have had the opportunity to tour Italy twice, New Zealand, South Africa, France, Spain and more recently, Croatia. Whereas all my experiences with the VBT tours have been fantastic, my last trip to Croatia was the BEST thus far! The biking was not only scenic but challenging and there were many options even for those who did not wish to do the challenging routes. The country was beautiful with its 1000 islands. Best of all the guides were great! They were very dynamic, personable, passionate and extremely supportive. Every day was packed with many different activities and memorable surprises. There was always ongoing opportunities to do other nonbiking acitivities such as hike, tour, shop, swim, jog, explore. The home made meals were also delicious and personable! Would highly recommend visiting Croatia.

A jem on the Adriatic
Having never been to Eastern Europe, I can’t imagine a better place to start than the Dalmatian Coast and specifically the pretrip in Dubrovnik. Our tour guides were well versed on the city’s history, telling their stories of the recent war and Dubrovnik’s rebuilding to the beautiful city it is today. Cycling on the islands of Brac and Hvar was breathtaking! From the mountain views (and the challenging hills getting there!) to the seaside villages, every scene was more beautiful than the last. The townspeople were gracious and very friendly and our leaders made this trip the most enjoyable cycling trip my husband and I have taken. Thanks VBT for a great trip!

The tour is breath takingly beautiful with moderate hills.
The Dalmatian Islands will take your breath away with its beauty and charm. There are some hills but you are rewarded with magnificent views. Our guides were locals and charming and attentive. I especially enjoyed our home dinners with conversations of our host’s life experiences during the war. These people lived it. I enjoyed my rides more learning of the Croatian history. We had a special dinner “under the bell” that still warms my tummy. What a fun night. Our final picnic by the sea with transparent blue water will be a memory etched in my mind for years to come.

On an international trip a few years back, I asked my seatmate (from Zurich) where her family liked to travel. “Croatia, it’s like Europe was before all the crowds came,” was her reply. Having traveled through part of Istria on a previous trip to Slovenia and Austria, it was my dream to see the Dalmatian coast. Then at a college reunion, one of my friends mentioned his trip to Italy with VBT, and I asked him to refer me to VBT.
When the catalog came, I was instantly drawn to Croatia: The Dalmatian Islands. My first concern was whether the trip was manageable for both my wife and me. While I am an avid cyclist, she does not quite share my enthusiasm. After reading, calling VBT, consulting with my college friend, and reading Lonely Planet’s Slovenia and Croatia,“ one night last October I said to my wife “we can do this!” Any fears I may have had about our abilities, were almost instantly quelled with our introduction to our fellow travelers and our guides, Marko and Vanya.
This trip had all we wanted and hoped for and more. I especially enjoyed the rides. There was something here for everyone. If you wanted long uphill rides, you could have your fill. If you wanted long downhills with vistas of the Adriatic to your left and right, you had that. If, as on one day, the ride began with a 4 mile uphill ride and you wanted to start at, or near, the top, you could do that. And you could see our confidence increase each day. On the day of the long uphill start, I recall someone saying “Anna’s going to try it?” She did, and only when she passed the van waiting to let people out near the top, did she agree to get in, and ride the rest of the way. This turned out to be one of few regrets, as she had already ridden 98% of the climb and could have made it to the top!
Much of the success of the trip was due to our guides, Vanya and Marko. Taking turns, with one driving the support van and the other riding with us, they encouraged and advised us along the way as to the steepness of an incline or a favorite spot for gelato. On the one rainy afternoon when a few diehards (like me) resolved to ride up a steep hill in the rain, it was not long after the first cyclists arrived at the destination (Skrip), that the van arrived loaded with people for an unscheduled activity, the visiting of a local vineyard.
Beyond the rides, Marko and Vanya’s knowledge of Dalmatia and its people helped make this a perfect experience. Whether pointing us to a restaurant in the evening (never were we disappointed in their recommendations) or the “prettiest view on all of Hvar,” their pure joy and pride in their work was evident throughout. This being our first trip with VBT, we asked others how these guys matched up with other guides they had encountered. All indicated that these were “the best.”
The lodging and meals were first rate. Vanya’s picnic with locally foods was a highlight of the trip. “You can buy this at Trader Joe’s in the US,” he noted at one time. Both Marko and Vanya had traveled in the US. I will never forget the view we had from the balcony of our room in Hvar City. Or the one from the Hotel Pastura, or the view of of Zlatni Rat or… well you get the idea.
In short this trip exceeded our every expectation. As stated earlier, I had always wanted to visit the Dalmatian coast. You could drive the length of the coast if you wanted without booking a trip like this. I have the confidence to do that now, but you would not have the pure adventure and fun of learning about this part of Croatia as thoroughly and in such an adventurous manner as with VBT’s Croatia: The Dalmatian Islands.

I expected the trip to offer beautiful views, but I was still surprised by the stunning scenery of the Adriatic coast. I took this trip with my three sisters and we truly had the Time of Our Lives. The heat of the summer sun was only surpassed by the warmth of the people we met. Our guides were wonderful and provided insights about the culture, food, people and geography. I’ll never forget looking down from the heights of the mountain roads to the crystal clear, azure blue water meeting the blue sky. As usual, VBT showed me a great time!

Breathtaking Views,Fabulous Food, and Friendly People
I have heard that the best part of any vacation is the anticipation one has before going. This was definitely not true in the case of this vacation! This trip surpassed my expectations! It was my first time going on a bike trip, so I was a bit worried about it. No need! We were so well taken care of in all aspects! Take this trip to enjoy the beautiful land and culture of Croatia, Europe’s finest!

Great time was had by all
My husband and I went on this bike trip this last June(2012) and had an amazing time. The country of Croatia along the Adriatic Sea is just gorgeous and the beaches are rock beaches(bring water shoes), but the water is very refreshing and clear(no sharks on the Adriatic yeah!). The people of Croatia were very lovely too. It’s like Italy or Greece, but not nearly as crowded or well known. The trip goes to the two islands of Hvar and Brac. Very picturesque and not too many cars, so riding on the roads is really nice. Our guides were first class-patient, knowledgeable and very, very helpful(Milan and Vanya). They knew when to ask, so do you want a ride in the van up the 4 mile incline or do you want to ride your bike? It was unseasonably hot, but they made sure we were well cared for and hydrated. Moderate means pretty challenging in parts(surprise to me), but it was doable and a lot of fun. I was not a bike rider before, but I am now. the accommodations were very nice. We had an amazing view of the harbor in Hvar. People on the trip were great and easy to get along with. Loved the 2 dinners at the Croatian people’s houses.
All in all a great trip!

Outstanding guides and great ride planning.
Croatia was a great trip, very well organized and the guides were very knowledgeable. All of the planned activities were a great deal of fun and I learned a lot about the people and there culture. Overall a great trip and I cannot wait to do another one.

Croatia Blew Me Away
On the Puglia trip last year I fell in love with the Adriatic sea (highly recommend this trip). So it is quite unexpected to write in here how much more beautiful the Croatian Adriatic is than the Italian Coast. The Croatian people are friendly, hard-working, and proud of their country…rightfully so. The sea is a clear navy to aquamarine blue every bit as incredible as the waters in the Hawaiian Islands. The beaches are rocky and dramatic but flat enough to travel across on your way to that incredible sea (bring surf shoes). Ladders embedded in the rocks make it easy to slide in at the waters edge. Be prepared for some hills as you cycle past olives, almonds, limes, kiwis, pomegranates, vineyards, and lavendar fields surrounded by a lacework of stone walls; some built by the Greeks 2700 years ago. Remember, if the biking is too challenging you can peddle the flat bits by the sea then get in the van on the climbs. I found the climbs doable, just take your time. I also enjoyed the food…fresh grilled seafood and vegetables simply prepared. You can’t get the Croatian wines in the states so make sure to enjoy them while you are there; any local white or red is delicious. My local wine shop told me it is a supply and demand problem. The Croatian’s trade their wine to the Russians for petroleum! The Dubrovnik pre-trip is a must. Don’t miss out on a day trip to nearby Lokrum Island – the swimming there is fabulous. Go to Dubrovnik early in the morning. Then a bit later you can escape away to Lokrum..such a quiet place when the cruise ships spill their crowds into Dubrovnik. [VBT- I have some great photos to share but for some reason I couln’t upload them to your site; I was able to upload them to Picasa Web Albums with no problem.]

Not a day goes by that I don't think about the joyful time I had in Croatia, on my vacation in August 2012
This tour was excellent! The Dalmation Coast of Croatia is spectacular- it offers gorgeous vistas, succulent food, challenging rides. This tour was finely tuned for it’s appeal to moderate cyclists and that was one of the reasons I chose it. It didn’t disappoint. I feel that I got lucky, having met some fellow VBT’ers whom I’m sure have become long lasting friends. A must visit!

As always, the accommodations, the meals provided, the tours spectacular, and the guides, are wonderful. Love being able to go to new places and not worry about the particulars.

sun and sea, olive trees and vineyards
Ride through small stone villages, sample local cuisine, explore open air markets, swim in the warm, clear waters of the Adriatic, enjoy the camaraderie of fellow travelers but ride at your own pace, and experience the friendliness you’ll find along the way. This tour strikes a nice balance of riding with relaxing, as well as learning about the history, language and culture of Croatia. The bikes were good, the routes were scenic, the guides were exceptional. I’ve never had more fun.

The trip was everything we hoped for!
As recreational bikers and bike tour first timers, we picked this trip with an eye on daily views of the Mediterranean, ocean swimming weather, quaint harbor towns, and interesting local guides we heard VBT was known for. But worried whether we could handle the “moderate” level biking! The trip delivered spectacularly in every respect, including several necessary van rides up those more than “moderate” hills where we were sometimes joined by a few of the hard core types.
Bike tours – what a way to see the world. Can’t wait for our next VBT trip, somewhere in 2013!

I can't say enough good things about this trip!
Cycling in Croatia was the experience of a lifetime! The scenery was gorgeous, the cycling was challenging, but worth the effort, and the guides were knowledgeable and encouraging. The hotels were lovely, and the food was delicious. What else can I say? I’d go again in a minute! Croatia was unique in that it wasn’t crowded (except in the old city center of Dubrovnik), and not only were the people friendly, but they all seemed to speak English.

This was my 4th trip with VBT and was exactly what I have come to expect. Croatia was a superb trip with great scenery, great roads for biking and terrific guides!

