on a strip of land between the mountains and sea. Enjoy a stroll along the
alleyways—known as caruggi—by houses with frescoed facades and along the sea
promenade, or take the 7 minute funicular ride to the peak of Montallegro and take
in breathtaking views of the gulf. The city is also one of the gateways to Cinque
Terre National Park (southeast of Rapallo) and Portofino to the southwest,
which can both be reached from Rapallo via ferry or train with frequent rides
all year round. Travelers can go on beautiful panoramic walks in Rapallo,
Portofino and the abbey of San Fruttuoso, and in Cinque Terre National Park. Or
spend a day visiting the nearby harbor city of Genoa which can be easily
reached by train. Its main sights are the Old Town, the Porto Antico—home to the largest sea-life aquarium in Europe—and
the Galata Museo del Mare, the first Mediterranean maritime museum. Our local

From here you can also view the picturesque landmark of Rapallo, the Castle on the Sea, constructed in the 16th century to defend the city from frequent pirate invasions.

This morning you may want to explore the ancient medieval old town of Rapallo. This afternoon, take the cable car ride up to the Sanctuary of Montallegro. Climbing about 600 meters in altitude, enjoy breathtaking views of Rapallo and the bay. At the top, admire the architecture of the sanctuary, built in the 19th century. There are several walking trails that offer peaceful hikes along the top of the mountain.
