New 2017 Bicycling, Walking and Barge Vacations

Piedmont Biking (Moderate)—Spend a week cycling through scenic hilltop villages and verdant wine roads. We’ll learn about the grape production in both wine and grappa when we tour a local distillery. By night we’ll retire to amenity-filled agritrurismi and dine on the delicacies of the region that gave rise to the slow food movement.

Northern France Walk & Barge (Easy)—On the first VBT tour of its kind we’ll cruise and walk through a magnificent corner of northern France. Unpack only once and follow country trails into charming medieval villages and the gardens of glorious châteaux. We’ll also descend into cellars to sample the region’s famed Brie cheeses and bubbly.

Southern Ireland Biking (Easy/Moderate)—We set out from Cork for an active vacation filled with spectacular cycling along the pretty coastline around Dungarvan Bay and quiet country roads through quaint villages. We’ll visit historic sites like the famed Rock of Cashel, Holy Cross Abbey, and the castle at Cashir; as well as learn about local culture during a home-hosted visit.

Portugal Walking (Easy/Moderate)—Portugal is a land of welcoming people who have been open to foreign influencers throughout history. On this new walking vacation we’ll discover the hidden secrets of three of Portugal’s most beautiful regions: the Minho, the Douro River, and eastern Beiras.

Yellowstone & Grand Teton: Walking America’s First National Park (Easy/Moderate)—Walk your way through Wyoming’s natural treasures: Yellowstone and Grand Teton. We’ll amble along scenic lake loops, through open wilderness trails and past towering falls and geothermal wonders. By night we’ll relax in amenity-rich, in-park lodges.

Santa Fe & Taos: Walking New Mexico (Easy/Moderate)—Join VBT and explore the rugged beauty of New Mexico’s dramatic landscapes. Along the way we’ll visit Georgia O’Keeffe’s famed Ghost Ranch, Bandelier National Monument and a gorgeous park along the Rio Grande. Off the trail we’ll learn about Native American History, enjoy a cooking class and discover charming western towns like Taos and Santa Fe.

Walking Vermont: Green Mountain Valleys & Inns (Easy/Moderate)—Discover the bucolic valleys of the Green Mountains right in our backyard. We’ll walk along woodland trails, scenic ridgelines and the charming streets of the Mad River Valley and Middlebury. After each day on the trail, we’ll return to historic New England inns and dine on Vermont’s renowned farm-to-table cuisine.