Croatia and her people are wonderful.
I loved this trip for many reasons. The scenery is spectacular, the Croatian people are very proud of their country and it shows, the bike riding was challenging but doable with excellent van support, and the seaside villages are beautiful with wonderful swimming opportunities plus the roads were well off the beaten path. One of the most important things for me was meeting Croatians, visiting their homes, having a chance to eat excellent Croatian food and enjoying their company. VBT guides, Milan and Neven were really terrific at guest support, from resolving a hotel maintenance issue to anticipating my van support needs. You do need to be able to bike hills, it isn’t flat. But the guides are there to take you to the top of the steepest if you aren’t up for it. Croatia stole my heart.

Returning to this part of the world after 42 years was one of my dreams.
Having hitchhiked all over Europe and Northern Africa in 1970 the place I most dreamed of returning to was the former Ugoslavia. The area surrounding Dubrovnik left a lasting impression on me with the Adriatic Sea being the backdrop of many of my memories. On this trip, seeing Dubrovnik by kayaking around the island of Lokrum, swimming on lovely beaches, walking the wall and enjoying time in the old city was just the beginning of a truly special experience. Biking on the islands of Brac and Hvar gave me a new delight with fabulous views at the top of each mountain and around every turn. Each town was more lovely than the last with history an American can hardly imagine. The Adriac Sea is still a hypnotic clear blue so what your camera can’t capture your mind will hold forever. Sharing time with our VBT leaders and a wonderful group of people was another highlight.
For the post trip my friend and I were lucky enough to make our way by car up into the Plitvice Lakes National Park which was an experience not to be missed. Driving from Split was easy and the sights dramatic as we moved up into the mountains of green which at times felt much like Vermont. Croatia’s beauty is unforgettable.
Deborah, Groton, VT, USA
The bike tour of the Dalmatian islands in Croatia exceeded all my expectations.
I’ve always thought of myself as an independent traveller and didn’t think I would enjoy being part of an organized tour. The bike tour in the Croatian islands changed my mind completely. I thought VBT organization and in-country trip leaders were excellent. It was clear how much background research had gone into selecting routes and setting up special experiences. The hotels were fine, the food excellent and every day was a pleasure. I was very impressed by how the trip leaders made everyone comfortable, regardless of bike experience. I didn’t know any of the other 18 people on this trip beforehand, and came away feeling I had connected with a group of new friends who shared my interests and outlook.

This tour's natural beauty was enhanced by the historical information provided by the leaders
The initial 6 mile ride revealed the country’s natural beauty and charm. Pomegranite trees, lemon trees, lime trees, olive trees and grape vineyard with elderfly folks picking the grapes decorated the country side. One farmer walking down the road with a donkey and a goat reflected the slower pace of life.
The hospitality of the people was apparent when we went to their homes two different evenings for dinner–loved the octopus salad
The political and historical background of Croatia came alive through our two leaders who presented the pros and cons on Croatia becoming part of the European Union.
The cooling dip in the aquarmarine blue of the Adriatic Sea awaited us after the long serpentine climbs on the bike

It doesn't get any better!
I have continued to live this trip weeks afterwards. I was fed on many levels–great physical exercise, fabulous food, stimulating cultural exchanges, beauty at every turn and guides that were over the top, taking care of us and making every day a new, fun adventure.
I want everyone I love to go on this trip!
Fabulous bike trip to Croatia.
This was my first bike trip and also my first trip on my own and after reading VBT reviews I thought it would be a good fit. It was such a great experience. We had a very small group so you got to know everybody. The scenery was so beautiful and the rides exceptional. Great weather with lots of opportunity for swims in the sea.
The guides were very knowledgeable and a lot of fun. It was a great mix of group time as well as time to explore on your own. I made great friends and we plan to go on another trip next year!

Dalmatian Coast - a hidden treasure
What a delightful surprise! Who knew this part of the world would have so much to offer? The amazingly beautiful landscape, the crystal clear Adriatic, the rich history and culture, and the warm, welcoming people make southern Croatia a truly unique travel experience. We could really feel the soul and the spirit of this intriguing land as we biked through historic villages, dined with the locals, swam and shopped till we dropped and were treated like royalty by our two superb guides. Biking in the Dalmatian Islands was like being on a movie set for 10 days- simply unbelievable!
Great Rides, Cultural Immersion, and Great Guides!
This was our first VBT trip and it far exceeded all that I had heard from friends and our expectations on the beauty of the Country of Croatia. Our hotels and travel arrangements were first class. Our every need and want was taken care of by expert guides who enriched our trip with their knowledge of the history and culture of this very old country. We enjoyed interacting with the local people by visiting their homes and enjoying Croatian cuisine. Our rides allowed for novice as well as some challenging hills for those that wanted the extra push. We experienced very little traffic and some wonderful old villages. I suggest you experience Croatia for yourself on your next trip.

Croatia via VBT was the best trip ever for me, bar none!
Not only is Croatia on the Adriatic drop dead gorgeous but our accommodations were fabulous too.
And I cannot say enough about our two Awesome guides: Marko and Milan!!!! Without them the trip would have been good but they sent it into the stratosphere!!!
They were warm, engaging and just pushed me enough on my bike for me to get exercise and see the wonderful countryside.
Thanks so much, VBT, for giving me the trip of a lifetime and a great distraction after a rough summer at home!

Great trip! Do the pre-trip in Dubrovnik but skip the post trip in Split!
An outstanding combination of incredible scenery, great food, fantastic people, and phenomenal guides. You will have a GREAT time! Don’t miss the pre-trip in Dubrovnik. Skip the post trip in Split.Split is nothing special compared to the other things you will see and do and is not worth the extra cost. Dubrovnik on the other hand is a DO NOT MISS!!

Great trip, better than Italy.
The trip was great. The biking easy with great views in all directions. Do not forget a swim suit. Because you can jump in almost everyday.

Incredibly beautiful and rugged coastline
Croatia is a jewel of a country. It is one of the most beautiful and friendly countries I have visited. Many of the citizens speak English. Dubrovnik is a must see. I would go back and explore other islands. The trip leaders were very special people. Food was outstanding. Swimming in the Adriatic was pristine. I would recommend surf shoes. The hills were challenging. We stayed in very nice accommodations, especially in Dubrovnik, where the swimming was great. Trogir was not the highlight.

Amazing and Breathtaking!
The rides were beautiful and challenging – outstanding hotels, great views, well organized routes. We have been on a total of four trips with VBT – all are great – I would suggest Croatia for more challenging rides than some of the other tours.
Beautiful views and friendly people
I took this trip at the end of October and it was fabulous. The tourist season was basically over which was great because there weren’t crowds anywhere. The guides were amazing. Everywhere you looked you were surrounded by beauty. Everyone should experience the Dalmatian Islands.

Croatia is spectacular. The people caring & giving. The trip leaders were impressive–Vanja & Makj (sp). The pre-trip was fabulous. VBT organized everything flawlessly. I would like to thank Vanja & Marj for their quick & professional response to an accident I had that was not bike related (& totally my fault) They provided quick & personable service. They even followed up with extra attention & service beyond their responsibilities. I am very grateful to them! My husband & I have traveled many places & countries with VBT & our loyalty is justified. Diane

The best one yet!
This was our 6th VBT trip and the best one yet. The scenery was amazing. The biking was definitely moderate (several steep hills with switchbacks) although not quite as hard as the Tuscan Hill towns. Guides (Neven and Matej) were superb! Hotels were great. Perfect mix of biking and other excursions (swimming in the Adriatic Sea, ferry rides, boat ride to Hvar, etc.). When we told people that we were going to Croatia their reaction was either “Wow, I’ve heard it is beautiful” or “Why?”. After this trip I have become an ambassador of Croatia’s tagline “the Mediterranean the way it used to be”. Unspoiled coastlines, challenging biking, kind people, sunny weather and fresh delicious food.

Best vacation ever!
I will never take another vacation that is not a VBT vacation. I cannot say enough good things about our trip and our trip leaders Matej and Neven. So organized, polite, patient and helpful and so unbelievably knowledgeable about their country’s history. Planned events were perfectly orchestrated, and for the perfect amount of time we did have to ourselves, we were given a list of suggestions and recommendations. The riding was challenging at times, but we had plenty of stops for Gelato, swimming, and sightseeing so we had time to catch our breath. We had a great group of people from all over the country who were similar in ability, which was perfect and almost all did the full rides everyday. We did the pre-trip to Dubrovnik which I highly recommend and we did the post trip to Split which I recommend as well – do not miss Plitvice Lakes! Croatia is such a proud and beautiful country, rich in history and tradition yet so welcoming. The coastal areas and islands with their magnificent beaches and laid back attitude, make me want to come back again and again.

Breathtaking sights on a daily basis
Croatia appears to be the “hidden gem” of Europe. From beginning to end of our VBT tour, the scenery dazzled our group. We couldn’t even come up with adequate words to write on a postcard because the sights were more beautiful than any adjectives could do justice. I will never get tired of remembering the glitter and refreshing nature of the Adriatic Sea, or the narrow cobbled streets with pathways of stairs and laundry hanging on the line overhead. The daily cycling itineraries always provided enough challenge to make any given trek exciting and invigorating. But there was also just the right combination of flats and coastal roads to make you feel like you were living the envious easy life.
CarpeDiem, Santa Barbara, CA
Clear blue/green waters, refreshing after a challenging bike ride!
The risotto and seafood were delicious. Croatia offers a low humidity, Mediterranean seascape, and inviting culture.

One of the BEST!
The tour of Croatia and the Dalmatian Islands proved to be MUCH better than expected! The cycling routes seldom lacked a view of the spectacular Adriatic Sea.
The tour guides were beyond phenomenal. They were attentive to the needs of all 17 on our tour. Their vast knowledge of the history of the country helped everyone appreciate much more than just the scenery and cycling. Everything was pre-planned to perfection. When it seems easy, you know that a lot of work went into the planning. The guides devoted themselves 24/7 to meeting the needs of the entire group — all with different cycling abilities and all with different expectations for how they wanted to spend their time. They were the perfect combination of kind, attentive, funny, informative, helpful and caring. In addition, we made friends on the tour from across the country who will now be lifelong friends. We couldn’t have designed a more perfect vacation.
My concern now is, “How can another VBT tour top this?”

"I think I can" Where's the Van
I’m now 2 days back from a dream vacation. Had a tough time on the hills (mountains) 😉 but this was due to a bad leg.
Our guides Marco and Neven complimented each other so well I suggested they get married. 😉
Food / accommodations all 5 star. If I could afford it my new job would be taking vacations with VBT.. Don’t think twice about this trip write the check. As long as I’m able all my vacations will be with VBT.
far exceeded my expectations
Beautiful countryside and breathtaking views make this trip outstanding. The biking was challenging but well worth the effort.

Beautiful country and great biking!
We had a wonderful time in Croatia. The biking was wonderful, safe and very picturesque! The guides were so helpful and generous with their time and knowledge.

