VBT - The First and Still the Best!
VBT - The First and Still the Best!VBT - The First and Still the Best!

It was 1971 when a Middlebury college professor with a passion for cycling started a small company called Vermont Bicycle Touring, known today as VBT. His first tour, a weekend jaunt through Woodstock, Vermont, included six enthusiastic people and an old Porsche with a bike rack strapped to the back.

Thirty-eight years later much has changed but even more has stayed the same. We still have the same passion for cycling, travel and discovery. We’re still located in the original headquarters of VBT, an 18th-century dairy farm located in rural Vermont. What’s changed is the variety of vacations we offer — from one tour in southern Vermont to 28 tours around the world — and the creation of a dedicated, international staff of travel professionals all committed to making sure your VBT vacation is a dream come true.

In the fall of 2007, VBT was ranked as the “Best Bicycling Outfitter on Earth” in a survey of more than 200 adventure travel outfitters by National Geographic Adventure magazine. “This was a tremendous honor for us,” says Gregg Marston, president and owner of VBT. “We strive to live up to the standards of excellence and value that have been cornerstones of the company for the past thirty-eight years.”

Our Commitment to Corporate Responsibility

At VBT, we are committed to community and environmental responsibility. Beyond simply encouraging people to discover the world, and themselves, VBT is active in supporting local, national and global organizations that promote bike safety and the health benefits of cycling. We also take an active role supporting organizations battling some of the world’s most pressing medical issues, such as developing cures for cancer, cardiovascular disease, cystic fibrosis, multiple sclerosis and diabetes.

From introducing our guests to the Bicycle Empowerment Network in South Africa to visiting the locally run Angkhang Nature Resort in Thailand, we develop our tours in partnership with socially responsible organizations around the world. Here in Vermont, VBT employees are given time every month to volunteer at organizations in their community as well as to support local bicycling programs and coalitions. Please join us in shaking hands with the world.
