Weather & Climate
On this tour we experience a variety of areas and different climate zones.
The altitudes where we bike and stay range from 1250 meters in Cortina (1500
meters at Cimabanche pass) to 300 meters in Merano. While in Cortina we
experience typical Alpine cool air and unpredictably changing weather. In
Merano, located in a wide basin with a Mediterranean climate, it may be hotter.
Merano is shielded from the stormy winds of the north by the Texel Mountains and
open to the sunny weather to the south. In the Dolomites (Cortina and Brunico)
average daily temperature is about 20°C/ 68°F from May to October. At night the
average minimum temperature drops down to around 9°C/48°F. Showers are also
possible, especially in July, but the mountain weather is generally dry. Merano
and the valley are much warmer, with higher average daily temperatures and less
variance between day and nighttime. The following chart of average temperatures
in the Dolomites (based on Cortina) and Merano will help you to prepare for your
tour.