After I came back from my trip, I realize my mountains turned into mole hills. This adventure gave this new rider the confidence and excitement to take on more challenges – next spring: a century ride!
Our guides Neven and Milan were like spending time with old friends. Thank you for so many amazing memories!

The trip leaders, Matej and Vanya, made all the difference.
A breathtakingly beautiful tour, well-planned by our leaders, who excelled in every way from true bikemen to gentlemen.

This was our most favorite tour out of 6 VBT tours
We loved this tour because it was quite challenging, and at the same time beautiful beyond expectations.
We love the Sea and were biking with the beautiful Adriatic Sea in site over 95% of the time. It was very nourishing to the soul.
Marion, Fairfield, IA, USA
The time of our lives!
This tour far exceeded our expectations. The guides were fantastic and were from Croatia so had great knowledge of the area and people. It was obvious how much they love their country and loved sharing it with us. The logistics were seamless, the food and lodgings were fabulous, and we all agreed it was the trip of a lifetime. I wish we could go back tomorrow.
Crankstine, San Francisco
Wonderful scenery, captivating villages, great food, excellent guides, and spectacular swimming. You should be in quite good physical shape to bike all of the hills but, with the support wagon to take you up the steepest hills (9-10% grade), it is not essential in order to fully enjoy this trip.

A trip of a lifetime!
My best friend, Diana, insisted that we book a trip through Vermont Bike Tours as she and her husband had enjoyed past trips with this company. I was skeptical as I have always thought tour groups were too restrictive and I dreaded spending time with strangers. Well, this trip to Croatia proved me wrong…it was a trip of a lifetime.
The Dalmatian Islands were stunningly gorgeous, our hotels clean and comfortable, the food delicious, the biking amazing and challenging, and our guides, Neven and Marko, outstanding. Everyday was just perfect. I loved riding at my own pace with encouragement from our guides and the others biking with this group. It was so much fun to enjoy lunch or dinner with new friends or a beer after a long ride. Neven and Marko, native to Croatia, were so knowledgeable, accommodating, funny, encouraging, helpful and “easy on the eyes.” I so enjoyed learning about a country through the two of them. They always answered my questions about the culture and even shared interesting facts and experiences of their own. Biking and traveling with natives, gave me a good understanding of Croatia and the culture.
The trip was fantastic and I would highly recommend this trip to Croatia…I look forward to booking future trips through VBT.
AnnMarie, Harrisonburg, VA, USA
Pedaling through pine and rosemary scented breezes past ancient walls, pausing to plunge into the turquoise Adriatic, eating roasted meats by candlelight as evening merges with the hills, laughing in good company with fellow rider and guides. What’s not to love?

I would do this trip again!
Spectacular trip! Excellent trip leaders lent so much to the whole experience (thanks, Marko & Lada)! Wonderful travel group! Superb food (be sure to try the octopus, Peka-style), wine, brandy! The extra adventures added immensely to the trip! Oh, and the bicycling was very gratifying with hills (up AND down!) and great routes! Accommodations were excellent – wish we had more time in each place! We highly recommend the pre-trip to Dubrovnik, but next time would skip the disappointing post-trip in Split. One day would have been enough. Overall, we would do this trip again without hesitation! Will not disappoint.

This tour was good for heavy duty bikers
The leaders were great. I would have liked more of the cultural sites and attractions scheduled into the tour stops. Most of the tour was biking with no added local tours as in the past VBT trips we have taken.
The trip was rated mild to moderate. Relative to past tours we have taken with VBT this should have been rated moderate to difficult.
Response from: Product Team
Thank you for your feedback. Just to clarify, this trip is rated “Moderate”, not “mild to moderate” which means “Terrain includes more hills. Longer distance options can be very rewarding for those who cycle regularly.” This vacation includes home hosted meals, a visit to a stonecutters school in Brac and a cooking class in Hvar and the rating for “Discovery” by our guests is 71.34% “excellent” in 2013.

Beautiful country, awesome guides- loved it and would do it again
VBT did it again! 18 women joined together to bike in Croatia with two outstanding guides, Lada and Neven. We loved the hills and challenges and looked forward to our daily dip in the Adriatic sea. During our after trip, we rented a driver to take us to the National park where we saw beautiful terrain and lots of waterfalls. We then rented a sailboat complete with a woman skipper and sailed and swam and had food and wine and watched the sunset. An amazing trip! Our flights were perfect which was improved from our trip the previous year to New Zealand. That was very important to us. A job well done
Beautiful Scenery and Friendly People
Breathtaking views everywhere you look, combined with fascinating old cities and towns and warm, friendly people. Cycling doesn’t get much better than this. Very little traffic on the roads. Great leaders who love their country and strive to share that love with their guests.
Marty, New Jersey
Excellent guides and itinerary
The topography of the Dalmatian Islands was amazing.
The daily itinerary was excellent.
Eat, laugh, ride, laugh, eat, ride, swim, laugh, ride, gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous. Wow. That sums up my trip to Croatia with a lively group in this stirring country of stones and rosemary, vineyards and sea.
This tour will be hard to beat!
Dubrovnik is truly the jewel of the Adriatic and the Dalmatian Islands a beautiful area to bike and take in the culture. Surrounded by the sea, the countryside is breathtaking and the routes through ports and villages are marvelous. You’ll smell the scent of pine as you bike roads virtually free of traffic, taste the finest olive oil and take in what the local konobas have to offer. Quality accommodations, delicious meals, friendly villagers and great company!
Matt, Sturgis, SD, USA
We’ve taken bike trips with other companies, but VBT beats them on value, on logistics and friendliness. Our guides, Lada and Marko combined knowledge of Croatia and biking expertise with warmth and humor. I felt like I’d met long-lost cousins who were intent on providing a fabulous holiday in their country. They encouraged us on the uphills, pointed out fascinating sites as we pedaled by, and were happy to take pictures of us enjoying the phenomenal scenery. (no need for selfies!) What exceeded expectations were the well planned (and low traffic) routes, the impeccable logistics, and bikes that had no flat tires all week!
We rode, we laughed, we ate well and slept at great hotels. The only negative was saying goodbye. At least I have lots and lots of photos. Thank you Lada and Marko….and VBT.
Ohio9, Cincinnati Ohio
Beautiful country. Lovely people. Good food. History like no other. Magical views. Visual vignettes everywhere. Great hotels. Exceptional tour guides. Cycling is either up or down. There are no flat roads on this trip! What more can I say? Best VBT trip to date.

Beautiful Croatia and it's People
First bicycle tour with VBT, we were very impressed with all the logistics, routes, accommodations and the guides! Lada and Matej were excellent, extremely knowledgable about their country and proud to share all the history. We learned so much about Croatia, there’s no better way to see a country then by bicycle and VBT did a fabulous job! We rented a Sail boat and sailed around The Dalmatian Islands for another week and Lada continued to assist us throughout our sailing trip. She helped with land transportation, arranged dinner at Roki’s on beautiful Vis, it seemed everyone knows and loves Lada! Thank you Lada and Matej we will never forget you and your amazing country. Now trying to figure out where VBT will take us next?!?!
Claireg, Keedysville, MD, USA
Water views abound
Some hills make this a “moderate” rating but it is worth the challenge. Directions are really easy to follow, making it a great pick for first-timers who are comfortable on a bike. The guides we had could not have been better. Cheerful, full of information, and a willlingness to go beyond what was expected. Probably the best overall trip of the six we have taken with VBT.

Croatia's Dalmatian Islands are hidden cycling jewels
If you want farm to table at night , quiet roads surrounded by the turquoise blue Adriatic waters with ancient Greek and Roman antiquities this is the trip for you.
The local cars are used to cyclists and are polite which is relaxing.
This trip has it all including a little sailing . Small villages and ports make wonderful walking at night after dinner and before bed time in sometimes quaint castles with the most modern necessities.
The guides never blinked at our strange requests and fulfilled them in a moment. Their attitude is “This is your trip and we are here to make it the best for you”
If you want to have a unique cycling experience go to the Dalmatian Islands with VBT

one of our favorite trips ever!
This is one of the best trips we’ve ever experienced. We knew very little about Croatia before our trip, and found it to be an amazing country, with so much fascinating history, incredible scenery and friendly people. It helped that most everyone speaks English, as the Croatian language is a bit challenging. The biking was outstanding, as was swimming in the crystal clear waters of the Adriatic sea, and the food excellent. Our trip leaders (Lada and Matej) were very knowledgeable about the locale and history, extremely helpful in every way, and went way beyond our expectations in making the trip for all of us a great experience. They even arranged a sailing option on the last day to get us back to the mainland, which added an adventure we hadn’t planned on. An additional pleasant aspect for us was the opportunity to hear many different varieties of excellent music, from jazz to traditional Croatian folk music to classical, performed by superb musicians in the most wonderful settings. We very much enjoyed getting to know our fellow travelers. We found them to be an adventurous group, and enjoyed sharing experiences with them and left having made many new friends. We also did the pre trip visit to Dubrovnik and the post trip to Split, and were happy we did. One month later we are still reveling in the experience, and consider this a trip of a lifetime for us.

Great trip; exceeded expectations; great biking, beautiful country
This was our first VBT trip and it didn’t disappoint. Great and challenging biking, with bike-level options, gorgeous country, at every turn; trip was very well-organized and super trip leaders. Our group of 7 from ages 17-58 loved this at al levels. The others in the group were quite friendly and everyone meshed well. The accommodations were nice, food and beer good and we enjoyed a number of dips in the sea, which surrounds you pretty much all of the time. Dubrovnik should NOT be missed, whether as pre-trip or on your own (the pre-trip package was good and the Dubrovnik hotel really great).
Barjwb, Catlett, VA 20119, USA
A wonderful overview of a country we probably would have not otherwise visited
From the first few days in Dubrovnik to the last in Split we completely enjoyed the VBT experience. The tour was perfectly structured allowing for cycling at various levels and time to enjoy friends and country. Our first VBT trip will not be our last.
Every moment of this trip was filled with delight and wonder. As we rode our bikes through the beautiful islands, winding our way through groves of olives trees, listening to the gentle bleats of grazing sheep, or pedaling along old Roman roads, we were privileged to experience the countryside as an uncommon tourist. The crystal waters of the Adriatic sea beckoned us at every turn. Our local guides made all the difference as they facilitated dinners at local homes and tours of businesses, allowing us to go below the surface of a typical tour. We fell in love with the Dalmatian Islands during this perfect vacation of bike riding, sight seeing, relaxing, exploring, dining, history, culture and more.

Croatia was Incredible
The Croatia tour lead by Lada and Marco was incredible, the best trip of my life. The combination of biking through beautiful country sides, ocean coastline, incredible accommodations at hotels, exposure to Croatian culture lead by fantastic guides, and a great group of fellow cyclists made our trip amazing! I cannot provide enough praise for this trip! Wow, I am now planning my next trip with VBT, I am thoroughly impressed with this travel experience, no better way to be see a country and culture than on a bike..
thank you so much for a fantastic experience, highly recommend to others!

Fabulous trip and guides
Croatia should be seen now!!!! VBT was the best and our guides were as superior as the hotels and the crystal clear waters.
Great trip - start to finish!
This was my first bike tour and it was a great experience. I was a little nervous about traveling solo but it worked out perfectly. I signed up for a roommate and we were very compatible. Our trip consisted of 20 people; 8 couples and 4 singles and the group really meshed well – I always felt comfortable ‘hanging’ with the group even though I was traveling by myself. The tour guides (Lada and Nevin) were both fantastic – very knowledgeable, friendly, and helpful. Every aspect of the trip was taken care of – nothing to worry about. The scenery was amazing, the ‘side trips’ were perfect, the hotels were great. The biking was somewhat difficult – lots of
uphills and downhills. I would recommend being serious about training before the trip. The only thing that I think could have been better would be to include more meals. It is hard to budget for food in a foreign country. Overall, a great experience and I would highly recommend.

Croatia- The Surprise of Europe
We thought it would be outstanding, but words could not describe how wonderful this tour was. From the beautiful sights, to the food, the wine, the cycling and most of all our hosts Milan and Vanja made this a trip that we will never forget. Everyday was more spectacular than the day before. We honestly can’t wait to go back again.

Beautiful, wonderful tour guides and great people
Our tour guides were excellent. Such a positive wonderful first tour trip for me. Beautiful scenery and accommodations.
Great riding, fantastic culture
As is well known, Croatia is beautiful, but who knew there was such great road riding? We had strong riders in our group, who handled the climbs and downhills with ease. Well suited for those with some miles in the saddle. The guides were excellent and the people in the villages we visited were great. Food is locally sources and made with immense pride. Can’t wait to return.
The best VBT trip we've taken to date.
We have wanted to take this vacation for several years, but every time we tried to book, it was filled. We got the first week of the season and it was fabulous. The location, the routes, the trip leaders were all great. It was a group of 16 people, and we would travel with each of them again. Everyone had so much fun!

A Mediterranean nugget
This was my first VBT trip and it couldn’t have been more perfect. If you’re looking for small charming villages and sun-drenched hillsides and coast to bike, the Dalmatian Islands can’t be matched. The food and wines are wonderful as are the people. One of my best vacations ever!

Croatia The Dalmation Island
My trip was fantastic and I will travel with VBT again. I loved cycling through the beautiful countryside. Even the hills didn’t bother me. Just another opportunity to see things at a slower pace and also anticipate the exhilaration of the upcoming downhill. I feel sorry for those on buses or tour boats. They missed a personal experience and the small villages and special places we visited. Our group of 12 shared many good times and lots of laughs. The tour leaders Lada and Mario were wonderful leaders and I enjoyed their company and the effortless way they made everything work for us.

Croatia is my new favorite destination, and VBT my favorite way to enjoy it. For fans of fresh octopus, this is heaven. I expected history, cultural charm, friendly locals, postcard scenery, and a good group. Didn’t expect to enjoy evenings on plazas overlooking yachts, with the beautiful people who come with the yachts. It’s a country of Maria Sharapova’s and Novak Djokovics (physically speaking) plus good local red wines, good cheeses, great breads, and fresh everything.

Dalmatia - A View Around Every Corner
Croatia was at the top of my VBT wish list and it didn’t disappoint. Challenging routes with the reward of scenic seaside villages, clear azure water and hilltop vistas. Experienced guides, who knew everyone. Vanya and Neven (plus two trainees) were proud to share their locals knowledge and connections. Locally sourced fish, lamb, wine, olive oil, veggies and herbs were an unexpected treat. We had some amazing meals and enjoyed several glasses of homemade Rajika with generous local hosts. One disappointment, our trip was early May and although perfect riding weather, it was too early to see blooming lavender. Great trip & wonderful memories and photos.

Great ride, beautiful scenery!
We took this trip based on rave reviews from other bikers on our last trip in France and failed to look at the rating of Moderate for the cycling. I was initially surprised at the hilly nature of the ride but, I was blown away by all of the scenery so riding the hills became secondary to the views. The hotels were fine but the private ferry ride to Hvar was choppy and unfortunately, I got sick. The guide was helpful and even let me steer the boat so I wouldn’t think about the motion but alas, to no avail.
Our guides were great, very funny and full of stories as well as cute “Croatian-English” terms. Everyone was extra nice and inclusive so no one felt left out. I am ready to do another trip!

Croatia during Lavender Harvest
Throughly enjoyed our Croatian Tour of Split/Brac/Hvar. Very warm in June with full sun 90% of the time during our Trip. Some impressive down-hill rides followed by challenging uphills. Water Temp was great for swimming. Great seafood, cheeses, lamb, and beer

Fun in the Sun
This was our second VBT vacation so we had very high expectations because our first one to the Tuscan Coast was fabulous. This one did not disappoint. Fantastic scenery, great guides, excellent routes and wonderful people in our group. The one thing to mention is you will be challenged on this ride. Plenty of hills but well worth the work! The Croatian people were very friendly. Živjeli ! !

Great routes with hill climbing challenges
I am an avid cyclist and appreciated the hill climbing options that were made available if one wanted to participate in it. Shorter options were available for those who chose not to to engage in this challenging activity so everyone was happy.

Great trip leaders and beautiful scenery
This was our first trip with VBT and we could not be happier with the experience. Our trip leaders were outstanding – personable, knowledgeable, flexible and very competent. The biking routes were well planned – demanding but not too much so. Every long hill climb presented another beautiful panoramic view. Plenty of opportunity to swim in the clear Adriatic water. Fun activities and enjoyable meals in addition to the cycling. Finally, we certainly enjoyed our fellow bikers — all able, active, interesting people.

Wonderful VBT cycling trip to Croatia
Had heard from various friends that Croatia was great, but didn’t really know what to expect. The trip exceeded our expectations. The sights were great, the rides breathtaking and, for the most part (Dubrovnik, Split, Hvar and Brac), the accommodations were excellent. The food was also a pleasant surprise — very good (though I don’t think anyplace can beat Italy for food) and relatively inexpensive by US standards. The gorgeous beaches and plentiful opportunities to swim were a delight. Perhaps the best part were the guides, Neven and Mario, both from Hvar. Their enthusiasm for their home turf and eagerness to please was infectious and added greatly to the overall experience.

Charming towns, exceptional views!
I looked forward to this trip for 8 months…and once again VBT did not fail me (4th trip). I appreciate the patience, knowledge, humor and smiles of both leaders: Natasha and Lada. Next trip, I will ask for information about the group. Although this group was delightful, the energy level of the group exceeded mine…perhaps because they were 20 years younger??? In addition, the majority of the group knew one another which has a tendency to change the dynamic. My roomie was a delight and we both appreciated the more “private” accommodation setups in all the hotels.

Best trip so far. The mountain views take your breath away. The ability to bike and stop by the water for a swim in crystal clear water was really unbelievable. The food was always fresh and the home dinners very special. Our two guides (Vanya and Deven) were special people. Overall an outstanding trip. We will be back.

Croatia Top to Bottom and Bottom to Top
Cycling the hills of Hvar and Brac off the beautiful Dalmation coast of Croatia was everything that was advertised and more. Idyllic scenery, great accommodations and excellent guides combined to make this a memorable experience. Our adventure started with a 3 day pre-trip stay in Dubrovnik at the beautiful Bellevue Hotel. The old town was spectacular and the trip via funicular to the top of the mountain overlooking the city, at sunset, was wonderful, but be prepared for line-ups. We then met the rest of our group and our guides, Lada and Nevan, for our transfer to Split/Trogir which was handled with typical VBT professionalism.
Our stay in the quiet port village of Postura was a great springboard for our cycling adventure and getting to know our group. Lada and Nevam did a great job getting our group fitted out with cycling gear, teaching us a some essential Croation and preparing us for the next 6 days. The accommodation was great and the village atmosphere contributed to our sense of connectivity with the group and the locals. We were especially impressed with the VBT organized dinner program which saw us dine with the group all three nights; inside an ancient water cistern, at the re-purposed home of a former noble family in Dol, and with a local family in their home. Great food, great company and a great experience. And the biking; challenging, rewarding and extremely well organized and supported. Seeing Brac from “top to bottom” and “bottom to top” on a cycle was breathtaking and our VBT hosts ensured our safety and comfort.
Though our planned transfer to Hvar via high speed boat was cancelled because of high winds, plan “B” was implemented without a hitch and we arrived in beautiful Hvar. Staying at the historic Park Hotel in the center of the town was a treat and we explored the fortress and old town extensively. Once again, the biking was marvelous. Challenging climbs, exhilarating downhills, beautiful beaches and out-of-this-world-views were the norm. Though the terrain and participant skill levels made for some significant logistical challenges for our leaders, we all enjoyed a safe and well supported cycling experience that I would rate as “excellent”. Off the road, we felt that the delicate balance between group time and personal time was very well managed. The group dinner/cooking demonstration at the home of a local chef was terrific and the final dinner on the Park Hotel terrace was a perfect wind-up to a fabulous week.
Touring the countryside on bicycle made the entire experience highly tangible and personal for us, and we were taken by the whole experience. Our group was very good and we were especially impressed with our guides Lada and Neven (they should really be called hosts) who ensured that we were safe, informed and engaged with the many gifts that Croatia had to offer. They were truly outstanding.
Our advice; if you are capable on a bicycle (this truly is ‘moderate’ in intensity!), and want to experience a destination that is unspoiled, historic and engaging, go to coastal Croatia, and, If you want to make it special, go with VBT.

Croatia is amazing
This was our 4th biking tour and first with VBT. It was our favorite by far. The leaders gave us wonderful first hand insight into the culture, people and food of Croatia. They made everyone feel welcome no matter of their bike riding ability. They even went the extra step to switch out our bikes from hybrid, which could be better, to road bikes which worked great. The other guests were wonderful to travel with. Lots of laughs, some challenging riding and a good time for all.

My husband and I love to bike in new and interesting places and the VBT Croatian trip was a wonderful experience. Great biking locations, great guides, great food.

CROATIA BIKE TRIP
Got great feedback from two friends who did VBT Belgium Bike and Barge, and New Zealand in the past year. Elected to join them on the Croatia trip and glad I did. Well organized, great staff, VBT took care of all the details from air arrangements to a well organized trip, and super, great accommodations, special meals, and some very nice and well equipped Fuji bikes (any on the road bike issues were resolved quickly on the road from the support van). Had zero complaints/disappointments though would have liked just a little more cycling than programmed. Will look toward another VBT trip to find extra cycling miles. In short, VBT and the staff had their act together and rate a Gold Star / Number 1.

One Great Biking Experience
This was a great biking trip, which was exactly as the rating suggests. Long uphills, but with a moderate grade, and equally long downhills once you get over the top. A great long challenging ride up to the medieval town of Scrip, again with a long downhill after the visit. Fun little seacoast towns, a visit to an Olive press plant, a visit to a stone cutting school, great snacks along the way, good food, at the hotels, restaurants, and home meals. But above all, the guides were terrific, and that made this trip so special. There were eleven riders, some knew each other, but all were good riders and all got along. There was lively discussions, and riders sorted out by strength of riding, but at the end of the day all got together for food and drink. A very good trip in a super neat country. Natasa and Mario our guides were/are fabulous.

Croatia is even better than I expected!
I had heard so many wonderful things about Croatia but cycling it with VBT was the perfect way to see the islands! As a single woman I was a bit concerned about being safe and I could not have asked for better guides and a more wonderful, beautiful, safe place to visit on this first trip with VBT. The locals are all very patient, friendly, and accommodating to cyclists and visitors. Almost 100% of the locals know at least basic English.

The Dalmation Islands was the most beautiful place I have visited. The biking was challenging (very hilly) but the tour leaders kept us motivated and our whole group had a fabulous experience. The accommodations were wonderful. All of our rooms had water views. The tour leaders were professional and extremely knowledgeable. The local food was very fresh and delicious. I highly recommend this trip.

Challenge and Charm
As a first-timer used to the relative flatness of rail trails, I found the bicycling on this trip a real challenge and pretty intimidating at first. However, after I learned how best to approach the hills, and how to pace myself, I really enjoyed it. The guides were very supportive as was the rest of the group. The islands are a real step back in time, scenery is fantastic, and the food was a treat. The cultural experiences were unique and intriguing.

Beautiful country, wonderful tour
I have just returned from a May tour to Croatia. Everything was top notch from the accommodations to the guides. The biking was honestly more difficult than a comparable tour listed at the same difficulty level, but the van support made riding to the top of the hills and then biking doable. A wonderful experience that I would encourage everyone to consider.
Pam050, Central Illinois
This is the 3rd VBT biking tour I’ve taken and it again exceeded all expectations. The beauty of the Dalmatians, the learning of culture and history, and the two fantastic and always accommodating guides made the trip excellent.
Paul B, Colorado, United States
Croatia’s islands are beautiful and friendly. The biking was on roads that are not busy. There were many hills, we rode up and down. Our guides were always helpful and offered rides to the top of steep long hills in the van. The food was fresh and delicious. The evenings with locals were especially good.
Croatia The Dalmatian Islands
We have just returned home from our trip to Croatia. We had a wonderful visit and bike tour. Our trip leaders were so responsive to everyone’s varied needs. This is a moderate bike tour and involved plenty of uphill and downhill rides. The trip leaders were always willing to offer opportunities to be shuttled up long inclines. The scenery, food, lodging and fellow bikers were just delightful. We also did the pre and post trips in Dubrovnik and Split and had a great time then as well. I highly recommend this trip

This was our first VBT trip and it was a truly fabulous experience. It’s all been said before – the country, the guides, the experiences were all first rate. My only caveat is that when they say “Moderate”, they really mean “really difficult unless you are a very experienced biker!” The hills never stopped. But even though I was in over my head, I’m very glad I went on the trip. The support van got me over some of the more difficult climbs. It was all very worth it! Just be sure you do adequate pre trip conditioning.

Great Balance of Biking and Culture
Our guides Neven and Vanja were outstanding. The one clear takeaway for me was that they love their country and were eager to share it with us. Our group gelled nicely together and it was a pleasure to meet other fellow bikers and make friendships. This was our first, but definitely not the last VBT trip.

Wonderful cycling, helpful guides, pretrip so so
Bicycling and swimming in Croatia was a wonderful experience . The guides were superb and flexible. The trip is strongly recommended.
What could be better? Pretrip to Dubrovnik is interesting, and about as crowded with fellow tourists as Times Square if one does not choose times carefully. An alternative that requires planning: consider what those who visited Croatian national parks have to say, that might be a better use of vacation time.
I knew that there would be wonderful experiences and services after going on two previous chips with VBT. But the amazing views in Croatia were absolutely stunning. We had a chance to swim as well as bike in this beautiful Adriatic coast
line country. The guides were incredibly knowledgeable and supportive.

Beautiful Tour in Croatia
I had a great time in Croatia. My photos could not capture the wonder and beauty of the place. The water at the beaches were so clear and clean. The food was great. Like the Italian food with alot of seafood but way cheaper. Our guides, Neven and Vanja, were great. I believe I went at the best time at the first tour of the season. It was the end of the shoulder season and the tourists were not out there in force. I could walk the streets of Dubrovnik and Split without being crowded out. We road on the roads of Brac and Hvar with little traffic and much less scary and too close tour buses. Yes, the water at the beaches was cold but swimmable if you remember to bring your water shoes and you could tolerate the cold. Moderate biking was no lie. The downhills are way longer than the uphills. I skipped the 10 percent grade uphills and chose to ride the van passed those. I enjoyed the trip and would recommend it for the same time of year as I went (early May) because I would think the roads on the islands where you bike (Brac and Hvar) would be filled with tourists cars and tour buses later on and that would make the uphills and downhills way too challenging for the recreational bicyclist.
I had no idea what to expect,we were told Croatia was the place to go! It is! Wonderful people ,excellent food, beautiful scenery.
Diedo, great falls mt
Fantastic and challenging vacation!
Just back from the my fifth (with my wife) VBT tour and can’t say enough good things about Croatia — with one caveat. The trip will be much more enjoyable if you are in good shape. Some tough hills and lots of braking on the downhills.
That being said, it was another stellar VBT holiday. The guides, once again, were fantastic. Mario and Natasha worked so hard to make sure everyone on the trip had a wonderful holiday and created interested options for those that wanted to cycle less. We actually had members of our group tearing up when it was time to say good-bye to our guides, which really says it all.
The Dubrovnik extension is a must do. Absolutely fabulous hotel and one of the most beautiful and interesting cities I have ever visited.
I’m already planning next year’s VBT trip…

Croatia Is the best
I signed up for my trip in January. Nervous, as I have never done a bike tour before, it did not matter. My Trip Leaders, Mario and Natasha, were/are awesome!! They were so well organized, always smiling, always taking care of the group. I can’t enough good things about them!
Croatia is such a beautiful place and touring it this way was fantastic.

All around good time.
From arrival to departure VBT kept us in great accommodations, assisted us with wonderful, knowledgeable guides, had all the transfers and travel arranged so that we didn’t miss a beat and even got to know the locals which was a real pleasure. The food and dining arrangements were super awesome. I can’t say enough about it. All their recommendations for dining when on our own were great too. The cycling was beautiful. It was a little intimidating in spots but that made it all the more fun savoring it afterwards. Terrific vacation!

This was my second VBT tour and it was amazing! Croatia was beautiful and the guides, Natasha and Mario were spectacular! Although biking at times was challenging, the scenery made it all worthwhile! It was so fun to meet and spend time with a great group of people. Already planning my next adventure!

Beautiful country, friendly people, delicious food
I loved Croatia and there’s no better way of experiencing it than cycling, in spite of the hills. Wherever you looked there was another beautiful view. Mario and Natasha were supportive, knowledgeable, and proud hosts of their country. They started as our guides and ended as our friends. My third trip with VBT and have met so many wonderful people within the group. I’ve made friendships that we now keep in touch and make future travel plans. Third VBT trip, far from last.

VBT bike trip through the Dalmatian Coast, Croatia
An amazing visit to the dalmatian coast of Croatia. Excellent biking, beautiful scenery, exemplary guides, fabulous food and wine. VBT planned each day perfectly, bike routes were clearly explained, and the guides were fantastic.
Dalmatian Islands bike trip
This was a fun trip with spectacular scenery on every ride! It was especially fun to be able to take swim breaks during the rides in the beautiful Adriatic! Best ever guides – Lada and Natasha – really knew the routes, the people, the restaurants, and the history! This was my first VBT trip and I can definitely see more in our future!
Loved the whole trip experience of the Dalmatian
This was our 4th VBT and each has been an incredible experience. This was a great combination of scenery (by the water, up hills, thru villages, thru vineyards, scenic country sides) and super nice people. Each day was different and the logistics of the trip was superbly attended to by the incredible tour guides. We loved the local family hosted dinner experience as it gave us a glimpse into how people live and work in the area without being overly intrusive on our part. Especially nice about this tour was the ability to dip in the sea almost daily – to refresh and get some swimming in as well.
Overall, a marvelous trip and superbly organized by VBT from beginning to end.

Fabulous trip! An amazingly beautiful country.. Our 2guides were terrific .. Highly recommended…
Best trip ever
My wife and I just got back from Croatia and are raving about the trip. First of all, the guides were terrific: very accommodating, knowledgeable, great personalities, etc. We did the pre-post trip extensions and all five hotels we stayed in were great. Better than expected. Our tour group of 18 all got along very well, which really enhanced the trip. This was our first VBT tour and we will definitely be doing more.

Dalmatia ... Very Special
Dalmatia … stunning, coupled with outstanding VBT guides, service and accommodations. I would highly recommend this trip but be prepared for climbs and descents, both on the bike and off.

Before we went to Croatia, we had no idea what was in store. Everything we saw and did far surpassed our expectations. The rides were challenging but fun. The guides were exceptional. The views were unbeatable. It was one of the best weeks of our lives. This is our 2nd VBT trip and we will do many more. We would recommend this to everyone!

Fantastic Trip All Around
It was wonderful to discover beautiful Croatia with two terrific guides and a great group of cyclists. The cycling was challenging but rewarding, and VBT provided the usual access to great locations, hotels, restaurants and local flavor.

I loved every minute of this trip. The scenery was spectacular. The guides very knowledgeable, friendly and entertaining. They always went the extra mile to make sure all the needs of our group were met. The additional opportunities beyond cycling added depth to the cultural experience. I have talked to other who have taken this tour and they always speak very highly of it.

First time biking experience
My father signed us up for this trip months ago and after just getting back last night (it hasn’t even been 24 hours yet), I am already looking up more VBT trips! This was the most amazing country and time of my life. The tour guides were absolutely phenomenal, the hotels and bike trips were perfectly planned. I couldn’t have asked for a better time.

Dalmatian Coast is exceptional
What a wonderful trip. The scenery is spectacular, quaint fishing villages are beautiful, plenty of hills to bike, swimming in the Adriatic, excellent food, excellent guides, excellent group of cyclists. This trip could not have been better. VBT does a great job of mixing in scenery, culture and local experiences to make this trip amazing. What a great way to see the Dalmatian Coast.

Croatia is well worth visiting
I have heard a lot about the Dalmatian Islands, finally visited with my daughter. What a great tour! I have visited many countries in Europe. The Dalmatian coast one of my favorites, not to many tourists in September, Adriatic sea is clear, clean and beautiful. Food and scenery are spectacular. Our group was amazing and you can not wish for better group leaders Mario and Nevin, they were great. Overall vacation was above our expectations. Can’t wait to book another trip, well done VBT! Thank you.

scenic and fun bike riding
The trip was rated as moderate which was accurate as there were some hilly rides, fun up and downhills. While the hotels during the riding portion were well located and had a living room space to spread out, I would have liked nicer hotels with more comfortable beds- newer mattresses, blackout curtains in the bedrooms and nicer views.
I thought the home meal was not as interesting or valuable to me as I would have liked – perhaps a bit better food in the home would have helped too.
I went on the pre and post trips and enjoyed this time on my own exploring the cities and countryside. I would recommend to people that they do the pre and post trips as they add to the overall experience of visiting and discovering another country,

All of what I had hoped for
The scenery and rural characteristics were what I had imagined, from clear blue ocean to small quaint towns and byways. We enjoyed the accommodations and routes. The local guides really added a flavor that can only be appreciated after the experience.

Croatia - you should go!
Croatia is a beautiful country – especially in Dalmatia. The limestone houses with their red tile roofs contrast with the unbelievable blue of the Adriatic sea. This tour had a nice mix of biking and cultural experiences. The hotel rooms were lovely and spacious (except for the touristy one in Split). The cycling was harder than I expected but doable if one was in shape. I did opt out of the 4 mile uphill climb. The best meal was the home cooking lesson on Hvar. Thank you, Ante.

We were delighted by how touristic friendly Croatia was. Beautiful cycling, friendly and accommodating hotel and restaurant staff, seafood super fresh from the crystal clear Aegean, and fabulous made to order cappuccino and espresso every where we went.

A perfect week
This was my first VBT cycling trip and it was fabulous. Beautiful scenery, delicious food, glorious weather and I can’t say enough about our guides. They were extraordinary and did whatever it took to makes everyone’s experience be the best it could possibly be. I will definitely be signing up for another tour.

Clear blue waters,great guides,beautiful islands
This recently war torn country it seems has transformed itself into a beautiful and welcoming country. VBT’s attention to immersing riders into the local traditions, customs and cuisine as well as an education about local government, family traditions and values is a great asset in itself.
The bike routes were varied with a wide range of options for more adventurous riders. Visits along the routes to the stone cutting school, the elderly couple and their small winery, stops at beachfronts along the Adriatic Sea with time for a casual swim in crystal clear waters was an enjoyable way to interrupt a daily ride. Leisurely visits to small port towns enjoying the easy pace of the locals, learning from our guide about the historical significance of these old harbors and of course the cafe’s and their coffee’s was fantastic.
This was only my second VBT trip but it seemed to me to have a little of everything. It had the hills,at times white knuckle descents, ferry and boat rides, rides through evergreen forests(the scents reminding me of my home in New England),olive groves, vineyards, small villages, high mountain top views and of course the beautiful port cities.
VBT thanks for the memories!

The Beautiful Dalmatians
This was my first VBT trip and it was great. It was the end of the season so we had the Dalmatian Islands with fewer people. The days were warm and sunny and it cooled down at night. The biking was the right challenge for me with different options for different levels. The views of olive orchards, grape vines, a wide variety of fruits and herbs and spectacular vistas from small hilltop villages, seaside ports and beaches kept us stopping to appreciate and take photos. We swam everyday possible in the colorful blues of the Adriatic. Our guides were a pleasure, totally helpful, very knowledgeable and such fun to be with. The variety of experiences from history to culture to food/drink was nonstop and it was a special treat to be able to spend time with so many Croatians.

Wonderful historical and cultural experience
As great as our two previous VBT trips were, this was even better. We were amazed and enchanted by the beauty of the coastline and its many wonderful harbors. Each one had a story to tell of its long history’
Our guides were fun, experienced and efficient and, given that they were from the area, were fonts of information. Our bicycles and equipment were outstanding – better than our own at home. Further, having an E-bike available for my wife made it thoroughly enjoyable for her without a lot of strain. Hotels and food couldn’t have been any better. It would have been a challenge to book comparable accommodations on our own.- extraordinary value..
The riding was challenging at times but always with terrific scenery. Gentle rides brought us through enchanting local harbors that we will remember forever.
I would highly recommend this trip to anyone – its value and charm were incomparable.

This tour was big fun! Gorgeous scenery, great guides, great food (and gelato), beautiful Adriatric Sea water.
Gene Jarstad, Seattle, WA, United States
This was my husband and my first VBT trip and our first biking vacation. We are hooked! VBT organized and executed a flawless experience for us, full of fun, learning, adventure, relaxation and total enjoyment. The leaders were both 5 star, each knowledgeable, supremely competent, worked 24/7 to make every minute of the trip perfect for each of the 18 participants and extremely nice people. Croatia, as a destination, has a fantastic mix of history, beauty, great fresh food and openly friendly locals. VBT took us behind the typical tourist venues to experience 2 Dalmatian islands (Hvar and Brac) and Split with a very intimate and thoughtful itinerary. We highly recommend VBT and this trip. Note: the terrain of this trip is not easy with lots of steep, windy ups and downs for biking. Gorgeous vistas as reward.

So much to experience
Great local guides that complimented other in skills and knowledge. Experienced great local food, wine, biking, swimming and learning about an area that I knew nothing about

This was our second VBT trip. I love VBT’s attention to immersing riders into the local cuisine, customs and traditions executing a trip of adventure, learning and relaxation. The bike routes were challenging (some long climbs and fast, fun descents) but always offered incredible scenery. We enjoyed the ferry, sailing from Hvar to Split, biking along the breathtaking coast, through forests and fields of lavender and olive groves. The coffee, wine and gelato in all the beautiful harbors and port cities are scrumptious! The trip allows a cooking lesson and spectacular meal in Hvar, a visit to a stone cutting school, and a home-cooked meal at a local’s house. Views of the crystal clear blue Adriatic Sea are amazing as well as the many swimming opportunities to cool down after a hot bike ride. We chose to do the pre-trip in Dubrovnik and thoroughly enjoyed the time to be on our own (celebrating our honeymoon!) There, we walked the old city walls, explored town, went sea kayaking, and visited the island of Lokrum. The hotel accommodations were great, and we take great pleasure in the fact that VBT plans everything for us. The fabulous VBT guides work diligently and efficiently to make sure everything runs smoothly for all guests. They provide daily route tips, historical information about Croatia, humor and superb customer service. We rode on brand new, excellent Fuji bikes, with a choice of road, comfort or E-bike. Thank you VBT for another absolutely amazing trip and wonderful memories. I highly recommend this trip to anyone. If you are not up for a challenging ride, try the E-bike so you can experience the same enjoyment without the strain.

great trip w/ fabulous guides and fellow cyclists
Neve and Lada were our guides, and were always pleasant and professional. They worked very well together and made us all comfortable at all times. My wife used an E-bike, as did 7 others on our tour, and it was a wise decision! The hills are many, and they are steep. Food and company was great, and seeing other countries from the seat of a bike is the best way to travel and learn! The home-hosted dinners were great, and the scenery was spectacular. We are already dreaming about where our next (6th) VBT trip will be!
Fireman Mike, New York
Just returned yesterday from Croatia. This was our first VBT tour and I’m sure it will not be our last. Our guides, Marko and Vanja were exceptional and we hated to leave them. They went above and beyond with recommendations for restaurants, things to see and do during the tour as well as the post tour extension in Split.
Amyandbill1, Fort Wayne, IN, United States
This was a wonderful trip in a beautiful country. Our two guides, Vanja and Marco, were simply amazing. They were knowledgeable and personable, so their conversations were both informative and entertaining. I especially appreciated that they reminded us that it was OUR vacation, and we should choose activities based on what WE wanted to do. VBT was great to work with, and they thought of every detail, which made all of the transitions go smoothly. We would definitely do another VBT bike trip!

Talking about next trip while still biking here!
Highly recommend this trip to anyone liking beautiful scenery, fresh simple food, exhilarating mountain rides, lavender fields, vineyards, olive groves…I could go on. Great company, wonderful guides, well organized and thoughtfully planned. Got the e-bike and removed all potential stress from the trip.

best trip yet
This was my third VBT trip and 4th overall. The trip with the other company was good but there was not as much attention to detail and it was more expensive than all the VBT trips. The scenery was spectacular, the guides were terrific and the logistics were flawless.

Wonderful experience of biking Dalmatian Islands o
Matje and Mario were our guides to their beautiful country. They had such pride and love for this area that it was contagious. My husband and I left feeling the same way. They took good care of us.
The GPS was such a stress free way to bike. “she” would alert us to upcoming sites of interest as well as turns in the road.
We would definitely use VBT again and in fact are already planning our next bike trip to Normandy.

Beautiful Villages & Water
Absolutely beautiful scenery with inviting crystal clear water in this neat and clean corner of Eastern Europe. The bakeries were full of tasty delights. including pizza, sandwiches and a variety of stuffed pastries. Hotels were great. Ride leaders great. Croatia is hilly.

Incredible Scenery Justifies Demanding Hills
VBT’s Croatia biking trip offered stunning scenery and wonderful cultural interchanges in the many small villages that we visited. This trip provides a lifetime of memories for those willing to meet the challenge of the rolling terrain of the Dalmatian islands. Loved this trip!

One of the best trips we've ever done!!!
We cannot recommend this trip highly enough. Croatia is stunning. We went the first week of September–perfect as the crowds had gone but it was still in high 70s. The biking usually ended with or included a swim in the crystal clear aqua Adriatic. Our leaders were outstanding–went way above and beyond– and our group was all incredibly nice people. Memories to last a lifetime–outstanding in every way!!

Beauty beyond belief!
Great rides with great guides! Stunning views from every hill and harbor town. The cultural activities and home dinners are great choices. Fresh and unique food everywhere along with cute shops, old walled cities with so much history.

This was my first VBT trip and I am already planning my next one. Croatia is the most enchanting, inviting, beautiful and gracious country. The people, history & culture are incredible. I am so grateful to have had the opportunity to ride through Brac & Hvar, experience amazing food, wine & scenery. Although the hills are a bit of a challenge, just opt for an E-bike and you will be all set for a fun ride every day!
The trip was well guided with very informative trip leaders that leave you wanting for nothing.
Well done VBT!!!!!!!

Amazing Journey to an Amazing Country
We planned this trip long ago with experienced VBT friends, and are so grateful that we did. It was our first trip with VBT. We were prepared for a great bicycling experience, but the additional cultural evenings out and personal ongoing attention of our amazing two guides was beyond our expectations. Now we know that VBT goes far beyond bicycling, as wonderful and thoughtfully planned and supported as the biking part is! We met great folks from 8 states and they were gracious, fun and supportive- we loved spending time with all of them as well as our two fun and capable VBT guides!
We will be thinking about our next trip and recommending VBT to others! Thank you so much!

Great ride,beautiful water.
We have been on 3 other VBT trips and when we compared trips with other VBT travelers, the Croatia trip was alway the gold standard. Fantastic hotel in Dubrovnik with a million dollar view and great food. My friends were better bikers but my wonderful E-bike let me keep up and enjoy the trip with them.

Best Vacation EVER!!!
I biked the Croatia trip – amazing scenery, amazing support from VBT, excellent hotels, the variation of bikes (e-bikes) leveled the playing field as far as the group’s ability. The group was fun and we made new friends! The interaction with locals and having a meal with families was a highlight of the trip. I plan on going on many more!

Beautiful country, wonderful cycling!
We chose Croatia for our second VBT trip based on previous reviews, and we weren’t disappointed. The scenery was lovely, and the cycling was challenging but well within my capabilities. Marko and Neven were great guides. The hotels in Dubrovnik and Hvar were lovely, and it was overall a great trip!
I thought I would mention my training for the cycling, in case someone is like me and unsure whether they can keep up without an e-bike. I am not a natural athlete, although normally I do some strength training, and a stairclimber a couple of days a week. For this trip I started training about 3 months before the trip. I rode three days a week, 15-25 miles, with two long (1 mile) hills in the ride. I was able to do all the “moderate” options and most of the long options, even with a cold, so I think this amount of training was plenty!

Croatian hidden gem
Since the Dalmatian area is a bit hard to island hop on your own, this is a great way to see a bunch of sights in an efficient manner.

Bicycling the Dalmation Islands
We were pleased that all arrangements were accomplished, i.e., no missed flights, ferries, etc. VBT did a great job in moving us to different locations, including those off the given bike trip, i.e., special time in Split and Dubrovnik. The hotels, other than the Bellevue in Dubrovnik, were not impressive as four-stars, although Park had a terrific breakfast buffet. I was especially pleased with the cycles available, and when one had a problem I was quickly switched to another by our very knowledgeable and capable trip leaders. The dinners hosted by locals on Brac and the Chef on Hvar were delightful highlights, and the foood was exceptional.

Wonderful country and great people
I bought the trip last January, and during the 9 months between the purchase and the trip, I had little time to prepare, athletically, for the long uphill rides, due to the failing health of my parents, for whom I am the primary caregiver. For those attending who were much better prepared for the rigors, the rides added to the great opportunities to immerse oneself in the culture and history of Dalmatia. For me, many were just too difficult to enjoy. I now know the VBT definition of “moderate” and will seek an “easy” ride for my next adventure

This is a spectacular trip on two beautiful islands. Our guides were excellent and adapted each days ride to the abilities of the riders. Some riders rode up all hills others started at the top. Fun, fun, fun.

My husband & I enjoyed our biking adventure in beautiful Croatia Challenging rides led to charming villages along the turquoise Adriatic. The trip leaders were great, always helping out when needed. The people of Croatia were very welcoming also, which added to an already wonderful place to visit.

Fabulous All Around Experience
VBT’s reputation for providing the best bike riding experience around is intact. The leaders were phenomenal and so helpful in explaining all things Croatia to us. Each day was something special and the riding was great. Accommodations were fabulous. Did I mention the leaders? Having leaders who are 100% familiar with the area you are riding in is one reason we enjoy VBT tours. You get a really good feel for the area, people, history, etc. from them. They also can help us learn some of the commonly used phrases in he native language.

Croatian Cycling Tour
We consider this trip to be one of the best we’ve ever had. Our guides were wonderful: helpful, fun, and well informed. They were eager to answer questions and went well beyond the call of duty, giving us tips on good places to eat, shop, explore and taking care of us in every way. We were challenged by the climbs, exhilarated by the views, and diving into the cerulean blue Adriatic made our days almost perfect. Learning about the food, in our cooking class, the art of stonecutting, and the history of Croatia made this an unforgettable experience. This is a must do adventure!

A country worth biking!
Once again, VBT hit the ball out of the park! Our eighth trip with VBT was our most challenging in terms of bike riding but so rewarding. The country, especially the water, is stunning. We worked hard biking up the many hills and were rewarded with amazing views and delicious food and drink. This is a must trip so start your training now!

On a VBT tour, one expects, bicycling, local cultural exposure, camaraderie, outstanding trip leaders, great food and an overall amazing experience. This vacation in Croatia was that and more. The cycling was challenging and fun with plenty of options. We had many opportunities for local cultural exposure that allowed us to really experience the wonderful Country and People. The food was outstanding, especially if you like seafood. The Adriatic Sea was absolutely beautiful. Our trip leaders were truly top notch; caring about us, sharing their knowledge and passion for Croatia. What a beautiful Country, People and Holiday.

Great landscapes and history!
A group of 10 friends did this trip to celebrate the birthdays of two in our group. Not all were strong bikers, but we all trained. We were highly successful and enjoyed a fantastic biking tour managed carefully by our VBT guides. The scenery was spectacular, the accommodations fantastic and the guides were very special people who demonstrated their passion for their homeland, Croatia, at every turn. They imparted on us a great deal of local and national history and culture in addition to the love of the gorgeous landscape through which we cycled every day. Each town we visited was more beautiful than the last. It was a trip that gives us very special memories. Our trip leaders were very special and they and our new friends in the group felt like family to us by the time we left. I would give the leaders 6 stars if I could!!!!!

Croatia: The Dalmation coast
As always the leaders were excellent and knowledgeable. The biking was beautiful. The new Ride with GPS app is amazing and everyone should download ahead of time. Makes it so much easier to know you are on track. Croatia is a gorgewousl country and and I must have said a hundred times that the water is so beautiful. Swimming in the Adriatic is a must do!

Stunningly beautiful Croatia!
Pleased with most aspects of the adventure. Will return.
Trip of a lifetime!
Loved biking through olive orchards, vineyards, friendly villages, dinners in local homes and off the beaten track. Outstanding guides!

Croatia, VBT and our guides far exceeded our expectations. The country was beautiful, friendly and clean. Most everyone speaks English there. The Adriatic Sea was incredible and we loved swimming it almost every day. Our local guides were exceptional, Marko and Natasa were fun, friendly, knowledgeable, helpful and professional in every way. The combined efforts made for an amazing trip for my family. We will definitely consider another trip with VBT.

Beyond my expectations
Imagined cycling with the Adriatic Sea, quaint red roofed villages, olive trees and small vineyards as your backdrop. Beautiful!
Experienced meals with local families, our guides had so many stories and information, I left knowing Croatia was a country I would revisit.

Unbelievable scenery, great biking, relaxing!
Croatia is a beautiful country, offers fabulous biking on very well kept roads and satisfied us with wonderful, local dishes and the freshest seafood! Our trip was a great balance of some local history, eating local dishes from people’s homes, soaking in the sun and putting our feet in the beautiful, refreshing waters of the Adriatic Sea. We loved being able to stay in our hotels for 3 nights at a time and having minimal trasnfers between biking adventures. We were not able to add on the pretrip to Dubrovnick (which our friends said was amazing) but we made the most of the post trip in Split – exploring the city and then taking in a National Park inland another day.

Best Cycling Yet
Because of the amount of climbing on Hvar and Brac, the views were absolutely amazing. Plus, unlike prior years, this trip is much more accessible because of the availability of e-bikes. One of our friends on the trip was a 78 year old! I had been told by my well-traveled son that Croatia was the most beautiful place he had ever been, and I’m inclined to agree.

A Must Do Destination!
I have been on several biking trip through Europe and they were beautiful. Croatia was magnificent!! I would highly recommend going on this trip. We biked on the Dalamatia Islands of Brac and Hvar. They were so beautiful. The country is very clean, the people were so kind and accommodating and we felt very safe. We didn’t have to lock our bikes in town!! The food and wine was local and it was excellent. First time we had two female guides – Natasha and Neve- they kicked it out of the park!! Best guides ever. Thanks VBT for an awesome experience. Next trip to Croatia will be to sail!

Our Favorite VBT Trip
This was our 7th trip with VBT and might be our favorite to date. The landscapes were beautiful, and the people were warm and friendly. At every turn, we encountered a crystal blue/green beach or a scenic town or a vineyard or olive trees. Amazing to be in a country with so much history. Neve and Natasa were amazing leaders and we felt like we came home with 20 new friends. We can’t wait to plan our next VBT trip.

We’ve told anyone who would listen about traveling on a bicycle. It’s such a great way to get to know a country. VBT does it right with their many ‘options’, great hotels, interesting & fun support staff. Croatia wowed us with its stunning views, food & historical perspective.

Another Great VBT Bike Tour
This is the third trip I have taken with VBT and it did not disappoint. The islands of Brac and Hvar offer wonderful scenery, food and wine. Our VBT guides, Nevin and Nevenka were attententive and knowledgeable. They went out of their way to make sure everything ran smoothly.
One of the best bike trips ever. The scenery was spectacular, guides were amazing, food and accommodations were also great. Would give this trip a 10+

Superb in Every way
The Croatia bike trip was simply outstanding. First and foremost, we could not have gotten better guides from Croatia to show us the islands of Hvar and Brac. The culture, the scenery, the comraderie could not have been better. Plus we learned how to ascend and descend rather large hills! Would absolutely do it again.
Amazing First VBT Trip!
Croatia is a beautiful country, and we were able to see so much of it on this trip! Every bike route took us through seaside villages, lavender fields, olive groves, or picturesque overlooks of mountains and the Adriatic. Some very hilly rides, and lots of fun downhill coasts. Every transfer was organized and easy, every meal together was delicious and enjoyable.

The islands of Brac and Hvar have stunning landscapes, fascinating history, and wonderful seafood. Each small village harbor had its own charm and unique story. Our local guides were fun and very knowledgeable. They made sure that we had the best possible experience.
We did the three-day pre-trip in Dubrovnik, a must-do, and thought the scenic coach ride to Trogir added to our total Croatia experience.

Beautiful Country; Beautiful Riding
Croatia is an absolute gem. The lightly traveled roads make for wonderful cycling. And each time you crest hill, your are rewarded with another beautiful setting, whether it be a view of the Adriatic or a charming town.

Croatia and the Dalmatian Islands
Incredible trip, beautiful countryside, warm and friendly people! The biking provided an excellent way to see and explore the little villages on the islands! I was definitely grateful for the electric bikes!
Our guides were exceptional! They were knowledgeable, had a great sense of humor and provided great support! They also helped to arrange some wonderful experiences on the post trip extension!

I have taken two VBT vacations. Tuscany By The Sea and Croatia. Both trips fantastic but Croatia is my favorite. Neve and Lada are excellent tour leaders. They both provide extensive knowledge of history and culture. In addition every detail to provide the best trip experience is their goal. We experienced the vacation of a lifetime. Highly recommended this tour.
How to train for this trip
I went with three other girlfriends on this wonderful bike tour. We are in our early to mid sixties. We were quite unsure about how hard to train, but successfully prepared for it by biking three or four times per week about three months prior to the trip. We began biking around 15 miles each time and slowly increased to rides of 25-30. By mid-July we added in some hills to our training. We were pleasantly surprised regarding how well we did on the trip and how much we enjoyed the biking, including the hills. Initially, two of us reserved e-bikes, but by the end of our training period we were confident enough to go with the hybrid bikes. The e-bikes are a great option for those who don’t want to train a lot ahead of time. We thoroughly enjoyed the GPS navigation with commentary. It gave us a lot of confidence as we rode and was fun and enjoyable to listen to. I would recommend bringing a blue tooth headset. Great trip from start to finish!

Exceeded all expectations
We loved the personal experience of eating in someone’s home with their family. Creations are warm and friendly. The experience of riding into small harbor town with turquoise sea was spectacular. Would rate this best trip ever

Great trip on Dalmatian islands
Our guides shared their love of Croatia w us, the host dinners were great, the rides were fantastic and the scenery stunning
Met and exceed our expectations.
Our experience on the bike trip exceeded our expectation of what we would encounter.
Not only was it run efficiently, but the experience with the Dinner Hosts was invaluable! There was a lot to learn from this experience that made the trip much more valuable to us.

Biking in islands of Croatia beautiful riding
We looked forward to this trip for a year and it did not disappoint. Scenery was awesome, tour guides were great and they did a wonderful job of immersing us in the the culture. Very good value

Best trip ever.
Scenery was beautiful. Towns that we visited were wonderful. The rides were challenging, but well worth it. The guides were great and the extra events that were arranged really added to the experience.

The Dalmation Islands
Best VBT trip so far. E-bikes were easy to work… still plenty of challenge yet could stay with the group up the hills!
Better than I had imagined
Two years ago we did the Puglia trip and thought it could not be topped….boy were we wrong. Croatia was simply fantastic!
The accommodations were top notch and perfectly located.Although the biking was more challenging than we expected, the ability to cool off in the Adriatic everyday made it worth while. The beauty of the country is truly spectacular. And our tour guides, Neve and Natasha, made sure that every day was filled with memories. They were so friendly and caring, we felt like our enjoyment was their only mission in the world.
We would do it again in a heartbeat!

Beautiful and challenging
This was my 4th VBT trip and perhaps the most challenging but also the most fun. No detail was missed. Guides, food, support and beauty of the Dalmatian Islands was beyond my expectations. Can’t wait to go on my next trip.

The Dalmatian islands
The scenery was amazing. The water is beautiful, clean, and so clear. The people were helpful and friendly. We felt very safe and welcome. Our guides, Lada and Jelana, were fantastic. The biking was somewhat hilly which provided great distant views. The Dbrovnic pre-trip was a great way to get to know the area at our own pace. There is a lot to do there. I could spend a few months in Croatia.

I would go back again, the water was so clear and inviting. Our group bonded well, thanks to our leaders, Natasa and Marko

Croatia Dalmation Islands are amazing!
With this trip serving as my first with VBT, the Croatia trip was magnificent! If you are looking for a trip that encompasses good riding (rolling hills or “rolling mountains”), great food, culture, good weather, like minded people, and amazing scenery this is your trip. Our guides Lana and Jelena were rock stars! This trip should be on everyone’s bucket list.

Great experience; great staff!
This was a fantastic trip taken at the perfect time of the year in September. We were able to ride, swim and dine in gorgeous settings every day. The chance to meet the locals in their homes for dinners and to hear of their lives in Croatia was priceless. We were very fortunate to have two excellent guides in Nevenka and Natasha; they were both so knowledgeable and accommodating, we couldn’t have asked for better leaders!

Great Views, Big Hills
We went to Croatia in late September, our 11th VBT trip. The mountains, the clear blue Adriatic, the beaches and the harbors we saw along the way make this one of the most scenic trips we have taken. This trip deserves it Moderate rating, but, as expected, the e-bikes handled all the hills. The weather was great for riding except the afternoon of the last day when a torrential rainstorm convinced everyone that the riding part of the vacation was over. The swimmers in our group had ample opportunity to put on their suits. Our two guides, Lada, who has had years of VBT experience, and Jelena, who was on her first tour, did an excellent job of taking care of all 22 riders and sharing their love of Croatia with us. We had two excellent home-cooked dinners, along with the usual very good restaurant meals featuring typical Croatian foods. Both the pre-trip, Dubrovnik, and the post-trip, Split are worthwhile. Lada arranged a post-trip tour to Krka National Park which was among the highlights of the trip. The cultural trips to the Olive Oil Museum and Stonecutters School gave us insights into Croatia’s past.

Brac and Hvar
The islands of Brac and Hvar are breathtakingly beautiful, figuratively and literally! Deep and long history, fresh locally harvested food, quaint harbors, friendly people, courteous drivers. Hilly and curvy roads with lovely views around each curve and over each hill. The guides were locals who could convey a good sense of life there. They were attentive, helpful and infinitely patient.

What a wonderful trip!!
Yes. The hills are challenging. The folks with e-bikes loved them, but the rest of us were able to manage the hills pretty well. The van is always there if you need to avoid the worst of the hills. It rained on us for two of the days, but that didn’t dampen spirits.
The evening for dinner at a local home was amazing. Our hosts were friendly and warm, and the meal was delicious.
The Adriatic is amazing. I’ve never seen such BLUE.
Everywhere we went, the people were very friendly.
As usual, the leaders were WONDERFUL. They were able to make small changes to the itinerary on the days when it rained — making sure that the biking was safe — but also giving us the opportunity to ride as much as possible.
I have been wanting to take this trip for several years, based on the online reviews, and discussions I’ve had with others who have taken it that I have met on previous bike trips. It lived up to the hype.
Beth W, Sterling, VA, United States
One of our most scenic VBT trips.
We went to Croatia in late September. This was our eleventh VBT trip. The weather was warm and sunny for the most part. We did get some heavy rain on our last day of riding so we didn’t ride that afternoon. Lada and Jelena were two of our favorite leaders to date. The scenery was outstanding as were the hills. We rode through several picturesque Croatia villages and saw some amazing sunsets. We really enjoyed our two days in Dubrovnik. We would recommend spending a day travelling from Split to either Krka or Plitvice National Parks.

Croatia is not flat!
This was our second VBT trip. Croatia is beautiful – the riding on the island afforded spectacular views from the mountains and the coast line. The meals and hotels were perfect for the setting – interacting with local businesses and families was special. We started our trip with the Dubrovnik extension which allowed us to learn more about the history of the region. We ended with a side trip to Sarajevo which reinforced our experience. Tougher riding than many VBT excursions but the e-bikes which a majority of our group used were a great equalizer. It was a great trip.
Jay the CPA biker, Huntingdon Valley, PA
We thoroughly enjoyed this VBT trip. The guides were superb; the rides were beautiful and challenging but very doable. We have been fortunate to have travel a lot, and I must say, the Dalmation Islands are right up there as one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever been. Beautiful country, kind people, and safe! See it before all the tourists start coming. We did think some of the included dinners were not at the same level as in previous VBT trips we have taken. This was surprising to us considering quality Croatian restaurants are a relative bargain (compared to the USA).
BobbiF, Lancaster, PA, USA
We are just returning from our week in Croatia.
We were a group of 18 friends who had the experience of our lifetime.
The trip included private dinners in aCroatian home, a cooking class at a small B&B, a lunch at a small private olive oil farm and a special dinner at a small Resturant all to ourselves.
Learning the culture & history from our excellent Croatian guides made every day a new experience.
This is the best way to discover a new country.

Great trip! Glad we reserved e-bikes!
Wowsa, what a wonderful adventure. We explored the Dalmatian Islands on beautiful scenic roads… and most importantly from the comfort of e-bikes, which made the “rolling hills” a little easier to ride. Our guides did an outstanding job from day one. Highly recommend this trip!

An Absolutely Amazing Trip!
This was a vacation of a lifetime! The cycling was so much fun and mixing in a swim in the Adriatic each day at lunch was AMAZING!
LSlau, Bend, OR, USA
I did not know what to expect when I signed up for the Croatia. Bike trip. I am so happy I went on this trip. The sights, history, and scenary were amazing. The use of an. E-bike and the GPS app contributed to making this trip one I will never forget!

Best vacation ever!
This was my first VBT biking vacation and I can’t wait to go on the next one! Croatia is so beautiful – breathtaking views as we biked through gorgeous coastal villages and harbors, wonderful food (octopus, sea bass, seafood risotto, tuna), swimming in the blue green crystal clear Adriatic, climbing atop fortresses for more outstanding views, dinner with local Croatian hosts and walking the narrow streets exploring local cafes, shops and restaurants. The trip was so well organized, fabulous accommodations and the local guides were amazing -I can’t stop raving about the trip to my family and friends- thank you VBT!

Bucket List Vacation
Croatia has always been a bucket list vacation for us. My husband loves to climb. I dread hills. Thanks to E-bikes, we were able to make this dream come true for both of us. This was our 13th trip with VBT, and one of the best. The April weather was lovely, the vistas were spectacular, and the lack of crowds made biking easy and enjoyable. Our guides, Vanja and Marko, were accommodating, fun, and eager to share the culture and history of the area with us. Meals in local homes were a real treat, and Ante’s tuna was the best we’ve ever eaten. The islands were delightful. Around very corner was a surprise: sheep being herded by a car, fields of poppies, or that amazing blue of the Adriatic, that simply took our breath away, time and time again. We’re sad this had to end, but always excited to plan our next VBT vacation.
